Organization/Military Guilds: Rules and Regulations

Welcome! If you're reading this, you're either curious to see what Organization/Military (O/M) Guilds is all about, or you are wanting to make an O/M Guild.

Well, either way, this is the announcement for you. No more beating around the bush, lets get to the bottom of it all.

Requirements for your O/M guild

Listed below are the things every guild in the O/M subforum must have to remain in that forum. Failure to meet the requirements listed below may result in your thread being moved to the chatterbox until the requirements are met

Aim of the Guild What is your guild about? What do you hope to accomplish, what purpose do you serve? All that should be in here.

Open to attack? In the O/M, you can be open to attack, or not open to attack. If you are open to attack, that means other O/M Guilds that are open to attack can attack your guild. If you are not open to attack, that means you will be immune to other people's attacks. However, if you are not open to attack, you cannot attack someone else. If you do attack someone else, then you are flagged for being open to attack.

Story The background story of your guild, how it was formed, why, by who, anything interesting happened before that should be known. You should also set up the plot as it stands now.

Description This contains many diffrent parts, the basic description of your base, including- size, location (geographical location and above/underground), stock, units inside ect. It also includes anything else that you have to describe by the way of your base/equipment.

Defenses What do you have in the way of defenses for your guild, establish what they are, how they are used, and how it affects other players.

Rules What are the rules of your guild? What are members/non-members allowed to do. Please note that your guild cannot allow rules that would violate the TOS (this includes cybering by PM). You should also have a section of how users can apply to your guilds here.

Member list Who are the members of your guild and what are their ranks?

Alignment Is your guild good, bad, neutral, lawful, chaotic or something in between? Describe the values/code of your guild here.

Rules of the O/M Sub-Forum
When posting in the O/M, the following should be avoided:
  • Flaming - The act of insulting others for any reason, which includes during an argument, or OOC in an RP, is seen as Flaming. Flaming is an offense on Gaia that is not tolerated. Remember, if someone flames you, Report it, do not flame in return. This will only lead to more trouble.

  • Trolling - The act of creating a post or a thread that is made to get a particular group of individuals angry or sad. This is a serious offense on Gaia, and will be dealt with appropriately.

  • Cybering - Cybering is the act of roleplaying Sexual situations. This is not tolerated on Gaia anywhere (including PMs, Towns, Slots, or Fishing) and is seen as offense. If you feel the need to Cyber, please take it outside of Gaia.

  • Over PG-13 Pictures, and Roleplay - Gaia is a PG-13 site, and posting material that is over this limit is not permitted. When doing a Roleplay with Violence, please keep descriptions down.

  • Hotlinking - Hotlinking is the act of going to a website, and directly linking to one of their images. An example is if someone from Gaia used the Image URL from google.com's Google image and posted it on Gaia. When you want to use an image from another website, please save the picture to your computer and upload it to an imagehost, such as Imageshack or Photobucket

  • Spam - Spamming is making a post in a thread that is unwelcome, or has no merit to the topic at hand in the thread. Spamming is also making a thread that is for nothing but bumping, gaining gold, etc. Please refrain from making spam posts, since they can be a bannable offense.

  • Hate Threads - Hate threads are threads or guilds that are created in order to show hate towards another person, race, religion, etc. These are seen as Trolling and will be dealt with as such.

  • Advertising/Recruiting/Outpost Threads - Threads in which are made to advertise GGN guilds, or anything else is not allowed in the Guilds forum. These threads belong in Chatterbox only. Failure to place these in Chatterbox can result in being warned by a Site Moderator for spamming. Outpost threads are seen as threads in which a GGN guild has placed in the O/M in order to attack other guilds from the safety of their GGN (this includes RPing threads, if you want an RPing thread outside of the GGN, Barton Town or Guild RP is where it belongs.). These are not allowed. However, an O/M Guild with a private GGN for talking, and planning, is allowed, as long as the guild's request to join is turned off, and the GGN is used for strict talking.

The Report System

Please Note:: Abuse of the Report System will result in a ban being placed on your account. Please think before you act!

The Report System is the mighty mistress of Gaia that allows the moderators to help keep Gaia clean. This service not only saves you time, but it also saves us time! However, before using this system, it is nice to get better acquainted with it.

