so, i'm playing rez. i'm currently at eden. fourth form... 5 powerups needed to gain fifth form. one overdrive.

it's sweet. like... the very first stage, first few areas are slow, but that's just to get you used to the way things sound and feel. but when you're 40% in, the music really kicks in and you start getting the full effect.

you make the music in the game. in that, i mean that there are things you can do to affect sounds, effects, and if the music progresses to a new depth of complexity. your cursor can lock onto 8 enemies at a time, and the shots sound different depending on how many you're locked on when you release. what form you're in also changes things... the normal [first form] just has a special kinda orchestra hit when you're maxed on locks and actually fire, but the third or fourth form has a voice saying "release" at max and other things when close to it.

also, defeating certain enemies... there's a flying virus [because you're travelling through a comp network] on the last stage that takes 4 shots to put down. shot 3 has it go "fear..." and the final make "is the mindkiller" play as it blows up.

like... i'm trying to think of games like frequency, amplitude, guitar hero, rock band... and it's not like that. you affect the music much more directly with every button press. even pressing the button to lock the cursor has it make a clap sound, so if you're in a frantic battle, you hear lots of clapping... and if you're timing it right, you hear "release" and an orchestra hit all in time with the music.

and then there's first stage boss who, when you get to a certain percentage on its health, does an operatic cry and resets its shield by expanding all the shells you just blew up.

it's a visual and audial treat. and even awesome when listen to on a sound system or with headphones... i have 'phones.

there's also a trance vibrator that can be bought and japan imported. yes, it's a vibrator. it moves in time with the music, kinda like the dual shock. i'm sure that "rock is a sponge" is one of the bests songs to let your girlfriend watch you play.
