Mrs. Pink Eyes
I never really hear/see much about gothabilly anymore. A few years ago it was more popular, or maybe it's just me.

It was, in the 90's.

Deathrock is hitting a big revival right now, from what I've seen and heard.

I find that very odd. It went nearly 30 years with hardly anybody even knowing what it was. I think a lot of people are getting really tired of going to "goth" clubs and hearing nothing but oontz oontz music.

Yeah, it's a blacklash to oontz, to say. Also goths have gotten more into deathrock because it's still pretty much a mystery to the mainstream media [Getting away from the whole goth image?]

Plus, I don't know many deathrockers that think twice about saying they're a deathrocker. Yet with goths, it's different. That's my view on things, so it might not just be right.

Though to some point deathrock has always been 'trendy' clothing wise. I feel fashion trends in deathrock 'culture' change every year. Though, most deathrockers aren't assholes if you don't look like the perfect deathrocker.

That's definetly part of it. The market has become over-saturated with "neo-goth" groups, as they call themselves. "Neo-goth" only really meaning "generic synth-pop and EBM artists who wear goth make-up".
I'm pretty sure deathrock is just a fad amoung the goths. It sounds really ignorant, but it's true to an extent. Batcave bands got friggin' nailed to their crosses when bands like the sisters of mercy, the chameleons uk, etc. came around. Maybe the 4th or 5th genereation will go back into the old school bauhaus, siouxsie, joy division style. I already know many bands using joy division's style.

DEATHROCK IS LIKE JESUS.

It died, then it came back to life. :]

Deathrock very well may be a fad, but musically and culturally, goth has always been more fad based than most would admit.

I suspect we'll move into deathrock for a few years (largely thanks to revival artists like Dinah Cancer, who ofcourse was there at the beginning with .45 Grave), and gradually mellow out back into first-wave style goth-rock. Hell, some first-wave goth and post-punk revivalists are already around; look at Golden Apes.

Yeah. It's bound to happen. Even though we're both calling deathrock a fad to some extent, that still doesn't discredit deathrock at all in my opinion. Since most music is based on fads and such.

Deathrock is still great, yeah.

My point was that all music is fad based, as you suggested.

Whether or not something is a fad has no affect on whether or not it's good.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. xD

The post-punk revival thing is pretty big now too, what with bands like The Prids, Feeding Fingers and Entertainme.nt around.
I feel sad, because I don't know what anyone's talking about. blaugh

What's oontz oontz or whatever?

lol, and about that neo-goth thing, I've heard System of a Down being called neo-goth. I love them, but honestly they're not nearly goth. They don't even dress goth, so I don't get the confusion there.

I really need to get into the actual goth subculture, because you peoples are confusing me.

Anyway... I'm really getting into Christian Death. ^_^

But then I looked on wikipedia... and Rozz Williams' article scares me. Plus, my name is Christian. blaugh

EBM/Synth-pop stuff like VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk. Some of it is ok, but it's very repetitive and has all but taken over goth clubs because it's easy to dance to. It's like modern disco.

What part of the article? His death?
Naw, his death was fine. Mostly it was the part about Charles Manson.
His death just reminded me of Ian Curtis...

And, um... I can't say I'm not glad there's EBM in the clubs. :F I love EBM.

Still, I don't really think they should have that much in goth clubs. Stick to goth music. >_<

But yeah, EBM would be 20x easier to dance to.
