I know they have a sister site there, and some people use the sister site, but the majority of users have said it is blocked, perhaps it depends on where in China you are going -shrug-, maybe it would be best for you to ask in the "Gaia International" forum, cuz if anyone from China is in there, they would be able to answer your question more accurately.

If you can't access facebook, I assume the game just wouldn't work.

Gaia have never ever been blocked in China since it rarely has sensitive issues, unlike livejournal, facebook and wiki. There's an off chance that facebook isn't blocked? razz They block and unblock livejournal, wiki and youtube all the time. Facebook was allegedly blocked after I left China so I don't know if that's the case. (it was never blocked in my memory when I was there so.)

Proxy is a good idea but most of them are rather slow, I'm not sure if it would even work with games. What does being a goody two shoes have to do with using proxy sites..? (which is basically just accessing website via other websites/servers located in other countries..?)

AND. My friend went to china as vaca, they could get onto Gaia but that was like...uhh half a year ago? I'm pretty sure that it's okay there.
