Your all closeminded fools cunningham is one of the best wiccan authors there are, just because it doesent match in with your secret club you call wicca and the only wicca, doesnt mean its wrong. Thats like how baptists say that every other kind of christianity is wrong. Its just closeminded

Yeah, we are all so close minded that we think that Lucifer is a cool and dark name. Wait, didn't you get corrected on this? Children can't be Wiccan as that would be rape. Maybe you want some old dude ******** you and your friends, but I wouldn't want to see a young girl being used by an adult. Get over yourself and get the ******** out. Your opinion is worthless in M&R if not back up by some facts

To be fair, it's not really right to lump Cunningham in with Ravenwolf. While what he writes about isn't Wicca, it's still a valid path in it's own right, and he is fairly well regarded by the Wiccan community as far as I know.
Considering he's the guy that started the whole "if it feels good, do it" bulltripe, I'd say he's not to be admired.

Hmm, "Living Wicca" doesn't condone that, really. It goes on about how you can do ritual how you please but if it doesn't fit certain criteria, it's not a "Wiccan" ritual. (His example isn't either but at least he's setting limits.) It involves much more in the way of critical thinking than "Wicca, a Guide". Lots more "why are you doing this? what does this mean?" etc.

Unfortunately most people only seem to read the first one. And he's really big on that "love and light" crap. He's a big reason for fluffiness but I don't think he personally would have approved. Shame he's dead, really. Deborah Lipp is a fan of his (and a personal friend iirc) from what I've read of hers on Amber and Jet.... of course one initiate doesn't speak for "the Wiccan community" and many members dislike him.

We should take a poll!

Considering "Living" is the one where he spouts off a bunch of tripe about being able to "self-initiate" (stuff like, "You have the right to perform a self-initiation. No one can take this right from you." ), I don't really think we should be exhalting its praises as intellectually honest material.
Or is that just me? I dunno.

That's quite a feat for someone who's either not Wiccan or barely Wiccan (San, Nines, is he a first degree, I can't remember?)

Quote:
just because it doesent match in with your secret club
Not my secret club, I'm not Wiccan.

Quote:
you objective reality call wicca and the only wicca,
There, fixed it for you. Now this sentence reflects what I'm actually saying.

Quote:
doesnt mean its wrong.
Yes, you see, it is, because it's not based in fact at all.

Quote:
Thats like how baptists say that every other kind of christianity is wrong.
No, it's not, because Baptists are talking about subjective beliefs, with Wicca we are dealing with an objective orthopraxy.

Quote:
Its just closeminded
If by "closeminded" you mean "considers intellectual honesty to be of the utmost importance and refuses to let people get away with unfounded claims" then why yes, yes I am. And happy to be so.

According to Scorplett, Cunningham was a first degree, which still meant that he could not teach the Wicca, cause he wasn't trained/knew enough to teach the Wicca.

It is not comparable. Had you read the OP, you ought to have been able to figure this out. See, in Christianity, the requirements for being considered a Christian are very lax and being a Baptist is not one of them. However, according to the founder of the religion of Wicca, the standards for being considered a Wiccan are very exact.

Really, it is difficult to identify our differences and deal with them and address them when you fail to highlight exactly what it is you have issue with and why. Please, return to the OP and dissect it. What do you find is wrong with it? Show why it is wrong.

*Lax probably wasn't the best wording, but meh.

Whats the ISBN for your arse, and is it available on Amazon?

Doesn't have an ISBN I'm afraid, self printed and bound and all that, top quality hand-, or should I say arse-made stuff that. Unfortunately, he is not yet well known enough to be available on Amazon, but we both have high hopes in the near future. 3nodding

He was initiated, but afaik, he left shortly after taking first. Which in Gardnerian terms would mean he recieved little to no training as they initiate first, train later.

I thought of a question for you guys. I apologize in advance if this has been addressed already.

I know that in order to be a "real Wiccan" you have to be initiated into a coven, and have to be an adult and all that. My question is: What about children born into a Wiccan family? That is, children born to Wicca initiates. Do they teach these children in the ways of Wicca, or are the children just sort of ignored spiritually until they're old enough to make a decision if they want to join that religion?

I'm sure it probably depends on specific families, but the thought just struck me last night and it seemed like it would be something interesting to bring up.

I think it rather depends on the family. My experience has been that it's more likely a child will be raised pagan if both parents are pagan, rather than just one parent. And some pagan parents will choose not to raise their children pagan, fearing repercussions from school officials or other parents.

In any case, if the parents are Wiccan and do choose to teach their child anything, they are taught much in the same manner as a Seeker - outer-court, neo-pagan sort of stuff. They are not taught actual Wicca until such time as they are of age, and properly prepared and initiated.

This is a very delightful thread. Thanks for putting it up here. I would love to chat some more but I just got a huge headache. So I shall return later. Glad you clarified a lot of nonsense that I keep arguing with people about. *sigh* It's tiresome.
