A while ago, we ran a contest where Gaia members could try to come up with a name for our new MMO. We wanted something a little more thrilling than "battle," since there's much more to do than just battling stuff.

After months of debate, meditation and intense physical conflict, we've finally settled on the winning name:



It's short, it's punchy, it's memorable and it pretty much says it all. Many congrats to Chat_God for suggesting the title!

Also, I bet you're all wondering when you can start playing zOMG!, right? Soon! We're in the early stages of our beta test, and we're slowly ramping up the number of testers we let in the game at once. A public beta is just around the corner!

As an amusing side note, we thought we'd take a moment to celebrate some of the other brilliant entries that we didn't wind up choosing. The list below is, I swear to you, composed entirely of absolutely real entries that real Gaians actually sent us. Really. Enjoy:

You've been waiting for a long time to play our MMO, and your first chance is almost here.

We're getting very close to showing the game to the world, but we need to do extensive testing and tweaking first to make sure it's shipshape and ready for launch. Soon, we'll enter the beta phase, which will let a group of intrepid Gaians play the game for the first time and tell us how to make it more fun. This is one of the most critical stages in the game's development, and the feedback of the Gaia community is the key to making the game as fantastic as it could possibly be.

To apply for the beta test, you'll need to fill out a brief questionnaire about your gaming habits and other random info. For our first round of beta testing, we're looking for lots of folks from varied backgrounds, so please be truthful; there's no point in just telling us what you think we want to hear (it won't work anyway, since you don't know what we want to hear!)

We'll probably have a lot more applicants than we have room for, so not every applicant will make it into this round of testing. Don't worry-- Battle will be here before you know it.

Important Note: Any communication we send regarding the Battle/MMO beta test will come from staff accounts, which have colored usernames. If you receive a PM from someone with a regular black username trying to give you information about how to get into the beta test, it's a scam! Don't fall for it. Click the "report this PM" button, and the scammer will exit this world through a fiery gate of pain.

The interest in Battle was so strong and overwhelming that we decided to move the Battle Website to a different location -- we'll be making an announcement tomorrow with the new location, and we sincerely hope that you'll see why we're so excited about it!

Hello, citizens! Most of you know Barton as Gaia's cleanest, friendliest and most hospitable city. In fact, most of you are probably citizens of Barton, enjoying its lovely Towns neighborhoods and building your homes on its quaint, cobbled streets.

I love Barton, friends. I devote my life to protecting it, and I take great pleasure in greeting its fine citizens as they enter Towns. When I heard of the upcoming water balloon fight, I knew that the easygoing citizens of my fair city would make amusing targets for those Durem punks and rich Gambinoans.





Let them attack, I say! I've set about building the world's largest squirt gun, and its awe-inspiring nozzle shall unleash fearsome torrents of doom on all those who oppose us! Join with me, citizens, and we will defeat all those foolish enough to mess with Barton!

Kikis Road Trip keeps on rollin' along, and we're about to hit another convention! We'll be in Indianapolis for Gencon this week, hosting some Gaia events and giveaways. Our Gaia Gatherings will be on Thursday and Saturday at 7:00pm in the Congress room of the Westin Hotel. This is an official event, so you'll need a Gencon badge, but you do not need to have an event ticket to attend. More information is available on our Gencon Page.

We are also happy to announce that Kiki will be visiting Fan Expo Canada next week. This event will be on Friday at 7:00pm and on Sunday at 2:00pm in Room 713A. More information is available on the Fan Expo Canada Page.

As usual, the Gaia prize patrol will be roaming our Road Trip stops looking for users who are wearing Gaia hats, shirts and accessories! If you're lucky enough to be caught by the prize patrol, you'll be rewarded with a free Gaia Gold card. Be sure to wear your favorite Gaia gear for your chance to snag some free Gold!
