A quick question concerning Alicorn OC's.

I've asked this before, but I never really got a clear enough answer...

I would like to know all of your feelings concerning Alicorn OC's that people have created?

Before, I wasn't really against them, thinking that some people can get pretty creative with them.

But, the more I roleplayed, and look at other people's Alicorn OC's, the more I started to get a strong disliking of most of them.

For one thing, most of them don't really seem to have any purpose aside of trying to look Regal. And, their creators pretty much play them that way. In many cases before, in roleplays where I am basically forced to dwell in made-up alicorn kingdoms, their Princesses only walk around and respond to ponies who are gawking at their beauty or something. Three times, I have tried to involve them in some actual plot by having Blanks (Pony version of skeletal zombies) or another threat approach their kingdom, and NONE of those times did the alicorns ever respond. They just continued greeting the ponies that approached them to say how beautiful they are.

I know there are some really creative Alicorns out there, but for the most part, most bronies and pegasisters probably don't know about them enough to properly roleplay as them, and the responsibilities they take on. At least, that's how I feel about them, by the experiences I've seen.

How about all of you? Had any experiences with Alicorn OC's that made a positive, or negative impact?

I don't think MLP is interesting enough to roleplay, so I have no say there. But outside of roleplaying I see no harm in them.

Yeah I usually don't like people having Alicorns for OC's. Had a friend that thought their Alicorn was the "great all mighty" and nothing was going to stop them >.<

As an artist, I do enjoy drawing them as they're very pretty.
But I'd imagine they're mostly Mary Sues and I don't think I would ever want to RP with them.

Dragon, and other races, I honestly have no problems with, to be honest. The alicorn you seem to be describing sounds a bit more creative than most that I've run into, but I guess that all depends on how the creator plays them out like.

Why do you call your OC a merpony?

They are canonically called Seaponies
in the MLP universe, so I thought that
was a little odd. Either way, it's an excellent
choice for an Rp character, because we
haven't seen a new introduction to them in
this generation. The possibilities for them
are wide open. <3

I don't have a problem with people just drawing alicorns...but RPing with alicorns? That's almost as bad as creating a Mary Sue...

Most artists like making their own winged unicorns because they are fun to draw. I myself have an unoriginal "alicorn" named Cloudia (GEDDIT. CAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE "CLAUDIA" AND HER THEME IS CLOUDS! *shot*)

Personally, I actually don't care if people roleplay Alicorn OCs. I have no problems with a fictional character of someone's imagination. It's usually the Suethors themselves I cannot stand. They don't do anything creative with their alicorn (********. THERE'S SO MANY HEADCANONS WITH THEM. PLAY WITH IT. PLAY WITH THEEEEEEEEEEM.), or they get raging mad and become immature if other people don't like their characters.

I find it hard to actually label ANY pony a "Mary Sue" when the show itself is a little kid's show, so pretty much any and all ponies in the show could be considered "Mary Sue" (Especially Twilight. If she wasn't a character and someone's OC, they would just SCREAM Sue, wouldn't they?). It's like calling a Sailor Moon OC a Mary Sue, because...they all are.

So, the point of my post;
I don't give a flippin' crap about alicorn OCs. It's usually their creators I don't like.

I'm sure an alicorn oc would be fine if put into somebody who is capable to make an interesting character of them. But so far I've not really seen that. I've seen ones that just want to be royalty, or have better powers or are just indecisive people who couldn't choose between a unicorn or a pegasus. I mean if you are going to have one, the least you could do is come up with a plausible story of where it came from.

at this point I have found nothing to like about them.

Well, technically speaking, she's not even a seapony, seeing that she's not from the sea. xD

She's actually from a lake deep in the Everfree forest. Her race was an ancient pony race lead by 5 unicorns who tried to live off the dangerous land in Everfree forest. But, after trying to cast a spell to control the weather, it backfired and flooded their whole city, creating a lake. The unicorns managed to cast a spell to save the ponies trapped in the city, but at the cost that they cannot breath the air again. After centuries of evolution, the ponies became Merponies. *or kelpies, I dunno the proper term.* At least, that's my interpretation of it. xD

Oh I'm pretty sure you can make a pony a Mary Sue. Like if its 20 different markings with rainbow stripes and wears like 40 different accessories, with brand names and s**t (bonus points if half the accessories or more are also rainbows), with ridiculous scene hair and has like a tragic backstory where their parents are killed by a half pony half dragon serial murderer and now they cope with the pain by cutting themselves but they are loved by everypony and their boyfriend is Big Mac and they are actually a secret alicorn that is being corrupted by darkness and are the long lost cousin to Celestia and Luna... :I Then you got a Mary Sue XD
