Kin smiled slightly as she saw Arielle come to help.
"Danny's collapsed out here," she said. "Can you find out where the infirmary is from that secretary woman?" Looking past the girl with mild annoyance, she continued, "And possibly get someone to help me carry him? I'm in good shape, but not that good. Unless you volunteer?" She smiled at the former goddess of wisdom before returning to Danny's side. ((Wow...come on people, let's not let this die yet!!)) |

Hearing Danny's confusion didn't help Kin's state of mind. If anything, she felt guilty, though for what specifically, she wasn't sure. How could he have gotten this far in life without becoming aware of his past life?
But she was stalling; avoiding his gaze wasn't going to help. But how could she explain this predicament without understanding it fully herself? She heard a soft thump and looked up to see Danny crumpled on the ground. She was at his side in an instant, bare feet forgotten. Panic made her chest tight again, but it eased as she saw he was only sleeping. Probably passed out from mental and emotional exhertion. 'I'm feeling pretty exhausted myself,' she thought. It was turning into a long day. She looked back down at Danny. 'Apollo...Danny...I'm so sorry.' There it was again. Thoughts...feelings...Were they hers, Kinara's? Or Artemis's? Was there a difference? Kin felt like she was losing pieces of herself, and getting new ones she didn't want. She sighed, frustrated with her thought processes. "I'll explain everything to you when you wake up, I promise," she said to the comatose boy and rose, running back to the doors and throwing them open. "Hey! I need some help out here!" she called, hoping the group had not moved too far. |

Kinara froze at Danny's reply. She hadn't said that out loud. Danny looked as confused as she felt, and then, slowly, he began to look terrified.
'...who are you...' 'Oh my God,' Kin thought. 'He doesn't know.' '...can...you...hear me?...my thoughts...can you hear them?' Kin closed her eyes. She was starting to panic as well, and that was not a good thing. Still, she felt like she was going to cry as she looked him in the eye and thought, very clearly: 'Yes. I can hear you.' She opened her mouth, and her voice cracked as she said, "But it doesn't make sense..." Artemis and Apollo hadn't had this kind of link, had they? She couldn't remember...and she had no clue how to control it. Kin looked down and blinked hard. Dammit. She didn't know how the hell to approach this delicately. |

In Kin's eyes, Danny looked like a puppy that had been kicked a few times. You might beckon it with the best of intentions, but it's still going to be wary of you.
"Uh...yeah. I called." She looked down at her bare feet and blushed. "And yeah...I like to walk around barefoot if it's not too cold. I'm weird like that." She paused, and decided to go for it: "Hey, did you say something a minute ago...before I called you?" 'He's going to think I'm crazy,' she thought. 'Absolutely insane. And I might agree with him, if I'm starting to hear voices...Was that even one of Artemis's abilities??' |

Kin left the school and stalked around the building, touching the stone lightly. The breeze on her face felt good; immediately the tightness in her chest eased. She wandered a little further, around the corner of the building, and over to the trees that surrounded it. Leaning her case and bag against the trunk of one tree, she looked up at it.
She would loved to have climbed it, but, looking down at her skirt, figured it would be a bad idea. Instead, she sat down, back against the rough bark. She took off her shoes and leaned back, feeling the earth beneath her feet and letting her thoughts drift. '...knew I scared her off...' She jumped, looking around and seeing no one. That hadn't been spoken aloud...though the voice was already familiar, it echoed oddly in her mind. "...Danny?" she called out hesitantly. |

