Hours, days, weeks, what was the difference anymore? She had been searching, wandering for only God knew how long, looking for a place of safety. Each time was harder than the last to hold for an extended period, and this was no different. The small scouting party consisting of three males and a solitary female had turned up nothing until now. But this, a warehouse in the middle of what used to be an industrial district, was the safest place they had found to date. Perhaps, if they could hold it long enough, it would become a permanent staple, something concrete- the first foothold to take back Earth.

                                                Their Earth.

A beacon was carried with the group, a small thing consisting of metal and wires that would send a homing signal to each of the Steel Soldiers- a group of highly trained and elite pilots that drove not spacecraft or aircraft of any kind, but a suit. Something directly linked to their person, fitted and changed to accommodate the wearer, linked not only to body but to mind as well. Inside one of these specialized suits was a woman, eyes peeled for danger as the beacon was activated, a single pillar of light shooting into the murky sky. It was only a matter of time now before the others arrived, and this place would remain safe until they did.

                                                Fear. Determination. Adrenaline.

Dark eyes were locked on a target in the distance, its hulking form scouring the ground beneath it for food, water, whatever it needed at that moment in time. Hundreds of tentacle-like legs sprouted from beneath a carapace dotted with glowing red orbs, picking through... Something. What it was could only be left to imagination, but honestly, the young woman didn't want to think about what it was, let alone imagine anything. Keeping to the task at hand, she moved her right arm to line up with the beast...

When something else caught her eye. A slight movement, barely enough to notice, but it was there. Or at least, it had been. The rose-colored mecha dropped her arm as quickly as she had raised it, ducking back behind cover to observe. A cat-like creature- no, creatures- were stalking the massive bug-like lifeform. Their movements were not unlike a normal cat's, but their bodies told a different story. Unnaturally thin, spines protruding from their necks and shoulders, elongated claws straight out of horror films... They were creatures to be avoided, things directly from nightmares, ones that could make an army-hardened soul cringe in fear at the mere mention.

                                                Slayers.

Quietly, the woman ducked down, opening a channel to contact her comrades. "Falcon to Sixth Squadron. A group of three, maybe four Slayers at 8-and-15, stalking a Tunnelbider maybe 60 meters away. No other Xenos in sight... No evidence of Lurkers or Devourers... Inform Guardian Angel of their presence, request munitions and medic to accompany incoming Soldiers. Have mechanic on-call for emergency repairs... And next time, don't send me out without my ******** partner!" She needn't say more, so the woman closed the comm channel, standing straight and turning towards the beacon. If the Slayers saw that thing, they'd damn well figure out something was up...

"Boys, we might have Slayers inbound before the rest of the Squad shows up. Be on your toes, if you see hide or hair of those ugly a** things, don't waste your breath, start shooting. We'll back you up. Understood? I'm not hauling you back dead. Kill them, or die." With a general grumbled acknowledgement, The Roseate Falcon set her eyes up towards the sky, searching for a sign of other Mechs. What she saw was same as ever- heavy clouds, threatening to rain their poisonous hold down on them... It was sickening, the way those damned things had polluted their Earth. Water was no longer safe to drink here, hell, the air itself was deadly. The Mech suits weren't just for combat- they were necessary for survival now.

Her attention was snapped upwards with the sound of a charging plasma beam- "Slayers!" Immediately, the woman jumped into action, her own plasma beam charging while she dashed forward, catching one of the cat-like things in her grip. The sickening sound its neck made as she twisted its head around was only surpassed by the satisfying thud it made when it hit the ground a moment later, tossed off the edge of the warehouse roof. Another had made the mistake of charging the woman- once the soft ping of her right arm's cannon had sounded, she blasted it. The Slayer screeched loudly before backing away, clawing at its own eyes, as if trying to peel the pain away as its flesh seared, burning away from its skull. The cries stopped as a heavy metal foot came down on its throat. It too was tossed off the edge of the roof, landing with a wet thud.

Opening the channel on her comm device once more, she yelled- "What the hell is taking so long?! We got Slayers here, we need help! Someone with an actual gun would be ni-" Static followed her message, cutting out whatever she had been trying to say.

The cat-like creature had jumped on her back, attacking from behind as they most often did. Her eyes scanned the perimeter a moment. Here, a mutilated Mech suit. There, a helm ripped from its place, still pouring a scarlet flow. None of her comrades had survived... Not a single one. Desperate, she looked up to the sky.

"Oh, thank God..." At those words, her vision blurred, and darkened.

                                                ****************************************************************************

Erika bolted upright, and immediately regretted the reaction as she clutched a hand to her stomach. She was back aboard the Guardian Angel, clothed in a pale blue set of patient's attire, lying in a rather uncomfortable cot. Her dark eyes darted around the room before coming to rest at what lay at her feet. A clipboard, scribbled with familiar writing. A report, from another Pilot? Scanning over it, her eyes widened.

