This Thread is devoted to the band Known as "Coheed and Cambria". This band brings something new to the table of Progressive rock, they bring hardcore riffs, helium powered vocals, orchestrated masterpieces, and spine chilling music that makes you set your radio to repeat and listen to them for months at a time. Not only do they sound awesome but they also include a concept into the albums they release. The concept spans over 5 different albums and it tells the tale of a man and his wife. I have set up a post explaining the story so far.
So Please, kick back, relax, jam some Heed' and enjoy what lays forth. Your about to enter the strange and chilling world of Coheed and Cambria.

I encourage everyone who comes to this thread to discuss ANYTHING Coheed, or band related like group projects, concepts, lyics, songs..theories, upcoming shows and concert meet ups, etc etc. Hope you all enjoy this

Rules and Guidelines

1. There will be no flaming in this thread.
Its okay to post your opinion on the band, negative or not, but when you go overboard by such lines as "the band blows and the singer should be shot in the throat" then you have gone overboard....and I will hate you forever.
2. Please do not spam in this thread
Spamming is just annoying. Don't do it. You'll just find yourself in trouble....this includes BUMPING!!!
3. Do not stretch the thread
Thats once again just annoying and slows all us people up who use dial up. So PLEASE dont stretch the page...and no quote pyramids. Keep it at bout 3-4 quotes if you must.
4. I WILL NOT TOLERATE ALBUM LEAKS
Support the band....

Don't forget to "subscribe to this Thread!!!" I hope you all enjoy!!!

COHEED AND CAMBRIA

NO WORLD FOR TOMORROW

It would be hard to find a band with grander artistic scope than Coheed and Cambria. Over the course of six years and four groundbreaking albums, the New York foursome (Claudio Sanchez – vocals, guitar; Travis Stever – guitar; Michael Todd – bass; Chris Pennie – drums) has diligently developed a unique sound combining forward-thinking classic rock with strong pop sensibilities and intricate musicianship. Simultaneously, through his lyrics and comics, Sanchez has created a celebrated epic alternate universe called The Amory Wars, in which lies an ongoing conceptual tale that gains depth and complexity with each and every record.

With the band's latest creation, the euphoric No World For Tomorrow, we arrive at the final chapter in the saga of Claudio Kilgannon, the story's main character, who is out to avenge the death of his parents (Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon). While the story is set to reach its destructive end with NWFT, the band reveals their next album will be a prequel to the saga.

Concept aside, the latest offering is Sanchez's and the band's most personal document yet, with various emotionally charged events of the last year dictating the direction of the writing process. In addition, the band recruited Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Stone Sour) to produce the record while rock guru Rick Rubin played a role as the band’s A&R. The result is the most brilliant culmination of Coheed and Cambria's musical and literary vision to date.

Formed in 2001, Coheed and Cambria came storming out of the indie-rock gates with the release of their first album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, on Equal Vision Records. Endless touring and progressive, hook-laden songs like "Delirium Trigger" and "Devil in Jersey City" led to the rapid development of the band's early fan base.

The follow-up, 2003's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, was certified RIAA gold on the strength of the group's ongoing intense touring schedule and the hit singles "Blood Red Summer" and "A Favor House Atlantic." The band emerged as a tour de force, embraced not only by their now fanatical fans, but also by radio, press and MTV.

2005's Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness, the band's first for Columbia Records, reached #7 on the Billboard Top 200. It was also a critical juggernaut, being named one of the "Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time" by Guitar World, while Rock Sound awarded it "Album of the Year." Coheed's knack for writing indelible songs, such as "Welcome Home," and "The Suffering" combined with monolithically powerful album tracks and the band's heavy follow through, secured their status as a massive live draw and presence around the world.

However, the wheels were falling off the wagon.

