I found out they were eating one of our plants alive, and laying eggs in the "armpits" of the leaves. We put the plant outside, it's a really nice plant, so I feel sorry for it:

Did you dispose of the eggs (boiling water might do the trick)? And yes poor plant. I never expected flies to do that sort of thing. Then again.. if you've seen the movie The Fly - maybe they do

I don't think boiling the plant may not be so good for the plant. The flies did stop coming after we put the plant outside. Maybe some insecticides could still save it. On internet they speak of other insects infesting this plant, but not flies/maggots. You should see it, what they did to the plant is really gruesome. I'm never tolerating another fly.