"Two dead on retrieval, two injured... One critical, dead on arrival... One critical, stabilized... All Mech suits recovered, sent to Mechanic." So it was true. She had been the only one to survive the scouting mission... Her breath caught in her throat. Erika had been friends with those men, shared many stories and cigarettes together, spent more than a few late nights working on reports, covering each other's backs... Now they were gone. If she had been allowed to bring her partner- her real partner... They'd be alive...

One split second of indecision and they were gone. Erika's hands bunched up the sheets beneath her, angry tears hot on her face. A beeping sound echoed somewhere in the back of her mind, followed by a soft voice.

"Medic to Sick Bay. Patient Number Six-Zero-Four. Medic to Sick Bay. Patient Number Six-Zero-Four."

Tick-tock.. Tick-tock.. That infernal ticking emitting from the clock above the nurses' station was going to drive him off the wall. Tick-tock.. Tick-tock... The man's teeth were gritting together as his foot tapped impatiently against the linoleum flooring, the events prior still running through his mind.

"Bullshit I can't ********' go! Wha's the damn point of bein' the munitions expert if ya keep tryin' to ground me all the damn time?!" Gideon's own voice echoed loudly in his own head, his fist clenched up at the thought of the General's voice. His opposite hand rested atop his fist as he snarled underneath his breath.

"Because, there is simply no point in sending you, of all pilots, with the scouting squad. I want a Scouting party, not a fireworks display. Don't worry, Olson, you'll be on standby to launch when the area is secure. Understood? Good... Oh, and before you go, Olson. It would do you well to remember just who you are talking to when you decide to throw around curse words so haphazardly. Dismissed."
And with that, the General had walked off, sealing the command that he would wait to deploy, leaving Erika on Earth by herself.

Five years. For five years the two were inseparable on their deployments to Earth. It was an odd combination, sending the munitions expert with a scout. In truth, it probably was a stupid idea, but it was their stupid idea. They had made a promise, long ago during training, that they would always watch the other's back. For five damned years, Command knew better than to split those two up. Sure, s**t almost always hit the fan when Gideon was deployed to Earth, but the mission was always a guaranteed success. So what if a few old buildings were destroyed? They could rebuild! They could always rebuild whatever the hell an 'Efal Tower' was! It didn't matter as long as the job got done, and if you wanted a job done, you sent James and Olson! Not at separate times, but together.

Now he was here. In the waiting room of the clinic to make sure she was okay. All because the General thought he was too much of a liability. Tick-tock.. Tick-tock.. A scoff followed up with a snarl came from the blonde man as he stood from his chair, pointing at the clock. "Shut that DAMN thing off, 'for I toss it off the damned station!" The young nurse who sat behind the station simply stared at the man, taking his threat as if it were empty. "Oh ya think I'm ********' jokin'?! Either let me in to see 'er, or I'll shove the damned thing down yer ********' throat!" The man was stomping closer to the counter, rolling up his sleeves in frustration. It was then that one of the more 'experienced' nurses came to him and stated he could finally go see Erika. The look of rage remained visible on Gideon for a moment before he took a deep breath. "Aye, alright. Now tha's more ********' like it then, yeh?"

The man reached into his vest pocket and pulled forth a cigarette and lighter, lighting up swiftly. The first nurse was about to tell him the obvious 'you can't smoke in here', before she was silenced by the older Nurse. Gideon grinned his trademark grin as he looked from the 'veteran' to the newbie. "Ya gotta learn to fight yer battles better, lass.. Be lucky this one 'ere was quick enough to save ye from losin' yer ********' teeth, yeh?" And with that he made his way off to James' room, inhaling his cigarette slowly as he took several steps. Last he had heard she was stabilized after they had gotten her medical attention. He would believe it when he saw it though, not a moment sooner.

"Oi... Ya best be decent, Erika." His knuckles rapped against the door several times, waiting for half a second before he opened the door, walking in the room and looking down at her. [********' 'ell.. Ain't you a mess?" He grinned at the woman before pulling out the pack of smokes once again and flinging it into her lap, lighter soon following. "... Glad yer at least alive though.. How ya feelin'?"

Things within the dark office seemed quiet, a dark-haired woman leaning over a microscope as she peered down to examine several slides. Everything looked fine. How fortunate for the patient she had been assigned. The folder next to the medic read simply the last name of 'James', lazily placed there after she grew a lack of interest. No signs of infection. Fortunate, indeed. With a subtle growl, her hand reached up to rub her forehead as she stood upright, an irritated expression on her face. While it may have been a quiet place for others, there was no such thing as silence for her. ' What are you looking for...?~ Maybe we can help.... ' The woman's eyebrow twitched, her holding her forehead once more before shaking it off. She needed nothing and she would make that certain.

Hours earlier, the woman formerly known as the science lead's assistant was given the task of aiding the individuals who had been recovered from the last expedition, one of which who hadn't made it much longer after arriving on her table. No matter though; that body would still be of some use. The other however, she proved to show some surprising resilience, much to everyone's disbelief. Perhaps there was something to be said for will power. After all, it had helped her years ago. The treatment for the James woman had gone all according to plan and as a result, the medic took at least some marginal interest in her, if only for the sake of research. If she managed to show similar signs of infection, then she would know how to react. She was likely the only one who did to the extent that she did.

