No, I don't believe in God.
No so-called "sacred" text shown to me is sufficient proof. They were all a collection of mythologies before them, and were written by men, no matter what others say. I do not adhere to the teachings of any "higher being". I make my own choices, I decide what's right and wrong on my own, I live with my mistakes, I live my life the way I want, I choose my own destiny.
All religion has ever done throughout history has spread war and bigotry, and I do not wish to contribute to that by any means. I believe that if there truly were a higher being of any sort, the whole world would adhere to the same set of beliefs pertaining to this being.
From a scientific standpoint, I believe that if my body, as well as that of any living thing (be it animal, plant, bacteria, etc.) were the result of intelligent design, there would be no such thing as disease or injury, seeing as how we were created by a perfect being. Besides, I for one take pride in knowing that I am a being whose complexity took billions of years to develop naturally, rather than being created from the dirt, or whatever it is one may believe.
As we have seen, throughout history, countless times have people credited "miracles" for the things they cannot explain. Many of the things people could not explain in the past were eventually explained by science. To me, it seems that people always try to find an answer for something, but if they cannot make sense of it, "God" is always the fallback option, which everyone accepts without hesitation. As time progresses, science will show us how more and more things work, and before long, God doesn't explain s**t.
Ever since I was a small child, I wondered, "If God exists, why is there so much violence, disease, and poverty in the world?" I always thought that if God allowed this to happen, he either doesn't exist, or is some sort of tyrant, in which case, I wouldn't even think to worship him.
Finally, I stand firm in the belief that just as ancient religions such as Egyptian, Norse, and Greek Mythology were dismissed and are now regarded as literature, I believe that in time, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism and other modern religions will meet the same fate.