When to use the Report System

The Report System should only be used on Posts when:

  • Someone is flaming you, please only report flames that are directed at yourself.
  • Someone is spamming a thread, as per the thread's guidelines.
  • Trolling posts, such as posts that are created to spark hate in a thread.
  • Over PG-13 material.
  • Cybering, or other means of sexual interaction through Roleplay.
  • Unwelcome advertising of another thread or service on Gaia.
  • The User's Signature breaches the 500x500 pixel limit, or breaches the 100,000 bytes limit.
  • Page-Stretching Posts, 14g and 18g posts
  • Other ToS violations on the site (Asking for Passwords, Moderator or Admin impersonation, etc)

Reminder: Swearing is allowed on Gaia Online, please refrain from reporting it.

The Report System should only be used on Threads when:

  • The thread is misplaced in the forum it is currently in. To check this, please refer to the sticky in your forum or subforum.
  • The thread is a spam thread outside of Chatterbox, such as a bump thread.
  • The thread is created for the purpose of making another person or group of individuals upset and angry, also known as trolling.
  • The thread's purpose is to advertise another service, guild, or thread on Gaia. These threads shoujld only be in Chatterbox.
  • A thread that is based around, or encourages over PG-13 activites or pictures.
  • Other ToS violations on the site (Asking for Passwords, Moderator or Admin impersonation, etc)

Where to Report Hackings, Scams, and Harrasement Cases (These can all be found on the bottom of the Forum Index as well):

Getting to know your Report Buttons

The buttons to Report the items above are extremely simple to find in the forum. The Report a Post button is located on the right hand side of the screen above a person's post, and looks like this:

The Report a Thread button is located at the bottom of any page in a thread, on the left hand side, and looks like this:

Please remember that if you accidentally click these buttons, you have no need to fear. A report will only be sent out if you hit the "Yes" button in the window it opens. If you accidentally hit any of the buttons above, just hit Back on your browser, or the "No" button at the bottom of the page.

Knowing Site Moderators

On Gaia, there are three different colored groups of moderators. Each group has a certain role to fill, to help keep Gaia running. However, each group has the following powers all over Gaia:

  • Ability to deal with Report a Thread/Report a Post submissions
  • Moderation in any forum on Gaia
  • Uphold the ToS and Rules and Guidelines in any part of Gaia

Besides these powers, each group upholds a special role on Gaia:

"From Jakobo's Announcement on 1/21/2005"
Dedicated GAIA Moderators - The name change from Dedicated moderator to Dedicated GAIA Moderators reflects the slight reassignment in the moderator's duty on the site. Working with the GAIA Helpers around the site, Dedicated GAIA Moderators help to move threads that are in the wrong forum. Additionally, Dedicated GAIA Moderators are able to handle ToS violations in threads and posts, responding to someone's "Report This Thread/Post" (more on this in a moment). Much like they do now, when a Dedicated GAIA Moderators is free of obligation to their own section of the site, they are capable of moderating around GAIA.

Global GAIA Moderators - Taking over part of the role of our former General Moderators, the Global GAIA Moderators will be working with Abuse and Harassment cases, as well as being leaders for the Gaia Community and the moderating team. These individuals will continue to moderate the site much like before, but will be able to assist users across a variety of forums.

Omnimoderators - Okay, I won't lie to you, the name just sounded cool, and calling them "Gaia Account Issue Moderators" just didn't sound as interesting. Anyway, Omnimoderators focus on issues with users' accounts, especially when it comes to Hacking and Scamming reports. They will be the moderators who respond when these forms are filled out. They may also be moderators in some forums around the site.

Besides the three main groups, there is a new group which was added in order to help combat misplaced threads in the forums. This is the Gaia Helpers:

"From Jakobo's Announcement on 1/21/2005"
Gaia Helpers - We have added a new level of moderator known as the GAIA Helper. These are the users who you should contact regarding threads that are in the wrong forum / subforum. These individuals are capable of moving threads from one forum to another, and are often dedicated to the forums they frequent on a regular basis. Every GAIA Helper will have a moderator on the site who is responsible for their actions. Therefore, if you are in disagreement with the actions of a GAIA Helper it is best to contact a member of the administration team. Please of course, be sure to include any relevant PMs, thread links, and information that would assist us in the matter.

Please, do not PM Helpers with ToS Violations. Please send those to a Moderator assigned to the forum

Viewing Moderators Assigned to your Forum

In order to see what Moderators are assigned to the forum you preside in, at the top of the forum page, look for the View Forum Moderators link. By clicking this, you will be presented with a screen off all the moderators and helpers assigned in the forum, as well as if they are On/Off-line, and a Link to PM them.