"Medic to Sick Bay. Patient Number Six-Zero-Four. Medic to Sick Bay. Patient Number Six-Zero-Four."

No matter. What had transpired earlier took little meaning. The raven-haired woman had to check up on her patient now. ' Clearly zhe woman ist fine... Why can't someone else just take care of her..? I have more important things to tend to.... ' With a minor headache setting in, irritated teal-hued eyes glanced over the medical file once more before heading out, carrying it in her arms with a displeased expression. Having it with her didn't really matter much but she figured it would at least make it look like she had even cared to take it into consideration during the other female's treatment. While making her way down the hall however, she had overheard the boisterous voice of the man who was reported to be the woman's partner of sorts, further causing annoyance. If there was anything considered confidential in the report, he wouldn't have been the type of man to just leave without a fight of some sort. Hopefully, it could be avoided.

"Hallo..? Ja, I am coming in now." The woman stepped through the door, giving a sideways glance as the blonde male tossed the woman a packet of cigarettes and a lighter. Did he not give a damn about his so-called partner? Quickly and without a word, the medic grabbed both and tossed them out of the room before turning to Erika with a stern expression. "So long as you both are near oxygen tanks, I dearly suggest refraining from smoking lest you desire third-degree burns und scarring yourselves beyond recognition." This woman with the faintest of German accents was none other than Hien Dragomir, or more commonly known as Alma, and clearly she didn't give a damn about anyone's reputation. What mattered was not making the situation worse than it already was.

"With zhat said, Ms. James... You've seemed to make a decent recovery. I see no point in holding you hostage. I'll leave you in the care of your partner who, I'm sure, can lead you out to where smoking is allowed. As for you..." Her cold eyes turned towards the male once more, her posture as formal as it could be. "Smoke in here again and I'll make certain to give you somezhing to be hospitalized for, ja? Now get out und help her with the debriefing. I am certain zhat there will be a psych evaluation to follow up soon." Turning her attention back towards Erika, Alma tossed the file that contained the details of her injuries as well as the report on her mission, before stepping out of the room to scold both nurses in an almost brutal, verbal manner. Just because someone might had have a certain reputation didn't mean s**t. Rules were rules.

What a wonderful day for science!

With a fresh day for most, the doctor's was still continuing. Sleep was for the weak and Docter Squal Aisamara was not weak. Oh no, he was a man of science! Science had took his weak, pity flesh and built him anew. Much like how the mechanics repaired to souped up the tools that he and his colleague create, science had made him something... greater.

Rolling through the corridors atop his office chair, Squal was reading over the growth reports towards their specimen. This project had been a special one in his eyes, one that was a pride of his genius. If this is going as well as I predict, the first units should be rolling out before the coming season change. His thought as he closed the file and careful drank his coffee. It was his seventh cup this evening, at this point he was running on caffeine more than his own normal energy. He hadn't ascended past his mortal body just yet.

Stepping (more like rolling) into the medical wing, he was great with salutes all around. He ignored this of course, not caring about his rank. He had a cigarette already in his lips, the tip lit and smoke trailing behind him. He perked up a bit as he heard her harsh tone, accents so brutal it would cause a soldier to cower. "Ah, is that my sweet Alma?," he said with glee before heading towards the source of the scolding. "It is, it is!"

He looked up at the young woman, his glasses flashing a bit, and smiled. "Now, now Alma, you know how the the mind expands. Rules are meant to be broken, shattered and dismantle so our imagination can grow into something wonder." He said in a singsong voice as he picked up the cigarettes and pocketed them. Nothing should be wasted, not even cigarettes.

"How is Erika doing? It would be a shame if we lost her before we lost her genes."

WE CAN CHASE THE DARK TOGETHER

Erika's attention was abruptly brought from her own thoughts as the handle of the door was turned, opening wide into the room. Gideon? She looked confused for a moment, but that quickly passed as the pack of cigs flew into her lap, followed by the small lighter. Her hand rose to her cheek, swiping away the hot tears that had been streaking down her face. Huh, seems like her emotions had run away again... At least it was in private. Her jaw clenched as she flung the clipboard onto the table next to her, eyes darting to the side to avoid his gaze. She huffed something of an 'I'm alright," before her attention went back to the door. Her Medic, a woman commonly called Alma... She had an attitude fit for her name, so she'd heard. In truth, Erika had never met the woman, even though technically she was her patient- She was about to open her mouth to greet her... Until the woman snatched up the pack of cigs and the lighter on her lap, tossing them out of the room. Erika's mouth fell open, her eyes narrowing a bit.

Oh, right. Oxygen tanks. Speaking of- she pulled whatever tube was attached to her face away, coughing a few times as her body readjusted to non-sterile air. With that away, her attention fell back to her Medic. Thank God, she was able to go without too much hassle- when she turned to Gideon, however, a full fledged smirk came onto her face. It wasn't often he got told off by anyone other than command, most people were too chicken-s**t to do so. Her sour expression came back at the mention of debriefing and a psych eval- ugh. Those were the worst things about coming back injured... The debriefing, not so bad, but the psych eval... She knew what answers they wanted by now. It was just tedious...

