Announcement: Heads up: Supernatural forum, quick reply & homepage test Go to post 1 Community Announcements Thu Oct 29, 2009 7:12 pm
Howdy, pardners-- we just wanted to check in with a couple of quick news items...

New Forum: Supernatural

Hey, there's a new forum! Just in time for Halloween, we've dreamt up a brand new place to discuss vampires, werewolves, bigfoots (bigfeet?), yetis, apocryphal lake monsters, ghosts, fairies, Santas, etc. Our new Supernatural Forum is a permanent place for all you aspiring paranormal investigators to meet, shake hands, and exchange your gooey ectoplasm in a safe, nurturing environment.

Quick Reply!

See the little down arrow on the right side of the "reply" button in the forums? Click on that to post a reply without even leaving the page! You won't get all the fancy formatting buttons, but if you just want to make a quick post without leaving the page, it's perfect timesaver for today's busy forum poster on the go.

New Homepage Test

Over the next few weeks, we're planning on trying out some new looks for the logged-out homepage, so a certain percentage of you guys might see something like this when you visit Gaia:

Each of the top tabs will showcase a different feature of Gaia; we just wanted to show new unregistered visitors some of the best stuff without overwhelming them with a ton of content.

There's not really much else to tell-- we just didn't want you to be freaked out when you visited Gaia and it looked all cool and unfamiliar. Beyond that, there aren't any changes to the site's registration process or anything.

Office Costume Survey: Vote!

It being Halloween and all, we decided to have a little costume contest around the Gaia office. Being staunch believers in democracy and egalitarianism, we thought we'd let you, the people, vote on which ones are the best. Voting is open till Monday, so please check it out!

Announcement: Gold Lotto has a new home! Go to post 1 Community Announcements Thu Oct 29, 2009 7:06 pm
If you're itchin' to try your luck at possibly winning ridiculous sums of Gaia Gold (over 2,000,000 if you match all five winning numbers), just hover your mouse over the "Games" option in the navigation menu above. Gold Lotto will appear at the top of the list. Alternately, you can click that very same "Games" option and find a link on the actual games page itself.

Of course if you're too lazy to do that, you can also click the big ol' link below.

Announcement: Halloween event on hold for now. Go to post 0 Community Announcements Thu Oct 29, 2009 12:40 am
We released our Halloween event to a portion of the Gaian population this morning, but due to some unexpected server freak-outs we've had to put it on pause for the time being. If you already got a chance to play, don't worry-- you won't lose any of your items or progress. We'll make another attempt to re-launch it tomorrow, and hopefully things will go a little more smoothly.

There's still some fun to be had, though. We've released the Demonbusters manga, so you can catch up on the strange events leading to Halloween.

Sorry for the false start, and thanks so much for your patience.

Announcement: Gaia on Facebook: We're Almost to 150,000! Go to post 1 Community Announcements Fri Oct 23, 2009 7:04 pm
We're inching seriously close to our noble goal of getting 150,000 fans on Facebook. Thanks to you guys, we flew past the 125k mark. With a little more help, we'll clinch 150k like a lobster clinches... well, whatever it is a lobster likes to clinch.

If you haven't become a fan yet, please do! Tell your friends! Write a letter to your congressman asking him to become a fan! We update our Facebook page all the time with useful news, contests, and exclusive content, so it's well worth checking out (and becoming a fan of).

Once we reach the magic number, we're gonna bust out a new celebratory item for all the folks that helped us climb so high. You've still got time to get in on that action!

Announcement: Gaia Staff and Moderators will never ask for your password! Go to post 1 Community Announcements Tue Oct 20, 2009 1:19 am
Hey, Gang! We just wanted to take a couple minutes of your time to deliver an important safety reminder: never give out your password to anyone! Not to friends, not to Gaia staff, not to anyone.

A common tactic used by account thieves is to impersonate Gaia staff or moderators, then demand to know your password. Often these ne'er-do-wells will attempt to influence you with one of the following strategies:

  • Trying to intimidate you by saying you will be banned unless you reveal your password within a few minutes.
  • Saying they need your password is needed to resolve an issue with your account.
  • Saying they need your password to check for viruses.
  • Saying they need your password to clear up a report against you.

The good news is that it's super easy to avoid these traps. Nobody representing Gaia will ever ask you for your password. We can handle any potential account issues without ever needing to know it.

If you ever encounter anyone asking for or demanding to know your password here on Gaia, please help us out and report them right away!

Sharing your password with friends or strangers can lead to your hard-earned items and Gold getting stolen or your account getting banned... not to mention a big huge mess for us to clean up. So, to repeat: never share your password!

Still don't believe me? Check out this short video by the Gaia staff saying the exact same thing in far fewer words and with the added bonus of a whole lot of bloopers at the end. We're really serious about this!
