I have a massive instrument, it's a type flute that's made out of a fleshy substance. However, there are some made out of rubber, plastic, and in some instances metal, but I heard they're not as good.

I've got two of those.

ARE YOU GEORGE WASHINTON !?

I play the double bass. It's freakin' huge and I hate carrying it. The most thing I hate is that WE always DON'T get the melody part.

That's the great thing about low woodwinds: they can actually be heard and not just felt by the audience and are thus more commonly given melodies.

Feeling it is just as important, listen to the music of Pirates of the Caribbean (love it or hate it, it doesn't matter) if the contra bassoon (a feel it not hear it instrument) were taken out, the song would sound terrible, also the sarusaphone in Graingers original version of childrens march

When a song hinges so much on one instrument, it's not that good in respects other than how it sounds.

Same here. Love playing it, hate having to lug it everywhere because for some reason, when I have to play bass I have to move it around ALL over the place. When I get a violin part, I'm usually stuck in one spot.

Bass gets the melody, you just have to either play the beginner songs where everyone plays the same melody, or you get to the really advanced stuff (especially when you're not playing a full symphony, and working with the minimal five part orchestra). I got to play a lot of melodies when I got to play pro-level stuff in an orchestra and actually had some solid double bass solos. Have you ever listened to an orchestra without the bass? It's just plain lacking, like it's not complete. How I feel whenever I hear a full symphony piece played with just an orchestra is this empty feeling of something missing.

If you're really bored being the orchestra's beef though, you can always do solo work. The shifting is a real pain in the a** though.

I play tuba and in my marching band I play on a contrabass. They're pretty beastly. I have to say I like it a lot more than I ever liked playing flute. I've been told that if we ever have a base flute solo I'd be the #1 pick and I'd probably just do it for the experience. Low instruments are in my opinion the best ever

The lower, the better. I started with piano, then picked up clarinet on the side, switched to bass clarinet from clarinet and started baritone sax alongside the other instruments I play.

hah. okay So I'm a flute player. The only wind instruments I have ever played before was flute, clarinet and saxphone. I am pretty good at these intruments. A few days ago I was in a band room and I decided to play one of the trumets. and i could barely make a sound out of it! my tone was so shakey it was disgusting. and I also tried trombone and baritone. I find holding the trombone hard (I am very petite) Baritone was kind of easy. I had good tone but I can't really do overtones.

I learned that I just kind of suck in general with brass. But I am amazing at woodwinds.

Pshhhh!!!! I played flute for 3 years and switched to tuba for marching band!!! Anyone sounds gross from the starting point. But yeah it is really easy to suck at brass. It takes a lot of practice. But that beautiful low sound is soooo worth it!