Ah, well, it didn't matter now. She was free to go, just report in for the evaluation when needed. She slid herself off of the bed, wincing a bit as whatever injury she had received stretched and stung. "Gimme a minute, gonna get dressed." With that, she disappeared into the small bathroom, quickly donning her usual attire before tossing the patient's robe into the provided bin, walking past Gideon and out of the room without further words. She had heard the voice of one Squal Asamara, and that was enough to hightail it out of there before he wanted to replace her bones with titanium or some s**t.

Once out of the medical ward, she finally turned to her partner. "We messed up, Gideon. Shoulda been more careful, that whole shinding. I won't give you the whole 'woe is me' shpeel, but... Eh. Loss of lives could have been prevented. I'm not gonna bear on it too much, it's already in the past. Plus, heh. It's Holiday. You got plans?" Her attention fell over to him, a hint of a smirk playing at her lips, though her head stayed pointed towards the ceiling, her gaze from the corner of her eyes somewhat mischievous. "There's a movie or some s**t on deck three tonight, but I think I'll pass. Some sappy action romance from like sixty years ago that everyone's seen eight million times." A full, short laugh issued from her as she straightened her posture. "Not sure what I'm gonna do, honestly. Might just tail along with you if you're doing anything interesting... Then again, we could find the goddamn general, give her a piece of my mind... The ******** were they thinking, sending me without you? If it was just a scouting mission, why send the Steel Soldiers? Any other crew with half a brain can set up a beacon..."

Gideon was about to speak to Erika again before the knock on the door caused him to turn. Just who in the hell was this person? Her voice sounded familiar, as did her figure. And yet, here she was, ordering him around and- did.. Did she just throw his smokes out the room? A snarl formed on his face for a moment until the woman stated that Erika could leave. The scowl was replaced with an amused grin as the man turned to face the new challenger, as it were.

A slight inhale of air prepared him to unleash verbal hell on the woman, until the all too familiar sound of a chair squeaking rolled around near the room. 'Oh for ******** sake, not him...' Gideon thought to himself as his worries came true. Dr. Squal Asiamara, in the flesh. He wondered if something was truly wrong with Erika, if it called for Squal to make an appearance. Then again, it could have just been he wanted to make sure his old project was still functioning. It was the reason Squal was so interested in Gideon every now and then.

The soldier crossed his arms at the sight of the main egg-head and chuckled softly. "See? 'Least the good Doctor here understands. 'nd by the way, Squal, I use the words good and Doctor, loosely." A mocking tone was followed by a slight nod. "Seein' as how ya made yerself so comfortable wit' 'em, keep the smokes. I got a lot more stashed off som'where." A slight creak came from the door Erika was now emerging from, not a moment too soon. "Well.. Not to say hi 'nd run but... I've said hi.. I'm leavin' now.. As for you.." The man's gaze looked sideways at Alma, a grin still on his face. "I'll remember you. And with that, the pair were gone, leaving the medical ward behind, far far behind.

As the two walked, Gideon listened to Erika, taking in word for word what she said. Thankfully, the cigarette he had was only halfway dead. He couldn't do the talking thing without nicotine, even with her. "They died cause they were weak. Nothin' you could've done 'bout it, so no point mopin'... As for the 'oliday..." A long inhale of the smoke filled his lungs before exiting, leaving a trail behind as they walked. "Some o' the boys down in 14th division owe me a favor. They couldn't quite pay me back 'n time, so they got me a bit of a gift to tide me over. 'pparently, they got their hands on some booze. 'nd not the swill we got here, nuh-uh.. Some 'igh quality stuff from back on Earth. They di'n't say 'ow they got it, 'nd I ain' ********' askin'. But they're gonna try to liquor me up and win back the money they owe me. You wanna tag along fer some drinks and a card game, I won' c'mplain." Gideon turned to the woman and smirked. He knew she could take care of herself in a bit of a dangerous situation. Wouldn't be anything deadly, not on the station. Sure the different squadrons and soldiers would get hot-headed, Gideon especially, but it would always end in a fist fight. As long as no one reported it to Command, it was a great way to blow off steam.

On the subject of the General and the separating of the two, he scoffed, biting down on the cigarette bud. "Don' get me started on their ********' bullshite.. I don' know what goes through their ********' 'eads! Buncha idiots if ya ask me! Separatin' us fer no ********' reason... I swear the ********' General has it out fer me!" The man snarled and flicked the now spent cigarette onto the ground in frustration. He remained silent as he continued fuming, though since it was Gideon the silence was merely temporary. "Did ya at leas' get the beacon in place 'fore we got to ye? I was too busy stompin' Slayer heads in to notice."

