since this is the music forum,
i was wondering if anyone knows
what is a good beginners guitar...
not something too cheap..and not too expensive
also:
what do you look for when you are buying an electric guitar?
What do you need to make sure someone knows before buying an electric guitar?

Thank you ^_^

If it's a beginner guitar I wouldn't worry too much about quality, since you're just learning on it. My first was a generic brand $50 one.

Well it really depends what you're gonna play.
pawn shops all the way. i just got a brand new squier p-bass for $130 and a like-new fender frontman 150g guitar amp for $30.
A squire strat is a good start. The strat necks are pretty thin, so they're very comfortable to play.

quality doesn't really matter for you're first. However, though Fender is my favorite brand (I have a heavily modified Stratocaster, a Jim Root Strat (slipknot guitarist), and a P-Bass), it matters what kind of music you want to play. Metal? well, unless you are willing to spend 2100$ for the Jim Root Strat, no, you should not go with fender. That case I would go for an Ibanez (first guitar, so... my opinion of most ibanez's are not that high) Straight up rock? Fender all the way. The Squire will suit you great, seymour duncans have a good range. Blues? well, i would say gibson, and from there Epiphone, but truly, Epiphones are not like their higher end pairs. My Gibson Traditional plays everything well, from Eric Clapton to Led Zepplin to Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Muse. But Epiphones dont have the range, so I wouldn't go for it. So probably the Squire is you're best bet.

Lots of things to think about on a guitar when buying (for you're more professional, if you continue) how does it play? is the action of the guitar good? standard or wide fret neck for the size of you're hand.

you need to make sure the fretboard is straight; if they are made in China, India, Mexico, the factories use wood that is still ripe, which can and will bend in time. Then you will have to adjust the neck.

Make sure it stays in tune. I was at a local guitar shop in honolulu and i had to tune the strings to play them. I started playing, and within minutes, it began to detune. In this case, no go. yeah about that make sure you play the guitar before you're purchase. Buying a guitar and then finding out it does not suit you is a shame.

i guess string height and action. you will develop strength in you're fingers over time, but until then and afterwards, you will need to find the appropriate guitars. don't worry, you can by new nuts and adjust the bridge in the future for the string height and action.

make sure that before you buy the guitar you give it a thourough look. if there are cracks, if there are crookednesses in the guitar, see if they have another in stock.

remember if you like good deals and go for used guitars, you always take a chance. make sure you can send the guitar back for a refund if it doesn't meet you're expectations.

check the guitar knobs, cus in time dust gets in and the pots need changing. I don't know much about this, but it is an issue. the selectors are the same. go back and forth, check all the pickups.

play all notes, and check for buzzing. if there is, you can adjust the bridge.

tremolos, like on squires, tend to detune the guitar. don't get pissed or anything.it pulls on the strings and makes them ever so longer, lowering the pitch.

make sure the tuning keys are tight. You don't want you're strings detuning while you playing for an audience!

I own my Fender guitars and basses, a Gibson Traditional, a Schecter Hellcat, Takimenie acoustic, a Hose Ramerez Classical, and a Yamaha classical (first guitar). Also a 12string german guitar and a fender ukelele.

Have fun plyaing guitar!

Peavey EXP low end guitars (sub-150 dollars)

Used Washburn beginner guitars with a set neck (sub 100 dollars)

Squier Stagemasters and Showmaster with a hardtail bridge (usually less than 100 dollars)

Anything in the Ibanez GIO line will work very well for you. They actually just released a new set at Winter NAMM that had quilted maple tops for like 150 bucks.

Kramer has also released a lot of cheaper models recently that play very very nicely. You can pick up a Baretta Special for less than 200 dollars and they play just as well as most standard bridges in the 4-500 dollar range.
Some quality beginner - price guitars at a music shop could be the Squier Classic Vibe, or the Epiphone Special II.
Pawn Shops are sometimes a good thing - but they try to overprice a lot of awful guitars.
Try going to a local music store and just asking the employees. Whether or not they're paid commission, they should still be fairly helpful as long as they're not a bunch of jerks.
Good luck, and happy playing! Remember that what matters more is that you're having fun playing, not how cool your guitar looks or sounds.
