On the plus side, at least MLP doesn't shove too much heteronormativity down people's throats. Aside from a select few (Shining Armor & Cadence, Spike, Rarity, the Cakes, and any parents shown), sexuality hasn't really been mentioned, which is intentional on the part of the creators. And outside of MLP, there do seem to be more gay characters shown in television in less stereotypical roles...so there is some positive change happening.

I dunno why people get their panties in a twist about being gay.
It wasn't even that kind of meaning back in the bible, "Man will not lay with another man as one does a women" Was mearly saying that women back in those days were inferior to men. They were property, be it the father or the husband he owned the woman.
So it's not really telling you being homosexual is horrible and you shouldn't do it, but treat said man as another man, and not as a women. : u

A little hope my good sir?
Its only a matter of time before things DO change. You see the biggest advocates that are against it are those that where born and raised in a much stricter time. Unfortunately most of those people are in power, but as the newer generation comes about pushing the older one into their graves change will happen. Now the true problem I'd be worried about is our children (or well your future children if your a wee lad or lassy.) See children don't know allot about the world, and so they heavily rely on the experience and guidance of their elders (Parents, guardians, elder brother, sisters anyone that is generally older and they look up too as a role model). What they in turn they teach a child the child accepts and grow ups believing that, that is simply the way of the world. If a child is grown up taught to hate a certain group, than they will hate it, for that's all they've been taught.
If you teach them tolerance, acceptance, equality, compassion, and empathy than the world will be better off if we all taught the next generation those traits, but sadly not many will.

Tl;dr
Short story: Teach your kids/little siblings tolerance, and acceptance. And the world will be all the better for it.
