I'm Catholic and there's a gay marriage debate at my school tomorrow. I'm for it.

I know, apparently there's somewhere in the bible that says its wrong, but I really don't understand all the fuss. People were born that way. God made them that way. I mean, if we're god's children, why would he let someone be born an "obomination"?

Also, if we do allow gay's to be married, aren't we doing the right thing? Gays will be together anyway and if we don't allow them marriage, they'll have sex before marriage.

For those of you who think its wrong, why?

(Btw lets all keep an open mind because I'm talking about this from a religious viewpoint. I don't want any idiots making fun of my religion, plz.)

Where do you live? Is there a Separation of Church and State? If so or if not, do you believe there should be one? If so, isn't the religious debate moot?

Well if there was a seperation, but I felt my religion called me to act against it I'd go with religion over the government. Others might feel the same way, I dunno.

-looks around for homosexuals- Erm..... Weeel... according to Romans 1:20 something.... God didn't "make" them that way via direct creation (as in born) . , He "allowed" them to be that way because they choose that path. Thus the question really isn't about what is right and what is wrong, it is about their individual choice to be what they want to be regardless of God's opinion of it. =/

Please don't kill me for posting this. ^^;;

No, Romans talks about pure action. He 'gave them over' to their lusts (already there), and they preformed unnatural acts. The action of having sex with another is, of course, a choice (except for rape).

But what if that government had both? (Like the US)

Eh, what do you mean both?

Anyways I'd go with my religion anyways regardless of what the US says should they conflict. At least at the level of voting it's not as if it's even illegal.

Here's the thing for Christians, however:
"Give unto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar."

We are commanded to follow the law of the land, even when we disagree with it. If the law commands us to keep our religious views out of the law, we must do so.

I pay my taxes. I see nothing else that has the stamp of the government on it. Certainly not my actions. And my vote is mine to do with what I will.

The institution of marriage is owned by the government.

Religious marriages have been performed for same-sex and/or polyamorous relationships that aren't recognised by the state.

I was talking about the general case, not this one in specific.

Anyways the government doesn't own my vote. There is no law forbidding me from voting for something unconstiutional.

Thus I can support unconstitutional things with my vote even though they don't like it.

Edit: Anyways, I think your interpretation of that is too quote is too broad. We are not commanded to follow the law of the land, we're only commanded to follow it as it pertains to things the government explicity and undeniably has the right to. For instance its money and its institutions.

"Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
-Amendment 1A
You have both in the US. The only exception is that free exercise isn't above the law and if you think you can, just ask the Davidians if that is a good idea