Alma took notice of the two people, simply shrugging as they gave her irritated looks for tossing the cigarettes without a care in the world. The male surely wished to yell at her over it as well but at least his partner seemed to understand the importance of not smoking around the oxygen tanks. She was starting to prepare herself for the verbal assault by the blonde when they both stopped, her gaze lazily looking over to see Squal wheeling himself over just to end up taking the items she had tossed. ' Mein gott.... Why does everyone smoke.....? ' ' This one could if she wanted to~ We wouldn't mind~ In fact, we wonder what it tastes like~ ' ' Well too bad. Zhat is something I have no interest in. ' ' But- ' ' -I said no. ' Looking at the two men and Erika soon after, the raven-haired woman shook her head, bringing a hand up to her forehead with a disgruntled sigh. Honestly, so long as they didn't make more work for her in the long run with it or do so in her treatment rooms, she couldn't care less. Her teal eyes flicked back over to Squal, a simple nod as a hello and acknowledgement of his presence being cast his way. Alma wasn't overly fond of the man, but she didn't dislike him either. She found him to be briliant in many areas as well, but just a tad bit... well... strange, to say the least.

"Vill you now? Very well. If zhat's what you want." The medic took little interest in Gideon, if anything completely shrugging off the possible veiled threat that might have been in that statement. While she certainly wasn't the most apt for combat, Alma could still hold her own. In comparision to the team though, well, that would be left uncertain. With that said and done, Alma watched the two leave, her gaze mostly on the woman who had just previously been her patient to watch for any signs of discomfort that were signals of something much worse. Not that anything would have honestly happened though. Erika's blood was clean. Sighing, her full attention turned to Squal then, her hand returning to her forehead as her eyebrow twitched accompanied by a small grimmace. "Ja, ja, I am aware. It should still be said zhat smoking near oxygen tanks is a bad idea, regardless of who it is..... Zhat goes for you too, Asiamara." She gave him a stern look briefly before wincing again. The migraine was starting to squirm back into existance. Just what she needed right now.

"As for Erika James, she is well. Her blood samples were clean und as were zhe other samples ve took. She should be fine for whatever little experiments you have cooked up in zhat mind of yours." Alma leaned against the desk at the nurse's station, her gaze wandering a bit as she seemed to be listening to something else. ' What do you want? Don't you see you're giving me a headache again? ' ' We're hungry...~ Can this one get us those little sweet blocks again?~ Those were so good. We would love this one forever for some...~ So much so that maybe we can settle down again. This one would like that right...~? ' ' Ja, fine. I will ask. ' ' Splendid~! We thank this one very kindly~ ' With a silent nod, she turned her attention once more to Squal, an irritated expression slowly starting to form. "I hate to bother you with such a trivial question but would you have some sugar cubes? My supply of zhem ran out und it seems zhat I am to inquire about procuring some more."

A soft, drawn-out sigh escaped her as she listened, agreeing with him, though it was still hard on her. They were weak... But that didn't make them any less human. Damn, she could use a cig right now... The mention of 14th owing her partner anything caught up her interest again. Alcohol- now that was a thing she hadn't had in a very long time. "Card game and booze? That sounds like a good time waiting to happen. I'm up for it." That smirk... Maybe something else was going down tonight that involved more than just alcohol and cards.

Erika watched the trail of the cigarette as he flicked it away, Gideon growling his frustrations. As usual, the temperamental man had something to b***h about... But he was right. It seemed more often than not that the General had her eye on Gideon, if not the pair of them. But splitting them up? That was just a stupid move. At his question, she smirked. "Like I said, any crew with half a brain could have set up that beacon. Yeah, it's set, and we have a relatively safe place to land around there. A pretty cracked-up looking parking lot, big enough for a dropship, and it leads straight to the warehouse. Pretty sure next time we touch down it'll be there, if you guys killed the Slayer nest. Don't think they're smart enough to destroy it, but you can never be sure." She paused a moment, stretching her arms over her head, wincing a bit as the stitches at her side pulled against her skin. She hadn't exactly examined her wound, now seemed a good a time as any... Erika lifted the corner of her shirt, looking down to the black and blue area with a disgusted face. It wasn't infected, but it would be sore for a bit. Not any worse than she usually got against Gideon when he got a good hit in, but he didn't have claws. Thank God for her armored mech, that could have been a horrible ordeal...

"So till it's time to meet up with 14th, you up for some breakfast? I don't even know how long I've been out, but I'm starved." Without waiting for an answer, she turned herself towards the mess hall, looking back towards him with her sideways smirk. "I'm goin' with or without ya."

He had turned to regard the pair and smiled. His smile was on that often set others off, sending their nerves on edge. It was the same smile he used during his experiments.

"Why hello children, Gideon you are as skill with your tongue as ever. Keep your partner alive will you? It would be detrimental to our cause to lose her for a simple mission." His reply was tossed aside by everyone as he focused again on Alma.

"Hmm... I was hoping for her to become infected, it has been far too long since the xenos was brought to my labs. I wanted to mark the progress of the infection, how quickly and violently the changes were first hand." He shrugged passively and removed his cigarette. Pinching the tip, the doctor extinguished his tool and pocketed. He looked up at Alma's strange request, the same smile returning. He dug in his pocket and brought up a tiny vial filled with blocks of compressed sugar. He created his own sugar, personally for his tea and for other experiments. "Aye, I have a few left. However, I wish to speak with them. A fair trade wouldn't you say, huh dear Alma?"

