Anyone have a free and effective way to convert PDF files to MIDI format?

I don't know much about MIDI but i don't think it works that way...

It can be done. Sheet Music is rather easy to read if it's done well, and there are programs that can convert sheets in PDFs, scan them, and convert it to midi. My friend does it with the program "PDFtoMusic", but I don't have the money to buy it :/
