It's questionable because it is considered by many to be the murder of a sentient entity (at later stages of pregnancy).

Development is a spectrum; not binary. Because of that, there is a spectrum of opinions on the subject.


Oh, and some people bring religion into it because forming their own opinion is too difficult.

because it's a grey area and people don't like gray areas, so they either label it a person or a bunch of cells. both are right at different ends of the pregnancy, so i think what really needs to be addressed is the grey area and most laws do that.
i also think there is a WANT for people to think of it as a person. we instinctually want to see it like that because, when it comes to survival of a species, the pregnant women are the most important since they are essentially 2 lives.

Depends on how people want to define life to them. Most of the time, people define life either scientifically, or emotionally.
Scientifically speaking, each sperm is a living entity, and masturbation is the abortion of a thousand potential lives.
Emotionally speaking, only once it is fully grown and capable of thought is it a human life.

the part in bold is important to the issue, yet i've never said that to a pro-lifer and had them know anything about the restrictions and why they are there. they usually assume most aborted baby's are 8-9 months and have fully formed bodies, brains, nerves systems, hearts, etc. at least, it sure seems like that when that's all they ever talk about.