He was always interested in Hlen Alma Dragomir, a woman who survived something they all thought impossible. Every opportunity he could find to learn more about her... other side, he went for it. He had no shame. Science wouldn't allow him to care of pity things like that if it meant holding him back. "An hour per cube, also I will inform you about what we have planned for the future of Guardian Angel!"

"Ja... I vas wondering und hoping a little for it as well. Perhaps she could have provided an answer to mein own problem." Alma sighed, lazily looking off towards the two as they vanished from sight. Good for her though. Living with something like Hydra... It wasn't easy. While she wanted someone to use to find a means of removing it from herself, she still didn't wish that upon anyone. She was cruel, yes, but never that bad. That was Squal's thing. He was brilliant though. The time she had spent as his assistant was valuable, so much so that she dearly wanted it back. Just thinking of the opportunities that she was missing out on pissed off the raven-haired woman. Stupid thing... "I'm sure zhere will be anozher in time. Zhe conditions just need to be exact, it seems. Zhose we've experimented on never seem to take to zhe same way. If we could refine it zhough... It could end up being something useful. But ah, zhat is being far too optimistic, ja..." While not generally negative, the medic couldn't help but be angry at the situation.

As her gaze returned to Squal, her teal eyes locked onto the small vial of sugar. Of course he would have some. With how much the man seemed to love tea, she should have guessed he would have something. Alma looked back towards him, about to ask him for the vial when her hand returned to her forehead. ' Yes, yes! That! Give us that! We want it! .... We've noticed it helps our development.... You know what would help your development? Listening to us... Leave them..... No, no! If she leaves them, we can't get the tasty sweet stuff!~.... Of course not. We can have better back with our kind.... We're not sure of this. We need her just as much as she needs us.... DON'T CARE~! GIVE US SUGAR~! ' The three personalities of the entity known as Hydra argued. One clearly wanted the man's sugar cubes, one noticed that it helped and just seemed concerned for the well-being of the both of them, and the last one... well... Alma chose to ignore that one. Oh how she loathed that one. That aside, having them bicker, squirming about as they did so, caused another severe headache. This was was bad enough that she nearly accepted his offer without properly listening to it. Taking a moment to think about it past the voices however, Alma scowled faintly, letting out an irritated sigh. Of course the sugar wouldn't be for free; nothing ever was with him.

She was about to refuse and take the search fully into her own hands when her headache got a little worse. The medic wasn't given an option now. She just simply needed to silence them as soon as possible before she gained a full migraine out of their chaos. "Ja, ja... fine. I accept. You can talk to zhem. Can I please have one of zhose now? Just to calm zhem down...? We'll go talk right away if you wish. Just...." Alma's hand stayed pressed to her forehead, a curious expression pushing its way past the grimmace on her face. Plans for the satellite station? He was going to tell her? But she wasn't his assistant anymore... Her tone immediately changed, far more willing to hear out his request. Not so much for silencing Hydra now, but for wanting to feel like her position was never taken from her because of it.

"An hour per cube und information... Ja, I definitely accept."

' Sugar, sugar, sugar~!.... Would you be quiet? She's clearly trying to think to get us some..... Forget it. Head back to Earth. Find them..... No! We need su- '

' SILENCE. MEIN GOTT. JUST SHUT UP. '

                                                        ' ......NO~!....... We're sorry.... We're not sorry.... '

Alma's day had certainly taken an interesting turn. Now if only Hydra would calm down to make it even better.....

He grumbled at the mention of the Slayer nest. "You'd think it'd be a smart move... Takin' out the nest.. But lo'n'behold, Command didn't agree with me. Try an' cuss as I did, they said that we didn't have the time. We didn't know how many of ye were injured or dead. So, we were sent as a rescue, not clean-up... Eh, it don't matter to me.. Got you safe, yeh?"

His eyes drifted to her wound as she lifted her shirt up. A low whistle came forth as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Well didn't they just do a number on you?" Gideon's words sounded cold and cruel, but Erika should know better. It was just how he was. The man had a problem showing emotions other than anger and rage. It was all he ever really knew in his life. He was angry at the world for so long for being so weak. He hated living on a space station as their home world was destroyed by alien scum. The thought of it made his blood boil. A shake of the head attempted to dismiss his thoughts as he turned to the woman, asking about food. Honestly, it was the last thing on his mind. The man could go a day or two without eating, as long as he had several packs of cigarettes on hand. After a mission, he generally had no appetite for food, only one for getting back to Earth and killing more xenomorph filth.

A sigh left him as he watched her make for the mess hall. He needed to eat, he figured. Cigarettes weren't the most nutritious thing on the station, though they tasted better than some of the slop they served. "Yeah, yeah, yeah.. Keep yer panties on, fer ******** sakes.. I'm comin'." He chuckled lowly as he followed his partner, taking several long strides to catch up with her rather quickly. The two made it to the mess hall with little more conversation, Gideon's mind was still focused on Earth more than anything.