Kin shook her head at Arielle's words. It was too true how some things had changed. The temples were ruined, the worshippers long dead, the names of their gods were ghosts. But perhaps some things had changed for the better, at least in her case. She remembered being Artemis, dreamed about it often once she hit puberty...and she did not like that aspect of herself. She didn't want to be that girl...goddess. Whatever.
'Mr. Sunshine?' she thought, looking over at Danny, who was looking at Tatiana, and beneath the curiosity she could sense worry. But why would she call him that?... Oh. Oh. Apollo... Kin thought, feeling slightly stupid, before another emotion that was and yet was not hers rose up in her chest. Relief. Artemis had loved her twin brother very much...and here he was. But does he know? Do any of us not know? Should I approach him about it, and will he think I'm crazy? She didn't think she could handle that. The confusion was making her feel trapped. It was not a comfortable feeling. Kinara turned to Tatiana, smile back in place. "Well, the tour is going very slowly. We keep on getting...distracted." Okay, it was definitely getting too crowded in here. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, lest she pass out, Kin turned to Mrs. Maria. "I'm sorry, but I'll finish the tour by myself later. I...really need some fresh air." Without waiting for a reply, the former godddes turned and passed Tatiana, heading back for the front doors. As she went, she heard a raised voice, and looked back without pausing to see a teacher lecturing the pale girl that had passed them. She continued without pausing, needing to be outside. I don't care. I don't care. |

Kinara vaguely wondered if anyone else had felt the presence; Destera perhaps? The dark girl seemed to have a knack for picking up on things, not that she was giving anything away. Perhaps there would be a time when Kin could ask her.
These thoughts faded, however, when Arielle spoke again. To her. Kin couldn't deny the surprise that came--Arielle was clearly frigid and Kin figured she would never be deemed worthy to speak to (as if she cared). Even so, the archaic words were given, and they spoke volumes. Kin met Arielle's eyes, and after a moment's study, she smiled again, rage slipping away. A holier-than-thou attitude, a love of books and knowledge--hell, the superiority complex was more than enough to convince her. With an amused tone, she murmured, "Some thing's never change, eh?" In a quieter tone she added, "Athena." That's it, then. Everything's going to change now, Kinara relected, if we're going to be more open about who we are. Or rather, who we were. Footsteps made her turn her head at yet another girl, holding a stack of books, who passed them by. Who... "Hello, hi, I'm Tatiana," came a loud, accented voice from behind them. Kin turned her head again, and took in the drop-dead gorgeous figure. Physically, she smiled a welcoming smile. Mentally, she winced. The newcomer was easier to place than Arielle. The vanity practically oozed off of her. Oh good God, she thought. The goddess of love's in the house. |

Kinara smiled at Danny's antics. He was so cute! None of the kids she'd gone to school with had been this easygoing. Then again, none of them had burst into flame upon human contact, either.
As the tour got underway again, Kin kept darting glances at the boy out of the corner of her eye. The fire incident had made her curious. Obviously he couldn't control it perfectly, otherwise, he wouldn't have used it at all. Had it been her touch specifically that had set it off, or just random chance? She wondered... And stopped, her entire body tensing. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up. Someone...somewhere...was watching them. Hunting them. The phrase came, unbidden, to her mind, and Kin looked up, face averted from the group. If anyone had looked into her green eyes right now, they would have seen a blaze of fury. No one hunted her. But there was no one in sight. She heard nothing, felt nothing except the fact that someone was watching them. And then not. The feeling went away, and she thought, maybe, straining to hear, that she heard the click of high heels walking away. But the sound was so distant, and she knew she would never have heard it if she was not what she was. A soft sigh escaped her lips. Schooling her face into a passive mask, she started forward again. The only things that betrayed her hidden emotions was the white-knuckled grip on her bow-case, and a smoldering anger in her eyes. |

Kinara mentally shook her head at the lie, but understood why Danny would say such a thing. No one wanted to be regarded as a freak, never mind the company you happen to be in.
He's obviously a little behind on the fact that we're all...special, Kin thought. That was unfortunate. Someone would have to clue him in pretty fast...Like Destera did, and quite bluntly. The girl got a zero for people skills, and while the previously quiet girl had some valid points, her tone and haughty attitude made Kinara bristle. She knew it would not do to make an enemy of the girl, but she suddenly felt very defensive, even if the verbal attack hadn't been directed at her. Danny didn't deserve the attitude. "It makes sense why he would," she said, keeping her tone light. "Normal people don't randomly burst into flame. Normal people don't want to be near people who randomly burst into flame. So why wouldn't you try to hide the fact, regardless of present company?" She regarded Danny and shrugged. "I think normal is so boring, don't you?" |
