Welcome to Gaia! ::

I have a radical theories... concerning morality and lifestyle.
I have grown up consuming large doses of anime and manga all my life. As we all know manga and anime come from primarily from Japan.

I have consumed so much Japanese sub-doubled anime... that I actually think in Japanese language and I have Japanese ticks.

How do I know if I have been partially brainwashed -or even corrupted - by Japanese culture (keep in mind I am not xenophobic nor ultranacionalist)? Japanese societies are very competitive under constant pressure and this is reflected in manga...since I have consumed manga and anime during my childhood and adolescence, how can I know if I have lost some kind of inner personal peace?

Forget about anime, manga and Japanese culture... How could I know that I haven't been brainwashed by the government or society?

There is a way to escape the brainwashing that you don't notice?? Can I truly trust my senses?

Sometimes I go to the church and sometimes I watch TV and sometimes I listen music...
I do not know if that affects me somehow.

I used to listen music while doing my homeworks. But my brother told me that this is a mental disorder..."The brain mustn't divided itself to work, you are creating adverse neurological patterns".

It's true, I shouldn't listen music while doing homework. It is not efficient. It is also bad.

It's bad. I can not see what is inside my mind... I can not observe my own thoughts... I can not format, compile or debug my emotions. I guess I am losing emotional stability.

There are many good parts about Japanese culture as well as other cultures. You need to elaborate what you mean on this.

What religion do you follow? If Manga and Anime is more important to you then your own religion, I would say it's a problem. Unless you don't care about religion.

For example, your like praying however you pray, and then one of the episodes you watched is running through your head disturbing you, because your so obsessed. I don't know. xp

What is inner peace for you?

It all depends in what your definition of being brainwashed is.

I guess everybody is indoctrinated with certain views, through whatever it is you're confronted with in your life. Is it a bad thing? Not sure, I for one don't find my own views repulsive, even if they are the result of my upbringing.

I wouldn't say you are brainwashed just that the tv shows you watch have influenced your life. Like how pornography has influenced the way many people view sex today. There are many shows that influence what our opinions are of course. Now of course if anime and manga are your life then thats a problem, but it doesn't sound like it so it's fine. I'm a huge star wars fan as my user name suggests and I got alot of my moral beliefs from it.
in fact, the japanese have a secret underground plot to brainwash america with their animes as a first step- "softening their enemies up" -to world domination

and now that you've learned about it, you might want to be wary of hidden surveillance cameras in your mangas

who do you know if you are brainwashed? or mad?

You mean "how," right? Not "who"? Because I don't think I know anybody if I'm brainwashed or mad...

Okay, three things.
1. Your "theories" sound more like paranoia.
2. You don't get "brainwashed" or "corrupted" by learning about another culture. I'm pretty sure it's a common quality of humanity to assimilate itself to a new culture. We're social creatures, and we tend to want to fit in with our peer groups. if you immerse yourself in one culture, you tend to get really into it. I tend to have this problem when I research a religion, and have to remind myself that these are not my own beliefs, as I'm never the type to settle on any one thing, and consider them all facets of one thing. sweatdrop
3. If you're freaking out like that, clearly you've lost some inner personal peace. However, you have to really ask yourself, "Did I ever have inner peace to begin with?"

What I'd recommend is, if you're really worried about it, maybe stop reading manga or watching anime for a while, and find something that's part of what you'd consider "your" culture. Though this is all ridiculous, as the world is more-or-less growing smaller, and there's pretty much nothing but a world culture. And if otaku is your culture now, why the hell should it matter to you? Just don't get all "Japan is the greatest country in the world!" and you'll be alright.

But yeah, maybe a break from it all might be best. Watch something American, or English, or French, or German. Check a Bollywood film, I don't care, anything.

I may sound funny but it is a serious problem. And yes, fun/distraction is a brutal weapon precisely because people isn't aware of it.

I do not want to mean that Japanese are "evil" people but manga/anime can be fatal even on Japanese.

And yes, American people has been brainwashed many times by foreign powers and inner ones.

Aged Gaian

How do you think in Japanese just from watching anime with subtitles? And what 'Japanese tics' do you have? Do you say ne at the ends of your sentences?

That aside, I think the most appropriate way to describe what you're calling corruption or brainwashing is influence. You have been influenced by Japanese culture.

Whenever someone says "radical theory" I mentally substitute "stark raving mad rant". It has yet to be inappropriate.

For much the same reason Italian shoes come primarily from Italy.

Can you speak Japanese, or have you just picked up a few words? Either way, so what?

Picking up a few bits of some other culture (insomuch as anime/manga even represents Japanese culture) is not "brainwashing" or "corruption", it's just picking up a few bits of culture. You're just being paranoid, and more than a little xenophobic.

I don't think you're brainwashed. I think you're obsessed. It may be healthier for you to take a break from it.

Have you caused harm or taken violent action against individuals for the sake of your hobby?

Does the thought of western society make you disgusted to a point beyond corporate structures? (I.E. you hate people rather than the authorities they represent)

Do you refuse to acknowledge the validity of western media or any other media in relevance to Japanese media?

These are probably the big 3 to look out for.

Aged Humorist

It's quite simple; you have the ability to ask around if you are brainwashed or have gone mad. Of course, the answer is no.
