The human body is physical, and the laws of physical existence entail sex. Nothing horrible about that, but thats how things go in this plane of existence.
There is a need for female and male for that existence to remain in cycle.
He created it that way.

However, 'He' is only a word that lets us talk about God in our language. He is not physical, He is spiritual. Spiritual souls have no need of sex, nor do they abide by the same physical rules as our bodies do. God is neither female nor male. He is God.
It least, that my understanding of the subject. I personally can't wait to live in a world after I'm dead on a spiritual plane without the hampering rules of physical bodies. I wonder what me, a female now, will be then? cheese_whine
God has no human form. The way I see it, He is called "He" and "Father" in the Bible because it would sound a bit silly saying "It" and "That Guy up there". Makes senseif you're going to write a book about Him. razz
The Logos/Logic of Life and Creator of the universe and all life is both male and female and is intimately involved in every conception.

That nature's God revealed Himself as the Perfect Human as a male, does not deny the fullness of His Nature.
As the Perfect Man He also revealed the Perfect Woman because both Man and Woman must submit to the Loving Intent of the Creator for fulfillment and happiness, and Christ submitted Himself fully to His Father's Intent even to the extent of being slandered, tortured, shamed and slain...He remained faithful.

His Parables describe His church as faithful brides going into the wedding chamber with Him the Bridegroom. Proverbs 31, describes the perfect wife and it also describes the perfect follower of Christ.
Solomon's Song describes the beautiful Black woman whom God loved the most and the nature of their relationship. This also describes the nature of Man's relation to God.

Whether son, daughter, wife, husband, Man or Woman, they all have the same relationship to nature's Lover.

if what i learned about God in classes at my church are true, then it is said that humans were created in his image, and since Adam came first, He is obviously male

of course assuming that Adam and Eve actually existed

The Bible very clearly states what sex YHVH is.

Read this thread. Then we will talk.
The english version defines it- it's a translation that is proven to be inacurate.
The origonal text does define god as male, but not always.

Personally, if the Christian god does exsist- it doesn't make sense for it to be male- men do not birth life, women do.
As for Adam before Eve- 2 comments
A. Adam was a rough draft, God saw the mistakes, and made Eve.
B. Eve was created first, decided she needed something to boggle her mind, God created Adam.
The Bible makes no comment upon Eve's nature other than that she was the first woman and that she was created as Adam's companion (as it was recognized man sought such companionship). In the same manner, by her design (and woman's in general), Adam was made into Eve's companion, as she sought similar companionship. Eve was not made as Human Being ver2.0 (to argue so would imply that Eve was somehow better than God, Adam made in His likeness, according to His nature (there's little saying Eve was not fashioned in the same manner)).

God *made* Creation, the Text is pretty clear on that. He did not give birth to it, hence God may well be either gender, both, or (most likely, at least our conception of the idea) neither.

So far as I'm aware, I'd have to agree- Jesus for instance does mention that there is no marriage (and presumably all that it encompasses, sex included, if you follow Church doctrine) in Heaven (this is of course a whole other burrito)
