Welcome to Gaia! ::

I went on a rant and initially posted this in the chatterbox but thought I'd give some legitimate effort on here.

Ever since I was introduced to alternative paths of paganism 7ish years ago, I went up hill and down hill, and learned many things....Several years ago a girl on this site basically shot me in the foot on everything I thought to be true. At the time I had no idea what a fluffy bunny was, but i had always wished I had someone to help me when I was studying instead of being insulted and starting at ground 0.

So those of you who are new to pathworking, good for you! I suggest you ask lots of questions. It can only do you good.

Those who have been doing this a while, remember to help those who are new and answer their questions. If you can't answer then inform them of that and go find the answer, because we are always learning.

I would like to see the pagan community continue to grow more knowledgeable and more respectable towards one another. As it stands now, what divides many of us is the many paths people take and trying to learn to work with one another when several strong voices want to smother the faiths of the weak.

In college now, because of drama of the previous pagan organization I broke off with my now best friend and started anew. I've learned many things since I started leading, and that is patience is a virtue and great benefits can be reaped if one person isn't leading the show and we are all working together in our pathworking. I hope more teachers come forth from tactics like this so boys and girls going through adolescence get help in person when everyone else in their life oppresses them.

What do you think we should do to help the pagan youth of the future?

Adult guidance. By that, I mean try looking up local Pagan societies. Where I'm from (UK), we have pagan groups that aren't path-specific where you can meet up, socialise, discuss and so forth aside from path-specific groups - that sort of thing would really be useful if it was more popular, as it'd encourage a more intellectual and age-varied side to research. My S.O helps in my case, as he and another member of the re-enactment group I'm with are both Pagans, of the branch that I follow (ancient roman recon').

Encourage the use of scholarship and academia, figuring out ethics and moral issues from an individual path perspective. Really place an emphasis that this sort of thinking and studying is just as important as the deep woo mystic s**t (that which I love), and that most of the sources you really need won't be found in the new age/metaphysical section of your local bookstore. (Almost wrote Borders, and then I had a sad)

I guess I've never really sat down and looked up the definition but I personally use it in the context that within paganism, there are many more individual branches to choose from, wicca, druidry, asatru, kemeticism, discordian, and the list goes and includes eclectic paths. As you study and practice your path, you are pathworking. Does that make sense? I can probably go look for something that describes it better than I can describe.

I wish it was always so simple as wonderful of an idea as that is. However, what happens if you are 16 years old, and the nearest group is an hours drive away? Even in college now, I follow an asatru path and the nearest kindred that I can find is almost 2 hours away. I wish I had easier access but Texas is a huge state O_O

Encourage intellectual honesty and respect for the cultural context from which ideologies and deities originate.

Hmm, so pathworking is studying and practicing eclecticism?

Bus? A lift from a member of the group? A lift from a friend?

Honestly, I think it could apply to any religious branch, but I generally only hear it in context of paganism. (Someone inform me if I am wrong!) You can do pathworking if you are a wiccan, an eclectic, moon worshiper, etc.

This is the definition I found online:

The supposed use of clairvoyance or similar spiritualistic practices to investigate paths that an individual can take in his life.

Those things are definitely plausible! smile
In my case, when I was younger, it wouldn't have worked because of where I lived but it would definitely be a great idea for someone who lived somewhere like new jersey with lots of public transit across the state.

That is true. Some of the best books I read came from me looking them up and ordering them because a lot of bookstores (I miss Borders!) have poor quality books being sold

Half price book stores are actually good places to look for information. All sorts of strange books end up there. Great reads.
