I believe if you just believe in god, and Jesus you are Christian
I never go to church, I curse a lot, I don't see why you have to pressure others to be Christian, or religions. I support gay rights, because I don't give a s**t about what others do with their lives. I think in certain scenarios abortion is okay, especially for rape victims. Or early on stages.
I joke about my beliefs a lot. I'm very respectful of others beliefs also.
Does this make me Christian? Or even religious? My whole family is Christian.
There is something that needs to be seriously clarified before assessing if your faith ins genuine. This is important because most professing Christians are not actually aware of what they truly believe when confronted with the right questions.
You state a belief in Jesus... At the intellectual level? Many people (especially the younger crowd) have a hard time discerning where their faith truly is. Many people state a belief in Christianity/Jesus, but fail to realize that they only believe in Jesus at the intellectual level. This is not going to help you because if the faith is not moving with all that you are, then that is a red flag.
Another thing is "fruit bearing". Jesus said something pretty thought provoking. It was from his thought's on false prophets, but it can be said of pretty much anyone... "You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
(Matthew 7:16-20 ESV)
So what is this fruit that he's talking about? If you're actually a believer, then Jesus promises that he'll send you something called the Holy Spirit, to help you out in life. What is the "Fruit of the Spirit?"
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
(Galatians 5:22-23 ESV)
Now a
terrible ting to do is to see if you live out these qualities naturally. It's a lot smarter to ask close friends (who wont lie to you) who actually know you inside and out to asses if these qualities are true in you. Granted not all Christians are perfect in this regard (some are better at being patient than self-controlled), but there should be certain ones that especially stand out. If none of these are apparent in any of the close people around you, then this is another massive red flag that's on fire, lol.
