I'm pro-choice. If she wants to keep it, keep it. If she wants to get rid of it (during the certain legal number of weeks), that's her choice.

the part in bold is important to the issue, yet i've never said that to a pro-lifer and had them know anything about the restrictions and why they are there. they usually assume most aborted baby's are 8-9 months and have fully formed bodies, brains, nerves systems, hearts, etc. at least, it sure seems like that when that's all they ever talk about.

Where I am (UK), it's legal if it is before 24 weeks aka 5 months and puts her mental or physical health at risk ie, someone who is not ready to have a child, financially or emotionally. Any later than that, and it's illegal here. Certainly not fully formed, although I was born 3 months early (6 months in), so that's not alarmingly far off.

well, you were born in the grey area i was talking about earlier, then. i think it's about that time that brain and heart activity start. that's the cut off point for many places. i know many states stop allowing abortions about there.

yes, everyone should use protection if they aren't trying to have a kid. the problem is, people don't always use protection. now, do you want to force someone to go threw the whole crappy 9 months of pregnancy and then force them to go threw labor because they got drunk and had sex that they didn't even remember? they might grow resentful toward the child (they very easily could i.e. post-partum depression). or, option b, adoption, which i've watch a woman brake down crying on camera years after because of how painful doing that was.

abortion is a necessary thing. we can't have it and not offer it. that would cause horrible lives for some children, horrible deaths for some women and more deaths from botched back-alley abortions.

I know I'm going to sound harsh, but I support abortion. A baby before it is born is a parasite, it lives off its mother and without her it would die. If a woman is rapped she shouldn't be forced to have her rapist child, and to try and force her to is wrong. If a mothers life is at risk she should have the option to chose her life over that of an unborn baby's. I don't believe it is my business, or anyone's business what a woman chooses to do with her unborn child.

Religiously I was taught that with the first breath our soul enters our body, with our last breath it leaves, but I wouldn't force this belief on anyone, we all should be able to make our own choices concerning what we put our bodies through. As for birth control my mother got pregnant twice while on birth control and using a condom, these things cannot 100% prevent a pregnancy.

There are many reasons why a teen in High School won't use protection/may get pregnant:

1. There are still a lot of schools that teach "Abstinence Only" and don't teach the teens the different forms of contraceptives, how to use them, and how to protect themselves from birth and STDs. These are usually very religious communities and they usually have the highest teen pregnancy rates.
2. You still have a lot of people that are against easy access for contraceptives (things like birth control) and households that teach them not to use it. But these teens still want to have sex and will do so anyway.
3. Teens use a contraceptive, but didn't use it properly, which caused it to fail and the girl to get pregnant. Or that fact that no contraceptive is 100% fail proof.
4. The very common mindset that teens have of "Stuff like that doesn't happen to people like me!"

But these teens should still be forced to carry the child despite all the health risks that can happen to both the young mother and the child.

A fetus, even a newly-implanted embryo, is a potential human life and, as such, deserves respect. It shouldn't be thrown away heedlessly.

However: first off, how many people are there in this world who would treat abortion heedlessly? It's a medical procedure that, at the very least, involves a fairly unpleasant dose of medication and (as with any medical procedure) carries the risk, albeit a small one, of poisoning, infection, maiming or death. Of course, the earlier in pregnancy it is, the less risky it is; and ironically, abortion is less medically risky than childbirth. But my point is, nobody "heedlessly" subjects themselves to all this unless they're insane, in which case they aren't morally responsible for their actions anyway (and neither do you want them to raise children).

Also, there is the castle defense. As you know, in many states a person may legally use deadly force against an intruder; in most jurisdictions a person may legally use deadly force to save his own life from an attacker. Consider now the case of a life-threatening pregnancy. The fetus poses a deadly threat to its mother. If she may defend her person against another grown human being, in case of deadly threat, then using deadly force against a fetus that threatens her life is at least equally defensible, if not more so!

Now, should a fetus be considered a human being for legal purposes? I don't think so. For most of a pregnancy, the fetus is both wholly and exclusively dependent on the woman in whose womb it grows.

Going back to the Bible, as so many anti-choice activists like to do, misses the point; the Bible clearly implies that a fetus is the property of its parents, and not a person. If men are fighting and they injure a pregnant woman, causing her to miscarry, they pay only a monetary fine, whereas the penalty for injuring a person is described as "an eye for an eye" and the penalty for causing the death of another is, well, death! Hence... the fetus is not considered a person, it's property. Of course, if the fighters cause lasting injury to the woman they are penalized for that injury as well as the miscarriage (see: eye for an eye).

If it's legal, you have the right to do so. There is no need to bring in the silly morality argument. If anyone is not happy with it, he or she should go live in a country where abortion is illegal.

If killing fetuses is murder, why is it okay to send people to die in war? Deal with it, this is hard cold reality of life.
