Took Kopi Luwak, it's such rare occasion that peoples make pixel items like that.

since i live in country which produce it,teehee(guess where!)

LOL! I hope you don't mind that I had the steam take the form of a cute turd then. I cannot hear the name of that stuff without thinking, cat poop coffee. I'm guessing you're in Indonesia as I think it mostly comes from Sumatra.

Actually,it's not a really cat, it's more like armadillo, but smaller, the name is luwak(as far as i know, there's no english name for it.) Took the roses! such beautiful emotion_kirakira and also took the mystery x food~ emotion_c8

why don't you combine the wine with the roses? it'll be named "poison ivy wine"~ xD

It's not wine... it's whiny blood.

B-blood? ; A;
Make a bottle of.. Demon's blood perhaps? It's like a blackened blood, or scarlet(rather dark-ish scarlet ones), it'd be really amazing * v *

I wonder why people disliked your shop..
no offense, but usually, shops with a *simple*(no not really, the rose pixel proof your good shading) never get.. dislikes just like that, especially your shop is a freebie ones, prolly your haters? just ignore them, h8ters gonna h8. C: just remember because you never gave a single ******** to them
and.. make another Mystery Food? It's *virtually* delicious! :>

Ha. I did Demon's blood as a "bloodtini" [as in blood served in a martini glass] for the Halloween Collective... it's black and has black flames coming out of it.

It's really not a frilly shop. |D Having frilly graphics and such wouldn't fit it.

Not really a good reason to not have a shop in my opinion. Your pixels are good D: My pixels were a lot worse than yours when I first set up shop. I didn't have to deal with votes though.

I think heart c a n d ii was being too hard on you~ (just in my opinion) Perhaps I can relate as a virgo, but I would've acted the same way. I often will rant about my down votes in my thread even though I have a popular tag. It is discouraging. I really wish there was a way to disable it if you didn't like to see it. I even ad blocked it for a period of time just so I didn't see it. I don't feel like down votes do me any good. I love comments like "Make the order form font a little bigger please" or "you should add a navigation bar. @.@ ". They help me improve. But </3ing does no good.

Furthermore, I feel that my mini shop is like my home on Gaia. It's the place I choose to rant when I need to on here. (Although that has caused some trouble occasional I suppose XD Unintentional but still ) I feel like the reason my shop has stayed up so long is because I feel comfortable in it. I've formed some emotional attachment to it that's deeper than just the items and the gold. I think you should feel comfortable in your shop~ Even if that means ranting about stuff sometimes~

I'm sorry you've had a tough time setting up : < Perhaps I could try to promote your shop in my shop. It would be a good time of year :'D As it is Halloween season. I've got some really amazing customers that lurk around my shop and I'm sure they could help you getting things started.

It's not really necessary to help me promote.... I've accepted that for the prior cited reasons -- bad personality, bad art, bad layout, setting up in wrong forum, accepting advise from Art Shop people, etc -- are all reasons for why deserve lots of </3 votes and should not be running any more mini shops in the future. I think I'm done with this forum other than as a customer in whatever shops will still permit me from ordering from them.

Since I'm not including the person's username anywhere, I think it's okay to post this. Anyway here's one of the more "constructive" PMs as to why I deserve </3 votes.

Quote:
1 - Formatting and graphics.

Your thread needs to be visually appealing in order to attract customers and give your shop a good vibe. You have graphics for headers, which is good, but that doesn't necessarily make your shop "pretty" for lack of a better term. When I plan a shop, I look at successful shops and see what they have in common. It's usually having a small size font either centered in the middle or to the left with some tabs for space. Some will have no graphics and just use larger text and colors (think sugar safari) or simple graphics (think puchi pet). They usually have a color scheme with two to three complimenting colors that tie everything together. I suggest you look at other shops and see what you think will work with your theme and code everything ahead of time in the text forum.

2 - Art style

Pixels are very common these days, so you need to set yourself apart from the competition. You seem to have a basic grasp of shading, but there is still room for improvement, especially with shapes and lines. I think it would be best to look up a few good pixel tutorials and practice a bit more first. I learned from looking at other people's pixels and noticing how they would draw shadows and highlights and how the made the lines. There are plenty of great pixel shops around you can benefit from. I'm not at all saying your art is bad, but as an experienced pixel artist, there are things you can improve on and I'd be happy to give you pointers if you want.

Lastly, have more confidence. If you think negatively from the beginning, then you're just setting yourself up for failure.

That pretty much goes completely against all of the prior advise I got which was to specifically NOT study other people's pixel art. If want to make a bottle, I should either get a bottle out of my refrigerator or search google for images of RL bottles. What I should not do is go to your shop or anyone else's shop, buy something that is a bottle then study that because I will never develop my own art style and will only become good at copying that person's art.

The person was kind enough to elaborate on #2 and the last point in a latter PM to clarify that my pixel art needs to be as good as what is available for sale in your shop, Beli Cafe, and any of the other shops with popular status. It doesn't matter that this is a freebie shop if the art is not good as those shops, I deserve </3 votes. Sugar Safari was specifically cited as a shop that I need to "study." [i.e. try to copy/mini the art style of.]

