But the question still stands. How can you NOT brainwash children under that definition?

Soundproof plastic bubbles. 3nodding

That are....uh....painted black, yeah. ninja

But, kids die when you do that...

Air holes dammit! All you need is a fork! ninja
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of it being "sound proof"? Sound can get in those little holes ya know?

Sound proofing isn't necessarily air tight, for instance the dimpled foam they put on the walls of some recording studios.

By either omitting all stances on political, social, or religious issues, or by supplying unbiased information for all possible stances within those categories.

This is the reason I don't want children: I don't think that there is any way to teach kids the philosophies without feeding them biased opinions.

That's not what I was talking about. Without the interaction kids just don't develop and die.

That was going to be my question. How could you find unbiased information on political, social, or religious stances?

Not necessarily. Given proper nutrition, they can live and just be severely and permanently developmentally stunted. They're just less likely to.
That doesnt make any sense. I would think how you were raised based on your parents preferences made who you are. There is no way to not "brainwash children". Unless we get rid of their indiviuality and go be a society like in The Giver

I would think that "You" make you who you are...but there I go being a metaphysical libertarian again.

Teach them to examine everything critically, and be open and honest about everything? Refuse to make important choices about ideals and beliefs for your child and them them come to their own conclusions?

My mother Never told me that there was indeed a God, Just that she believed in one. I was given every allowance to investigate all modes of religion and spirituality. In this regard, my mother avoided brainwashing me....though she may wish that I was catholic; I am not.
I agree that religion is brainwashing if the kid is not allowed to come his/her own conclusions. Its also brainwashing to tell kids to not believe in God. Both are the same thing in different ways.

Its also blind to follow science as absolute as it is to folllow religion as absolute, imo.
My girlfriend and I have very differing opinions. I am an agnostic Raidoka (believer in life (or to some people supernatural) energies which are the foundation of everything that goes on in our minds) and she is a devout atheist. Most people would say that by that token we do not have very different beliefs. However, I believe in both my "supernatural" religion and the teachings of modern science where she holds to a strong belief that religion and science are absolutely mutually exclusive. We are both UU's, though, so that reduces some of the conflict. We have finally agreed to disagree since our polite debates have gotten us absolutely nowhere. I believe that there is no way to prove or disprove spirituality, and she believes that it just wouldn't work. We almost have more friction on that basis than if I were a "real theist" and she were an atheist. I'm not really sure how we're going to teach our children. I suppose we'll just bring them up UU's... if we have children.

Is your girlfriend ignorant as to where some of the scientific theories came from and why? No offense, but really, that just seems sad to me.
Athiests make me so angry... They claim that Christians are the unreasonable ones who try to push their views on everyone but those hypocrites don't realize that they're the ones who are doing the pushing.

Personally I say faith before friendship as harsh as that sounds.
If you know a lot about your faith and if you really know what you're talking about, I'd say try to explain it to your friend first, if they still attack you then there's nothing you can do but tell your friend to knock it off.

I see what you mean. They possibly don't realize it, but they are the ones pushing, maybe not noticing it because they've been pushed for too long that they just instinctively copy the behavior? I know that most aren't like that, but maybe those who first become atheists sometimes tend to be that way.
I enjoy your view on things though. They are similiar to mine.
