First of all, this book, was written. How long ago? By most Christians more or less 2007 years ago....this is pre-1960's woman activists movements blah blah blah...so, we're talking about what exactly? Interpretation. Taking Old English and such into effect, Man can be referred to as a specie of sorts. When one speaks of man, he can refer to either a male of the specie, or the specie in general. For example, Man created fire? Maybe? That's as a group, not some dude sitting there trying to burn stuff. So this could be taken out of context or just outright de-railing it, but I would have to say that "he," God, if there is such a thing, is Genderless. As stated prior, they had to put he. If they made it a she, then the Pagans and such back then, would laugh at the religion, like most laugh at Wicca and other such ridiculous religions.

The bible was written and re-written by men in a society that at the time felt women were no more than objects and only marginally above slaves. Do you really think I'm going to beleive it word for word?

I say that in the original version of the bible, Adam and Eve had four arms and ten eyes and could eat fire as sustinence.
The reason that this is not seen in any modern version of the bible is that it was altered over time by two armed, two eyes, non fire eaters who sought to alter scripture for their own ends.

First of all, I, personally, am an Atheist, so I'm on the outside looking in. But truth be told, does it really matter to you whether or not God is supposed to be a male or female. No to mention that "he" is normally depicted as ust a spirit (I'm using "he" in a generalizing manner). And don't listen to what these people who are citing the Bible say, because everyone should no by now that many, many things are lost in translation.

God is without a corporeal body. In the bible, when He is referred to as having any sort of physical body (ie. the hand of God) it is a metaphor. He is referred to as man because in Genesis, Eve was the one to blame (the serpent if you want to get technical...) for she and Adam to be cast from Eden. As punishment, woman would always have to serve man, thus man is greater, and God is even greater still.

It is actually debated that Adam did not have a given sex, or reproductive parts until Eve was crafted from his rib. Why would he need them?

Hah. I am kinda grateful for god... It would be a strange ******** up deranged circus of mutated freak babies with machine guns by now without him. So now only I can be a mutated freak baby with a machine gun because everyone else is afraid of going to hell!
