I'm Catholic and there's a gay marriage debate at my school tomorrow. I'm for it.

I know, apparently there's somewhere in the bible that says its wrong, but I really don't understand all the fuss. People were born that way. God made them that way. I mean, if we're god's children, why would he let someone be born an "obomination"?

Also, if we do allow gay's to be married, aren't we doing the right thing? Gays will be together anyway and if we don't allow them marriage, they'll have sex before marriage.

For those of you who think its wrong, why?

(Btw lets all keep an open mind because I'm talking about this from a religious viewpoint. I don't want any idiots making fun of my religion, plz.)

People were born that way.

That's debatable.

No, scientists have found a gene. I 100% believe people don't choose to be gay.

Not being born that way =/= "It's a choice." I know I didn't choose not to be heterosexual, but I wasn't born bisexual either. I was born asexual. Ideas of ******** either gender/sex didn't enter the picture until at least age 4. (For me.)

I was watching some talk show-- either Oprah or Tyra-- and some doctor said it. I'm not sure if it was a gene (sorry), but he had an explanation for it.

The bible also says we are born sinners, doesnt mean we should remain sinners, also why is God so cruel to bring us into being as creatures bound for hell? not that i believe that gays were born gay.

yes because media always speaks the truth 100% of the time

I just did a little work on the APA looking this up - weirdly enough, it shows up there. A quote from them says this:

APA website on sexual orientation and homosexuality
What causes a person to have a particular sexual orientation?

There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay, or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.

So no, there isn't any official 'gay gene' like there is BRCA1 - it's still being touted as nature/nurture, and not definitively biological. 3nodding

I feel like adding to this. Although I'm not too sure of the gay "gene" I am definitely sure of the gay "brain".

Here's the article...

Always interesting to notice that the brain of gays is similar to that of their straight opposite sex counterparts.....

That, I did hear about. And it was cool. I do think the research base needs to be widened in at least one of those cases though, 90 people's a pretty small sample. 3nodding

I wonder sometimes about my own brain, and if it would show as more masculine in testing even though I am heterosexual and female. I've always been significantly more masculine than feminine...

"Obomination"? wut?

2311 Bitches!

"Suffer not a Moron to live"
The bible says that one should not lie with another man as he does a woman. But there is something you can do to negate this rule breaking. Spending some time in the desert or whatever. Though the rule, as many of the laws, such as the ones in Exodus, probably had more to do with the time and place than with God. In biblical times one needed a large family and many children to survive, haveing sex with a man (if you were a man) meant you weren't haveing sex with a woman makeing babies. But now we don't need big families, in fact we're overpopulated.

Quote:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,140 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."141 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

You clearly do not have any sort of grasp on why the doctor claimed this. As such, this is not a good source of information. Another doctor may very well disagree; this person is not automatically right by merit of being a doctor. I suggest some independent research.
