The thing I have a hard time seeing is WHY are they bad? After all if there is no higher being morality is subjective and right and wrong are nothing but opinion.

For me, can't speak for anybody else, its about what I would hate for somebody to do to me. If it would hurt myself or others, I won't do it. Of course its an opinion, morality is relative after all, and values differ from person to person.

(BTW, thanks for being calm and rational DLD, this thread is crazy enough. xD)

I don't think its a bad thing in any way to base your morality on the Bible though, but it has to be kept in mind how long ago it was written and recompiled time after time. There are some things in there, like the tacit acceptance of slavery and even obedience instructions for slaves, that go against almost everybody's sense of morality. You just adhere to and abide by what feels right to you, right now. ^^ Isn't that an opinion?

If humans were once monkeys and apes, then why are there still monkeys and apes? Unchanged ones, for that matter, which fit the fossils of others from "millions of years ago"?? And for that matter, what about other animals? If we evolved so much, then what did the horse used to be? Or an elephant? Dogs and cats? For that matter, did plants and trees evolve, as well? What did a ficus tree used to be? There are only SO many physical combinations of form, of course some species are going to be quite similar.

It's also VERY hard to accept anything that Darwin spoke of, since he himself discounted his own theories before he died.

Well,

You see, nobody says that humans were once monkeys or apes. We say that humans, monkeys and apes had a common ancestor, millions of years ago, and that the populations have since diverged. Let me tell you about divergence, okay? Let's say you have a bacterium, and then it splits in half into two distinct bacteria. Where is the original bacterium?

In any case: that takes care of the common ancestors of modern horses and zebras (Eohippus), and elephants (whose closest living relatives are the hyraxes). Dogs are domesticated wolves; wolves still exist, although not for long. Cats are domesticated desert cats; desert cats still exist, although I believe they are also endangered. And, yes, plants have evolved as well. The modern fig tree shares a common ancestor with all flowering plants, although that's very far back; there are fossilized plants of most every kind you might care to see.

I'll elaborate on Shaviv's post. Humans are classified as apes in taxonomy, so saying they were "once apes" doesn't make sense. Humans, monkeys and the other apes share a common ancestor; they all branched off from there. As for your other comments, well . . . we have these for elephants, these for horses. What are you talking about.

And the Lady Hope story? Completely fabricated. Shaviv already touched on it.

that was a waste of type for you. If any of you fools can prove to me that God is not real, I will give you all that I own, go kill and rape as many people as possible, and then kill myself. If God is not real, then all ten of the commandments are fake so doing what they say not to do is OK.

So you mean there is no meaning in not raping and killing (besides that god said so) interesting.
If god exist you will probably go to hell!

So your only reason not to go out and kill anyone is because you'll go to hell if you do that?

no. it is because God says do not do it.

And the fact that he killed millions throughout the course of the Bible means nothing?

Any apologist, Biblical scholar, or theologian worth his salt here will point out the difference between killing and murder, the fact that "thou shalt not kill" is actually "thou shalt not murder", and the fact that by Judeo-Christian theology YHVH is not capable of murder.

There. I've saved them the trouble.

So this is where I say goodbye
This is where my story ends
And if there's one thing that I've learned from life
It's that it gets you in the end

My option isn't on there? How the hell am I supposed to vote when my religion (or lack thereof) isn't put as an option?

Btw, I'm agnostic. I've crossed the border fully into agnosticism.

No harder than accepting that a woman turned into a pillar of salt for looking at a city or that every single culture on Earth was together but had to scatter just because a tower fell.

ive seen alot of monkeys. ive never seen any of them turn in to men.

The process of evolution takes place over the course of thousands of years. It is not a process that will occur "right before your eyes."

I don't believe in evolution.

One-celled, microscopic, bacteria turning into people with consciousness? Please.

I look to the Bible for answers.

That sounds remarkably like a personal problem. A healthy dose of fact should do away with that.

Clay sounds much more likely, right?

Lets hope you're never asked to calculate pi then...

Both Lisa Simpson and the Bible state that Pi is exactly three. It is absurd to think they are both wrong.
And, for the record, insects only have four legs, hare eat their cud, bats are birds, mustard comes from mustard trees, Snakes eat dust, Camels have cloven feet, the earth's position is stable, the earth has four corners therefore must be flat.
Any so called 'evidence' to the contrary is just Satan trying to trick you.