The man was still pissed that they had gotten separated on a mission just because he was volatile. If anything, that's what made him such a good soldier. He was willing to give up his life if it meant the securing of Earth for mankind and killing off the rest of those god damned aliens. He motioned at an nearby and empty table as he continued walking. "Take a seat. Ya need some rest, even I can see that. Let that wound try to heal, I'll grab yer food." He didn't wait for her to comply, she would do so if she knew what was good for her. The line was, thankfully, rather short. It didn't take long for him to grab two trays of food before making his way back to Erika. He slid the tray towards her, chuckling. "Well lookey here, it's our favorite.. Dehydrated eggs, synthetic bacon, bread that, honestly would probably taste much better if it were stale... And juice. Think that's the only natural thing here..." He chuckled as he mentally shrugged and started eating.

He smiled at her as he popped the plastic top and jiggled a cube into her open palm.

"Please, take one and regain your composure. It wouldn't do well to let them have such an effect on you or your work. " He spoke with cool and matter-of-fact tone, but he was not harsh. He knew that the woman was capable of many great things, including his own job. He turned around in his chair, giving her a gesture to follow him as he moved him way away from the medical center. "There are many opportunities in the future for us to the weaponization and utilization of your condition, but for now. We must cater to our guest, make them feel welcome and comfortable so they don't make your head pop!" He joked as they traveled.

A few questions and perhaps even a set up a few experiments of my own. It has been long since my last examination of Alma. He thought to himself as he rolled around the pristine white halls. He heard her following, the clicks of her heels marking her position behind him. He was restless admittedly. Another year of the same experiments, with the same results. He was bored and perhaps something would appear that would capture his interest more, but for now he had to be careful whom he leaked information to. A lazy tongue often caught eager ears.

"Obviously as you have noticed, our numbers overall are dwindling. It takes too long to properly train soldiers to be at their peak to combat the rate of loss we are currently experiencing." He reached into his coat pocket and showed off a holopad. It was a long list of their lost soldiers over the past few missions. He thumbed down the list with a frown. "So many lost souls, so much wasted potential...", he sighed as he passed her the list if she was interested in seeing the reports.

He stopped before his lab and waved his ID badge to gain access, a place where only a special few may enter. "Currently, I have been toying with the idea of playing God." He spoke passively as the lights activated, screen of data popping up all over as he went to his main computer. His finger danced across the desktop keys, passwords prompts appearing and disappearing quickly. "As you know, the current model of Reproduction Robots have collecting the genetic sampling of whomever we can get to continue the human race. However, this is only just the beginning." He had smiled as he turned to face her, his glasses flashing white from the glare of he lights above. "Why reproduce those whom are born to fail? Why not only the bet and brightest among us. It would not only give us the edge in the war, but it would make it much easier to train soldiers in a short amount of time it is already in their genes!"

"Just think about it Alma! Think what we could accomplish if we had two of my genius! The possibility of having five sets of Sixth Division could revolutionize how we foresee front line combat!" He laughed aloud as his excitement began to get the better of him. With so many potential breeders, we would need to start many tests to weed out the bad seeds. We wouldn't need to waste our resources on those who would waste it, he thought to himself privately as he took a moment to puff his cigarette. He need to calm himself before he spilled more of the beans than he already did. "Mind you, this is all my hopes and dreams. I wish to fly close enough to the sun to feel my wings drip and warp around him, if you will." He chuckled and stood up fully.

"But come now, we have a deal to fulfill. So far, I get to enjoy an hour of company with these lovely creatures of your's. Let us see if I can't get anymore~!" He offered her a chair, though it was currently being used by files. He moved them to the side, having already memorized the information they held within.

Tch... Hard words from a hard man. But hey, she knew her partner rather well, considering the past six years- he didn't mean anything by it, that much she was certain of. The trip to the mess hall was a short one as usual, but as she made her way to the grub line, Gideon had made his remark. Sit there, I'll do it... Eh, why not? Without too much of a hassle, she took her seat, propping her feet up on the chair in front of her and watching the general hustle until the blonde man arrived with two trays of food.

At least, what passed for food on the floating station. A disgusted, disgruntled look crossed her face as she poked at her breakfast with a plastic fork- same old, same old. Before shoveling a forkful into her mouth, she grinned. "Yeah, well... At least fruit and veggies are easy enough to grow. It's the vegetarians that have it good back on Home Base, but damn, what I wouldn't do for a fresh piece of meat." The slight chuckle that followed proved to be a bit more painful than she anticipated, but she did her best to hide it. Erika usually ate her meals in relative silence, letting Gideon get whatever menagerie of ideas he had rattling around take surface- this time however, it seemed neither of them had much to talk about. At least, not at first. A gloved hand reached into her pocket, taking out a small orange bottle with something scrawled on the label- some kind of painkiller, or antibiotic, or some s**t- maybe even something to do with her prosthetics, knowing the damned doctor. Speaking of... Erika held a hand before her eyes a moment, pressing fingertips against her temple, blinking once or twice as a faint luminescence came forth from the inhumanly purple irises. Good, they were still in working order as far as she could tell. Before the soft glow dispersed, she looked up towards Gideon.

