I would love to write a novel for NaNo someday...

But right now I don't even know if I COULD write 50k in words. So I'm giving myself a year to do it than cutting back a couple months until I can get to a month.

Any other suggestions to help me get going? I have wrote many short stories and am in the plotting stage of this future novel.

Nano is actually held three times a year: June, August (I think), and November.

Just write a little everyday steadily and you'll do fine.

I don't want to overwhelm myself the first time. And due to my schedule I can't write every day for a month.