Fitting its title, No World For Tomorrow was born out of huge uncertainty. June, 2006 saw the departure of half the band; drummer Josh Eppard and bassist Michael Todd left under somewhat cloudy circumstances. "A lot of what this record is about has to do with the events of the past two years." quipped Sanchez. "It got to the point where Travis and I thought there might not be a tomorrow for Coheed as a band."

Deep in turmoil and unsure of the future, Sanchez and Stever decided to keep the band together and make a new record. Fortunately, by the time they were ready to go into the studio, bassist Todd rejoined and Raskulinecz helped secure Foo Fighter Taylor Hawkins to play drums on NWFT. "Taylor was a creative and powerful force in the studio," remarked Sanchez. "His amazing personality was the positive reinforcement we needed to see this vision through."

Nietzsche's line, "That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger," seems like it could have been coined for this situation.... After everything Sanchez, Stever and Todd have been through, they could have packed it in… instead, they delivered the album of their lives.

Musically, on NWFT, Sanchez's evolution as a songwriter is glowingly apparent, with both him and Stever showing more confidence and experimentation in terms of the writing process and opening up to a wide range of instrumentation. For the first time, Sanchez found himself composing songs -- "Mother Superior" and "On the Brink" -- on piano instead of guitar, while tracks like "The Hound (of Blood and Rank)" were written on a vintage Wurlitzer organ. "'The Hound' started with me writing on a Wurlitzer, but ended up being really guitar heavy. I don't think we would have been able to write some of these guitar riffs without using the keyboard as a foundation," Sanchez explains. "We wouldn't have done that in the past."

The first single, "The Running Free," twists and turns through breakneck rhythmic changes and hooky melodic sections with heavy single-note guitar-riffing under Sanchez's signature "Oh-oh-ohs." Another key track, "Feathers," is prime example of the band's collaborative maturity (and easily the band's catchiest song to date). This spirit runs even deeper on the album's straight-ahead rockers like "Gravemakers & Gunslingers," the sonic mind-melt of "The End Complete," and the album's proggy, jam-heavy finale, "On The Brink."

Lyrically, NWFT possesses a poetic vulnerability coming from Sanchez, for the first time allowing his personal life to infiltrate the band's creative process. A powerful example is "Justice in Murder," a song inspired by Sanchez's Aunt Antonia, who last year passed away from the tragic disease of Alzheimer's. Antonia Cristiano was a psychologist who played an essential role early in the band's career- counseling them when they were experiencing deep growing pains and literally keeping them from breaking up in 2002. No World for Tomorrow is dedicated to her memory.

Of course, for a band with such mythology, musical diversity and depth; visuals are never taken lightly. The imagery for NWFT was hand painted in oils by legendary fantasy artist Ken Kelly, the man most recognized for creating the iconic KISS album covers Destroyer and Love Gun.

Since the completion of NWFT, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Chris Pennie has become an official member of Coheed and Cambria and has changed the outlook of a band that thought it was on the brink of a break up a mere seven months earlier. Sanchez reveals, "Josh leaving the band was quite a blow for us -- but having Taylor on the record, and now having Chris in the band full-time, has allowed us to progress in a way that is really exciting."

In line with this feeling of rejuvenation, and despite No World For Tomorrow's seemingly bleak title, Sanchez insists that in the end, the album is truly about hope and the ability to persevere in the face of adversity. "The album is called No World For Tomorrow, but in a way it's very uplifting… yes, it's the end of the story and everyone dies… but with every ending is a new beginning, and for Coheed, as a band, it hasn't felt this good in a long time."

The Concept Thus Far

In the Beginning

In the beginning, God created three species: Man, Mage, and Prise. They were placed in the universe known as Heaven’s Fence and allowed to live. The “Fence” was comprised of 78 planets aligned in a triangular form divided into 12 sectors. Each sector was given a capital planet with five additional planets (with the exception of sectors 7 and 12, which had eight follower planets). In order for the Fence to exist, a precise method of energy distribution was required to supply each planet with an equal amount of essential elements needed to sustain life. The Keywork itself is comprised the visible beams of light that connect every individual planet, supplied by the seven power star transformers, known as the Stars of Sirius. Sirius Amory, the namesake and chief astronomer of the Stars, discovered that the Stars could produce the essential elements needed to harbor life among the planets and ensure their immobility (provided it allowed them to orbit around the beam).

