Hola,
I'm doing a report on the bioethical topic of Embryonic Stem Cell Research (google it if you haven't heard of it), and was looking for opinions of various religious backgrounds and upbringings.
SO. If you could write your religious beliefs (eg. Catholic, Atheist, Agnostic, Buddhist, Jedi) and write your opinion on ESCR; whether you think it should be allowed, why/why not, certain exceptions, etc.

EDIT: I no longer need people in my survey, but I'd still like to read other opinions.

TL;DR Embryonic Stem Cell Research: yay or nay and why
I'll tip your post if you respond with a thought-inducing response so, yay, 25g!

FOR EXAMPLE: Catholic. See great benefit for it in the long term, however I'm not sure if it's worth it in the short term. There seems to be much more harm than help at the current time. - Natalie B.(Italics not necessary)

¡Hola!

Non-literal Theist. Think it should be allowed, because it has great potential for increasing quality of life and/or expanding our understanding. Only problem is a lack of transparency between institutions conducting the research and the general public. - John S.

That is an excellent perspective, thank you kindly for your input whee I asked in the GD just for more chance of a response, most of the replies are just anti-religion and a bit angry. Oh well biggrin

Agnostic, sure but why not use umbilical stem cells?, John D
Atheist. I see the benefits, and as long as the cell clusters are terminated before too long.

Atheist. It should be allowed. The sooner we work out a way to repair and regenerate neurological tissue, the sooner functional biological immortality can be achieved, allowing our terrible and eternal cyborg masters to tread across a ruined futurescape in their hellmachine bodies powered by the flesh of the unborn. And who could possibly object to that? Dashiell M.

Catholic and I agree. I'm more in favor of umbilical stem cells than I am of embryonic. Steph W
Heathen/Asatruar. I think it's great for both the sake of scientific progress and potential benefit to humanity. ~SGordon
I am irreligious and an atheist.
I say go go go. The benefits to actual living humans are massive, while the "drawbacks" (the "potential" for human life being destroyed) aren't actually real. So; only a fool would say otherwise.

as far as i can remember we can make stem cells out of bone cells and sperm cells out of skin cells or some stuff like that now, though it would perhaps take some time to convert them, i dont recall.

Deist. It would certainly help with a number of medical issues, I think; however, our current means of harnessing these stem cells and using them efficiently is quite faulty. G. Blair (I know it's an obvious pseudonym but my name is as obvious as a buffalo).