"So, partner. How's the General? No doubt she's on pins and needles waiting on talkin' to me, yeah? I've not even been up and about for half a day yet, and my pager's gone off twice. No doubt for a debrief... How long you think it'll take her to find me this time, eh? Three, four hours, tops?" To be honest, if it were damn near anyone else on this ship, she severely doubted they could get away with what she did. The perks of being a near-irreplaceable soldier... Granted, it also came with its downfalls. So many times lately she'd felt herself being spread much too thin, especially now that she was scheduled for missions without Gideon- that was to say that they didn't stop that stupid call right then, after assessing her wounds and the loss of able soldiers...

Snoring heavily, tossing gently, and moaning just a little bit, Will slept on his cot. He slept in his workshop, despite the orders from higher ups, but they knew how Will worked, usually whenever, but he always seemed to get more done than everyone else. "No, no we... you have a boyfriend. I can't just. Why do you have to do that, you know what that does to me.... oh come here you dirty little whore..." Tossing over onto his front, letting out a snore, he sighed heavily, continuing to dream. "Oh yeah... spread those... UGH!"

Angel jumped up on him, gently landing on his back, even though the cat weighed about three hundred pounds. Just as agile, warm and gentle, his metallic companion licked his hair waking him from his dream. Will let out a long sigh, brushing his hair back with one hand, out of his face. He scowled at his cat. "What the hell... I was having the best...." One look into the creature's face, head gently cocked sideways, Will stopped being mad. "Good mornin' to you too." He leaned up, his hands on Angel's head and put his nose to hers. For truly, Angel was almost self aware. With the imitation curious mind of a parrot, that thinks its a cat, programmed for emotion and understanding. Angel laid down next to him, her head on his chest. He patted the sides of her head lovingly, to which a little motor kicked on making the imitation of a purr, though much lower and deeper. "What do you say kiddo, want something to eat?" Perking her ears, Angel nodded and, what could only be described as, smiled. They both sat up and stretched. He stood, throwing his jeans. They were his off duty trousers, and they flared out at the bottom slightly, having a hole in the knee, but over all, fitting loosely. A button up Hawaiian shirt, which he only buttoned one button, and a pair of boots, which he kept unlaced. He cracked his back and took the last swig from last night's ale. Piss water is a better name. He contact for good swill was off for the holiday so he was stuck with the s**t this metal prison had to offer. Still, Guardian Angel was home. "C'mon girl!"

Will walked in a manor that betrayed relaxed tension.... or that's what he called it. He seemed, and was, physically relaxed, though his posture was straight, his chest out, almost marching, but not stiff in the slightest. Mentally he was scanning, tired and hungover, but scanning, thinking, waiting, watching, planning. He was mentally coiled like a spring, ready for anything. His body was ultra toned, but not extremely bulky. He reached out his right arm, running metal fingers, along metal neck of Angel. Will's right arm was mechanical from the elbow down. A little spark between the two of them as he touched. The cat rubbed against his thigh as they walked down the hall.

Coming to the main shop where all the Suits were, Will walked over to his area, rattling the wrenches on the way to his bench. He looked at the new suit for him to repair and paused. "Holy ******** babe? Do you see that? What the ******** happened to that... Oh.... s**t man... that's Pilot James' suit... God I hope she's alright." Angel nodded up at Will. He walked over and cranked on a handle and poured a mixture of extremely electric, hazardous, liquid. Angel could lap up the liquid and it would power her core for another few days. The patted her again, and again she smiled at him. "See you in a bit kitten."

Will ran his hand along the wrenches again. Now to the DFAC. Food was food to Will. He appreciated great food, but bad food didn't bother him. He walked down the hall, being greeted by every female he passed. Some with a friendly, "Hi Will," or, "Wassup Will." One or two with a slow, hooded eye, breathy, "Hey Will..." He smiled and started to hum an old Irish song he heard an Pat in the next engine bay singing. Will's walk was with a little shoulder swagger, chest out, long stride, but not arrogant in the least. He had the calmest, most open heart expression on his face at most time.

He walked into the DFAC, grabbing a tray, someone pushed in front of him with two trays. "My bad bro." Will loaded up his plate with everything and double helpings of certain things. He walked over and sat down, watching the guy with the two trays sit next to... Pilot James. How good to see her up and about. Will set his tray down at a table and walked over. "Ey, was goin on. Ey, You're uh Pilot James right? I'm workin on your Suit and just wanted to check and see if you were alright... because.... that suit is ffffuuucked up. It looked like it was chewed up by a leviathan and spat back out then eaten again.... um..." Will cleared his throat, realizing he was talking to a pilot and corrected his language. "Good to see you are alright ma'am... if there is anything you'd like changed on your weaponry or the mechanics and controls of the suit in general, jus look me up aight. I got boys in the new weaponry department. Fair enough?"