When God placed all three species in Heaven’s Fence and allowed them to live, he left them with specific rules. Prise would watch over the Mages, and Mages would govern over Man. This way, all could leave peacefully and harmoniously for all time. Should the balance be interrupted, it was the Prise’s responsibility to restore order. He left a riddle to be followed by the Prise:

“If man should decide to dabble in my affairs, then guardian must intervene. But, should I come forth to change the face of Man with you there to challenge me, then I shall return with the Stars to destroy all I have made. Whether Man or I present that danger will not be told in the coming.”

Over time, Mages became greedy and restless. Wilhelm Ryan, one of the twelve Mages sent to govern with compassion and justness, decided to overthrow his fellow Mages and take over their sectors. He ordered Mayo Detinwolf, future Head General of the URA, to occupy the neighboring territory and overthrow the leader, Mage Covent Marth. Immediately Marth and fellow Mages demanded Ryan withdraw his forces, but Ryan then executed Marth and thus began the War of the Mages. At war’s end, Ryan was in control of all three sectors and was hence forth known as Supreme Tri-Mage Ryan. Ryan enslaved Man to do his bidding, creating the United Red Army which he used to inflict a tyrannical rule over the entire Keywork. He used Man not only for labor in life, but as fuel for the Keywork in death by trapping their souls in the Stars. In creating the URA, Ryan appointed his cyborg body guard Mayo Detinwolf as Head General, and captures the 8 remaining Mages and turned them into Onstantine Priests. Described as mindless and blood thirsty, the Priests are Ryan’s merciless executioners.

After years under Ryan’s ruthless iron fist, one of Man’s greatest scientists, Dr. Leonard Hohenberger, devised a plan. With the blessings of neither Mage nor Prise, Dr. Hohenberger worked in secret to create the first IRO-bots. Officially known as Interceptive Recon Operative Bots, they are cyborg like beings that act, feel, and think as humans, but posess super-human abilities. He created a team known as the K.B.I., comprised of Cambria (Knowledge), Coheed (Beast), and Jesse (Inferno). Each with their own talents, they were implanted with the mission of removing Ryan from power. Before he could exact his plan on Supreme Tri-Mage Ryan Wilhelm, Dr. Hohenberger was framed by accusations of ties with a terrorist organization, “Aetna Six,” the doctor was assassinated. Before his death, he implanted new memories into Coheed and Cambria and sent them into hiding. The doctor left Jesse untouched and told him to disappear, presumably in hopes to one day complete their task.

Years passed, and hopes for an answer to Ryan’s regime began to fade. The Prise stirred with unrest, as they began to feel they had failed God and that the riddle they were left with would soon be realized. However, within Sector 12, on the capital planet Paris: Earth, a secret to Man’s oppressors began to rise. Mariah Antillarea, a Mage believed to be born through Immaculate Conception, is believed by her followers to be the solution to Ryan’s evil tyranny. Followers who refer to her as “The Messiah”, mark between their thumb and index finger, on the web of their hands, with an “M” with two lines drawn diagonally across it, to show they were members of Mariah’s Rebellion. A breath of hope spreads through the race of Man, and soon Mariah has a Rebel Army to fight against the URA. Thus marks the beginning of a whole new war.

Travis Stever's Davenport Cabinet

The Davenport Brothers were American magicians in the late 1800s. The Davenports began performing in 1854 and many people were led to believe that the Davenports were possessed by real spiritual powers. The Davenports most famous effect was known as the box illusion. The trick would start with the brothers tied up and closed inside a large cabinet containing numerous musical instruments. Once the cabinet was closed, the instruments would begin to make sounds as if they were being played by the brothers. Upon opening the cabinet, the brothers were found tied in the same positions in which they had started the illusion. Those who witnessed the effect were made to believe that the magicians had channeled spirits to play the instruments.

