I was pulling for them since they were self producing and lost their record deal and lead singer, but on this new record they're worse than they were on AESTHETIC. The writing is a LOT less thought through and sounds as if they were only trying to make s**t rhyme. I get that they were under hard times, but that shouldn't have any effect on the quality of the lyrics or the style. They were getting more and more hardcore and this album is (at best) pop-punk.
JUST SO YOU KNOW: I AM A FFTL FAN. I'VE LISTENED TO ALL THEIR ALBUMS AND HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THEM SINCE THE BEGINNING AND I FEEL SERIOUSLY CHEATED BY THIS RECORD.
I know you guys will hate to hear it, but the band needed sonny. You can say that they were getting along fine without him before "Dear Diary" and that Matt is a good lead singer, but the only mildly popular record they put out was AESTHETIC and Matt didn't even sing lead on that record. Matts voice doesn't suit the position of lead singer. Sonny's voice is what brought the band insane popularity and basically became an identifying factor in the band's sound. Now, it's like they're completely different. It's almost like they didn't try. I appreciate the effort. But no cigar this time.
Whats so bad about it is that the members didnt realize amazing things were headed there way, it was just total bad timing when sonny left. After Heroine released, their popularity was EXPLODING, that album was their evidence to support the fact that they were something out of the ordinary with their creativity, and it was jaw dropping, and as you can see in the vid for "shame shame", the stage and audience size they were playing too was just pure display of their status. If theyd of just kept it together and still had sonny for the latest album, they wouldve been up there with MCR and Lincoln Park hands down.
