However, here's a hypothetical question - if Gerald Gardener had declared this tradition to be Wicca, would that then make it Wicca, or is Gardener's say-so not enough?
It would have to be more than just "It's Wicca" for it to make much sense; since the religion is known as the Fertility Cult of the Lord and Lady of the Isles, for it to involve deities that were not the Lord and Lady of the Isles would seem to require substantial explanation (other than the "trivial case" of "they're all the same" soft polytheism). Mind you, that's simply my opinion based on the facts as they have been presented to me up to this point. Even the founder or charter contributor to a religion can go semi-Fluffy - just look at the Farrars.

as in Janet Farrars? if her and her husband are the pagan authors your discussing.... i have a friend who has met them

Honey so have most people who have been to any convention over the last 10 years in the usa and who have been at any of the more pulic events and conventions in Britian or who have been at Féile Driochta here in Ireland.
Hell Wing/Cú Chullain got hugs off Janet.

They are nice enough people other wise I would not have went and and had tea with them at thier's last August and was glad they liked my scones.

But again 'The Farrar's' as the couple who wrote the infamous 'A Witches Bible' or 'that book with that woman's tit's out it it, that means it is shrink wrapped' are no more with Steward passing into the Summerlands and
Janet marrying Gavin Bone later on.

but I was merely stating that I find them similar, not identical.

Which was the point of that reference in the excerise and that is the only way one can assume to try tie Wicca and shamanism, is that the practioners of magic of what ever ilk ( well other then CM rolleyes ) may used some of the same techinques and forfill some of the same functions in thier culture or socitey or for the good of thier tribe.

xStephanx It would not be Wicca just on anyones say so, even GBG.
There is a set of standards to which all BTW are held, (don't ask I am not going to go into them they are the concern of those who are Wicca)
and if it is it is and if it isn't it isn't a bit like the differece between art and porn to some people tits are tits but some can tell the difference.

Witchvox carries statements about all the BTW trads by thier own elders I would suggest you go and read them.

a virgin who was prayed to by midwives.

Thank you this gave me my first giggle of the morning.
Lets just have a little think about it... why would midwives be praying to a virgin godess who knows nothing about being pregnant and feeling life stiring wthin, the sounds of two heart beat in one body and nothing about the toils and dangerous of childbirth ?

Norse = from norway.

Bullshit.
Wikiwikiwiki
Norse is an adjective relating things to Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Sweden.

For someone claiming to know their own soil, you seem patently ignorant of it.
Duncan_the_Soulknight
While it is part of Scandinavia, it's not all of it. Just like wiccans are witches, but not all witches are wiccans. So either you just messed up your semantics, or you are just wrong.

Or, consequently, I know more than you do.

And the entire people were indeed vikings. It's part of elementary school here to read about it. I'm quite sure that I'm right here. Sure, they did farm the land, but that wasn't all they did.

Provide proof.

Duncan_the_Soulknight
And it is ignorant to call it Norse, just as it would be ignorant if I called all witches for Wiccans.

Only Norse refers to Scandinavian.
Norwegian refers to Norwegian.
Norwegian is a subset of Norse.

@ Deoridhe: I know that the Sami are different from them. That's why I was asking. I know quite a lot of Sami in person, and one of my teachers is one. Still, the difference isn't quite as large between a nojd and a sedhir as they are made out to be from what I see. Then again, that is merely my opinion.

Common goals often lead to common practices, especially if you're being given an overview of another's practices. *shrugs* And people who practice seidhr aren't called sedhir.

My guess is, based on my limited notion of Sami, that the worlds visited are very different. I know the Inca worlds are very different.

First: Yay! I found the new FAQ, now I can ask my questions again, as I am still very interested in BTW

Ok, so according to Kudzu's thread on Wicca it's up to each individual wiccan to determine their view on deity, is it possible that some one could meet the wiccan deities before iniation or training to start a relationship with them? I am asking as I was in a meditation the other day meeting a Goddess and God and they both said that their names would be revaled to me later on, once the time is right.

I think it's a bit of a jump from "they don't tell me their name" to "must be Wiccan" to be honest.

I didn't mean to say I thought they were. I was just wondering if it was possible that it could happen.

Many things are possible, if you are serious and of an age to pursue this and it is not a passing fancy then I would suggest that you have a look at joining

Yay - I found the FAQ. Score! xd

I even have a question! Okay so in the Rede it says: "When misfortune is enow, wear the star upon your brow." I was wondering what this means? Sorry if this is a foolish question, but hey - I have no way to learn if I don't ask questions right?

At a brief guess, may it be suggesting that the pentagram can be used/worn as a sort of "lucky charm" or ward against bad luck?

I agree with Deoridhe that this would be quite the assumption. However, whether one believes it would be "possible" might depend, in part, on one's deity model. If one believes that "all Gods are one God, all Goddesses are one Goddess and the God and Goddess are one," then people have already met Wiccan deities when they first hear of Jesus or any other deity for that matter.

I, however, am not of that opinion. I believe that the Wiccan Goddess and God are distinct entities and that one learns about them and how to serve them after Initiation. You already clarified that you did not jump to any conclusions about your deities' identities. For this reason, if I were in your position, I would respect the deities that I had met during the meditation for the distinct individuals they are, rather than potentially insulting them with the presumption that they are deities that you have not been properly introduced to and cannot properly serve at present. But, that's just my opinion. You could take an entirely different course of action depending upon your beliefs. smile As to my personal opinion of whether it's "possible," reality is a moot point these days. smile If they are the Wiccan deities, they could certainly provide you with enough proof to help you and any potential Initiators understand what's going on, if that is your path.
