As a fan of (some) anime, I have encountered soundtracks I both like and dislike.

Honestly, like anime itself, the majority of music in anime is pretty ******** terrible. Most anime have shitty looping electronic tracks, generic synthesized sweeping-violin pieces, and some hipster "look, I'm just like Cowboy Bebop" jazz tracks. Even worse are the series which rely on "J-pop" for their base influence musically.

This isn't to say all anime have bad soundtracks. Though, generally, good soundtracks come with good anime. Boogiepop Phantom has an awesome scuzzy, noise-based OST. Famously, Cowboy Bebop has some pretty amazing jazz. Witch Hunter Robin had some truly great orchestral pieces, each song of which had an intense and distinct flavor. So on an so forth.

YES. The only anime song I don't like is the intro for Blood Plus, which is super annoying gonk

Anything on the Death Note soundtrack that's sung in Latin is simply amazing. I'd go so far as to say "Requiem" is the most beautiful piece I've ever heard in my life.

Not that I appreciate it being stuck in my head, mind you...

I've finalized my Death Note AMV for late January. Watch if you've got to at least Volume 7/Episode 25 - music and performance are credited to Oriana Cope, who is also a Gaia user.

i like the first two.
I think that Spirited Away has the best sountrack out of any anime film i've seen (which are pretty limited to Hayou Mayazaki's Studio Ghibli - anime get get can my nerves.)
Anyway, i love The Sixth Station. It's lovely.

Everything that Joe Hisaishi's done is awesome. The score for Howl's Moving Castle is excellent as well.

And I agree, "Lilium" is a hauntingly beautiful song. Too bad the ending theme for that show sucked so badly.
