Alot of main characters get killed off in series .

In series, yes.
However, Naruto is written by Masashi Kishimoto.
Kakashi was "killed" off but he got revived.
Hell, Masashi practically revived everyone he killed off in one way or another.
Sakura dying? I don't see Masashi having the balls to something like that.

I didn't think Neji was going to die but he did.

Technically, Neji is not "dead".
Obito was going to revive before Zetsu took over his body.
Since we now know that Obito is on the good side, Obito is probably still going to revive him after the battle is over.
Like you said, Neji is a support character and support characters come and go.

If you can't explain it to me more or can't actually prove that he's "not dead" then I'm not going to believe you.
