i have a question about the distortion on my guitar though. i like my sound but when i do softer songs like these im not sure how to get a more mellow but still powerful sound out of my guitar/amp.

im using a les paul bodied guitar with humbuckers on them (idk the specs. because its a one of a kind antoniotsai guitar)

then the signal goes through a powerstack at about 5 min above the lowest setting (to kind of warm up the sound) and then into a metalzone at about 11.

i tried warming up the signal, but it still sounds kind of... shrill?

so what should i do? fiddle with the levels on the pedals? edit eq? leave it to the computer eq?

other suggestions?

btw an example of what i like in guitar tone would be mikko lindestrom. very versatile guitar tones used throughout his career.
oh and my acoustic

and my bass
I liked it. But the middle part it was hard to hear your voice. The drums and the guitars seemed louder. I also liked the solo at 3:25 it was awesome.
The opening and closing were great - the guitar work was really great, and the guitar solo midway through was also great. I have to say, I'm not a fan of all of the distortion on the voice though. You set it up as a very 'clean' song, and all the distortion in the middle, in my humble opinion, doesn't really mix well with it. Distortion is nice and all, but using so much of it just makes everything sound muddy. The music and instrumentation and harmony and all that are fine, but I feel like all that distortion detracts from the song as a whole.

Have you tried any overdrive pedals? The Tube Screamer or boutique clones of that pedal) are one of the most popular overdrive pedals, but there are many out there. adjusting yr pickup hieght can help a little, but not too much. The Metal Zone and other metal distortion pedals) tend to be somewhat stale and not offer much in the way of flexibility in response to pick attack and other inflections in ones playing style. The best thing you can do is try as many pedals as you possibly can until you find something that fits.

I hope I helped some. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

i used to have a vox saturater but it stopped working. my amp also has overdrive and i have a ds-1

the only problem is, is that i feel like the sound is too low eq. which makes sense from a physics standpoint regarding the definition of distortion. but is there anyway to get that without having such low eq or do i just have to get something like the boss eq pedal to run the overdriven signal?

park amp (division of marshal) 25 watt

User Image
DS-1: drive at the lowest setting with tone at about 3:00

User Image
ST-2: Drive about 5 min above lowest setting, treble at 3:00. Bass at 12:00

User Image
MT-2: Drive at about 11:30. highs at about 2:55. Middle at 2:00. Mid Freq. at 4:30. lows at 4:00
First and foremost: Turn the treble down a bit, the bass to about 12 o'clock and the mids way up.
If you turn the gain down on the amp, it will become a little more transparent, which sounds to me like what you are looking for. I'd also toss the DS-1's distortion to about 2 o'clock.

Now, I haven't the faintest clue what the ******** that power-stack pedal is for, but that metal zone is a piece of garbage that you should replace as soon as possible.

ill try that in the morning

oh and i only use the clean channel on the amp. but i might try the overdrive on it and tell you how it goes

the power stack sounds nice and crispy for quieter and softer music example>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP1srvh5XnA

as for the metal zone, i personally still like it for when i play metal. its a very cold and i guess "metallic" sounding distortion especially when you run the ds-1 behind it. kinda reminds me of the legendary pokemon "regice"

thanks for the advice ill post again to tell you how it goes