I have a little room in my house in upstate New York. This is where i record all my ideas whether it be coheed guitar ideas or the songs you hear on this page. It is by no means a full blown studio. I have lots of stringed instruments to play but when it comes to recording equipment i don't have much. I use a digital 16 track, a shitty microphone, and digital v drums for the beats. The point of me telling you about this room is that when no one is in there my wife and many of our guests hear footsteps and other random noises. Sometimes with the squeaks and crackles from the empty room you can hear the strings vibrate as if someone was trying to play one of the instruments. It is probably just the house settling. But it still just made me think. Maybe i have my very own Davenport Cabinet.

1. Square One
2. Nostalgia In Stereo

5. Wrecking Ball

COHEED AND CAMBRIA FRONTMAN UNLEASHES “KILL AUDIO” ON THE WORLD.

Claudio Sanchez, singer/guitarist for the mega rock group Coheed and Cambria has long been a comic book author, now he can add “Toy Creator” to his resume.

Kill Audio, a 7 1/2” self-caricature vinyl toy, is the newest arrival from Sanchez’s Evil Ink Comics/VinylCut Toys.

The toy began as an online comic strip earlier this year that follows the antics of lead character, Kill Audio, a humorous, immortal little troll who seeks his purpose in life. Supported by his wildly eccentric posse, (including his nemesis/friend ‘Fix-ler,’ who constantly challenges Kill Audio’s immortality with futile murder attempts,) Kill Audio traipses across a hip, musical landscape full of hilarious events, resulting in what sometimes feels like Ralph Bakshi’s adaptation of the Wizard of Oz meets Fat Albert.

Asked how the whole idea came about, Sanchez explains “The idea for the doll actually came first. I wanted to do a ‘likeness doll’, but not just a doll with a guitar in his hand. It had to have more personality and stand alone as a vinyl figure,” Sanchez continued. “I played around with the name Kill Audio and ended up with a character who is not only being constantly killed himself, but later in the story finds hidden meaning in his namesake. The whole idea just snowballed from there. I couldn’t be happier with the way it came together.” The story will continue as a print comic book in 2009.

The November official debut of the toy will mark the first in a series of Kill Audio’s near-death predicaments – in this round, he has been attacked by angry knives – and will be available in a “Bloody version” and gore-free “non-Bloody version.” Kill Audio will be distributed by DKE Toys Distribution and cost around $40.

Prequel Album article from MTV

In a short interview with MTV, Claudio hinted that he has a working title for the forthcoming album and reveled that the album could be ready “in a year or so.”

From MTV.com

Blame it on George Lucas: Just when you thought the saga was over, Coheed and Cambria are coming back with more. And this time, it’s an origin story.

Thanks to singer Claudio Sanchez’s work on the band’s albums-translated-as-comics-series “The Amory Wars,” Coheed and Cambria have been inspired to do a “prequel” album of sorts. (Learn more about the comic series from Sanchez himself on our Splash Page blog.) The LP will be about, well, Coheed and Cambria — as in the characters throughout the science-fiction mythology explored on the band’s four albums thus far — only this time, it might make sense.

“So far, it’s just songs,” Sanchez said. “It’s actually been a lot of fun. I’ve just been working on what it’s about and sending it to [drummer] Chris [Pennie] on the Internet. Everything’s very rough right now, but it’s sounding pretty cool.”

Sanchez has a working title for the album — which he refuses to reveal, since he doesn’t want to be held to it just yet. “I get a lot of that,” he said. “People will be like, ‘But you said this.’ Sorry.” But if fans need to call it something, he said, “Amory Wars Prequel” will do for now.

The band is in the early stages of creating the prequel, a long way from recording any songs, but Sanchez estimates the album could be ready “in a year or so.”
