Welcome to Gaia! ::

Ok, another problem I have with people is when they believe in a religion that says it's sinful to be lustful and to have sex before marriage, and yet their attitude elsewhere seems like an absolute reversal of the idea.

Take for example, having a person who looks down on someone for having an avatar on Gaia that's slightly suggestive or is making an innuendo. Or a youtube video that shows a 3d animation of babies being hung up like chicken or a woman being milked like a dairy cow (It was all about how people have cheapened themselves and let themselves be treated like animals). And yet they send me a link to a video of birds having sex saying "Aww isn't it cute? They look like they're having a good time."

That's just... what? Really? You hate on people for making perverse jokes, or using a shocking notion to make a point, and yet you get all happy and such over birds?

That's not all. Even in a role play, they will try so hard to get your character to screw theirs or cyber with them. They go all out with a character touching the other person's character or getting into the mood just because it's what they want at the time. The characters aren't even married, and they've already made it to second base? It's also really creepy when you say you're against *****, and yet you try to get a character who's probably in their mid twenties with a character who's only 14. Then you try making it acceptable by saying "Oh, well I don't see them as being 20.. they're more like 18." ... That's STILL sorta ***** you know! >_<

And they don't believe that giving in to the urge to have sex is being lustful. That's just satisfying your immediate wants without thinking about the outcome. So having 7 to 8 kids just because you didn't think to make your partner to wear a condom or you don't believe in inhibiting the 'natural' process' isn't lustful? If you can't afford to raise those kids properly and are too lazy to give them up for adoption to someone who can just because it means you won't have enough money for porn that you and your partner can watch, I'd say that's pretty lustful.

Really... don't go spouting how you hate people who make dirty jokes or call girls who dress a little skimpy as whores, when you're over there getting off on videos about animal sex and having your role play characters laid when they're under aged or not married. Lustful isn't just a literal, physical condition while being in the act of intercourse, you can be lusty and such without getting laid.

Seriously.... if you're that much of a closet pervert, just admit it, don't turn your nose up at people when you do the exact same thing yourself. ಠ_ಠ

Some people are hypocritical...it happens.

What's new?

Shameless Mystic

A major problem my peers seem to face is the fact it isn't their duty to force others to act like Christians. It extends elsewhere, but it seems the attitude is a constant.

Hmm, true.

I just wish people would be a bit more truthful about the true nature of their habits. People don't have to change their ways necessarily, but for goodness sakes, it's irksome when a person is getting off on questionable content, but they get angry at people making a dirty joke.

I suppose I see your point, by why present it in the form of a rant? I thought these were forums for discussion and debate.

Questionable Lover

I either wish my genitals were twice as large as they are now.

Or I wish I had like, 4 sets of additional male genitals.

Either way It'd be a good conversation starter.
I think you're confusing the devoutly religious with the innately stupid.

Ahaha, depends, they may be devout, but they're rather stupid as well.

That and the fact that the person I'm referring to was always spouting stuff about miracles, about Jesus or her prayers and such.

You're telling me that this rant wasn't about a community of people at all, but one single idiotic person?

No no, there have been quiet a few others who have been just as idiotic or hypocritical, it's just that there was a specific person that had all of those traits. It's highly disturbing to me that there are people out there that contradict their values that much, and yet won't admit to it.

What you've described strikes me as a form of cognitive dissonance sans awareness of hypocrisy. Whereas some people would understand that their beliefs and their drives are causing them to act in two opposite ways, this person thinking process seems to rationalize their dual nature for them, almost without effort. This means they will continually fail to see the error of their ways, and will not stop doing any of it-- whether it be the church thing or the others-- until it no longer gives them what they're looking for.

And what is it they're looking for? Attention and approval. In my experience, those two things are what drive people like you've described to do the things they do. In church, they can be rewarded for exhibiting the traits of what a good Christian should be-- which is not hard if those people only know you for a couple hours one to three times a week-- and the typical church's tendency to rally around their own in times of need can be seen as a source of attention when the person is lacking. Away from church, the Christian Card can be thrown in situations where they want to cast disapproval upon something, but it's still another cry for approval. When given a list of "Christian-like" traits, they will focus on the traits that come naturally to them while ignoring or excusing the ones that don't. The person you're referring to in particular, then, has no problem finding attention online in the form of roleplay, even though the person's actions online are not indicative of a Christian nature, because he or she perceives the barrier of computers excuses him or her from Christian conduct.

This is probably the result of being raised in a Christian home but a secular and highly sexualized culture. It reminds me in particular of a girl that I went to church with for several years-- she would laud herself for her Christian principles in public but would ******** boys at Christian camp when she snuck out of her cabin. Both church and sex became tools by which she was able to feed her need for attention and approval, and if you were to ask for my advice, I would tell you to stay away from people like these, because they give those who are earnestly religious a bad name and drag everyone else into their bullshit.