As for the last point, I'm not quite sure what the person was getting at when they elaborated but the impression I got was that they were trying to say that nobody trolls anyone in the mini shop forums. [Is there some magical barrier around Mini Shops that will keep a troll from elsewhere from coming here?] So if I say my shop got trolled [and even get someone to fess up that they did it], I'm still wrong because those all those </3 votes only came people who either hate my layout or don't think my art is good enough. It doesn't matter that it's a fricken freebie thread.

I disagree with too much of that to type it all out |D
But I will type a little.
Because I'm all in a huff now XD

Not a cute shop. Please don't go for cute. XD Spruce it up a bit if you want, but please don't add pink or anything lol.

I will elaborate on this because it's something I strongly believe.
I'm also going to put it in a spoiler as it is getting into textwall territory and I don't want to stretch your page too much.
I like to encourage all levels of pixel artists to try out a shop. And with their own style. I've seen many varieties of pixels on Gaia. I really enjoy a good variety. I think trying to push too hard with you have to have "this, this and this" to be a mini shop owner, in a way, encourages art theft. I would much rather encourage all levels. Those 'lower level' pixel artists will improve over time. And you'll end up with a beautiful new style of pixel art. *u* I think when people feel pressured to be at the top level to pixel is when they start trying to sell edits/copies/straight out theft.
Secondly! XD
If my shop is going to be referenced, it must be realized that my pixels and graphics have come a long way from when I started.
Examples:

(I also have a prize from this year's Halloween event that I could link to to show my improvement with the sky, but I'll leave that x3 )
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.---&User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.---&User Image
(Cakes in my shop are in need of an update so I didn't want to link to one of those XD)

Also, as you can clearly see, the place you're starting with your shop's pixels is clearly beyond where mine was. XD That last one was hard to link to.

I'm sure Flame could provide a similar opinion. She's really come a long way since she first started pixeling. and omg so much faster than I did. I'm so jealous /sobs

Well I just got another PM from that same person saying that "I never said you should steal/reference other people's pixels. I said study them. It's like how art students look at other artists' works to better their own understanding of how to draw. You can develop your own art style while learning from other art. I like how you "assume" I meant that you would only be able to copy other people. I never said that at all."

I may not have taken an extensive number of art classes but the few I have taken, but the modern approach isn't what I'm being advised to do here... They encourage you to reference actual objects [preferred] and if you really cannot get the object or go to where it is act [a photograph], but never reference someone else's art of that object. I've received advise from art shop people to reference RL objects or photos only, and you gave me the same advise around the end of August when I was first getting into pixel art.

Ironically while the person claims they're not trying to make me not do any more pixel art, they're PMs are having that effect anyway. I've hit a no inspiration slump, when normally I have more ideas than I know what to do with. -_-

I normally reference photos for my pixels o3o Photos or rl objects are for sure what I would recommend. It seems like a lot of repeat/copycat items start popping up with people try to reference other peoples pixels.
I look at tutorials when I want to learn new techniques (like the checker board technique or stuff like that)
(I've noticed some people use tutorials to make exact items. Ice Pandora's cake tutorial is the one I always see. Which is fine I suppose. But I prefer to take just techniques away from tutorials and apply them to different types of items)

If their advice isn't particularly helpful to you, you could just ask them to stop o3o
I typically just stop replying when I'm not getting anything useful out of a conversation XD But that might be rude idk

I try to reply to people no matter what as I feel it's rude not to, but I've decided for my own sanity that I will not reply any further to any "constructive criticism" that I have either already heard from someone else and/or comes off as rude... or I'll just say "thanks for the feedback" and leave it at that. Trying to convince people who won't like my art style so long as it continues to look like my art style are never going to be convinced I'm not doing anything wrong.

I'm finding that beverages come more naturally to me, so I'm going to stick with that in the future... plus I can do very fun things with them that I cannot do with solid food [like the bats soda I did for the halloween collective.] I like buying food that just sits there, but I don't like making it.

One tutorial I have been looking at though is this one ->
http://kiwinuptuo.deviantart.com/art/Pixel-Art-Tutorial-Textures-203459613

This more like super long term, but it's good for that logo I started about a month ago [still not done] as it will help make the bricks on the tower look more natural.

(bold emphasis mine)

I was going to type out some long a** post about studying other people's art can be attributed to studying their techniques, compostion, colour choices, etc. and can be considered not copying but hell you summarized it perfectly in one sentence. emotion_kirakira

I think one should study people's processes and use irl references. And although people seem to neglect this a lot but practicing cubes, spheres, triangular prisms and rectangular prisms (any basic 3D shape under the sun) will really really really help with people's (pixel) art. Many beginners start out drawing flat. My pixel art started out embarrassingly flat too hahaha... sweatdrop

Anyway, Whitby! Congratulations on your shop opening! That Kopi Luwak...PFFFFT emotion_awesome Can't wait to see what you'll come up with in the future.
