Ever have the feeling that something's missing in your life? Missing your partner in crime? A study budy, maybe? Lack of that "angel on your shoulder" to help point you in the right direction? If so, then you've come to the right place! You'll fine exactly what you're looking for here.
These are Gem Babies! How did I come across such a treasure you may wonder, but that's something I just cannot share. These precious beings are merely tiny eggs that have absolutely no protection in the wild; at least none that I'm aware of. If their parents are around, they've never stopped me from nurturing their young. Unfortunately, as eggs they need a special machine in order to hatch. Without it, they simply remain as eggs - luckily, they don't just die. However, as eggs they are much more vulnerable to prey.
While building this machine I stumbled across different variations that will influence their personality. Of course, there are other ways to mold such a thing - such as caring for them or giving them special treats that will shift their attitude and personality. After all, if your parents buy you everything you want, your personality will vary from that of a child who's parents gave them nothing but hand-me-downs. Mind you, do not forget that many-many things can play a role in ones personality; that is no different for these youngins. These machines will partially influence the young before they hatch, the rest is up to you.
Once hatched, their personalities begin to show you a taste of what they are like. Mischevious? Book worm? Lazy? If you give them what they want - within reason - they will surely love you more! As they reach their final step that I've come to see, they will likely stay with you if you've treated them kindly. If you've mistreated them, there's a good chance they will find a way to leave and may never return. I've seen this happen one too many times and because of this I am reluctant to allow anyone else to care for them. Because there are so many - and counting - I feel the need to request help in raising them and caring for them.
More often then not, these Gem Babies tend to be fairly intelligent. They start off with small sounds that seem more animal-like or even sounds that you would hear coming from Mother Nature herself ( - the sound of the wind howling or the waves crashing along the sandy shore...), but thanks to their loved-one they will learn your tongue in order to better communicate. Remember, they may "do as you do" before they do as you say in the beginning!

They are not RP required. If you wish to RP with them, I'm not responsibile for setting that up or pushing you to do so. Just link me to your pets journal or where you will be RPing with them and if there's enough there before their final stage, it may influence their colours, clothing or maybe even any extras that they might have (ie: A book of some sort might be added).
At the moment there are only three stages for these pets.
Also, I've only found females - no male has yet hatched from these Gem Babies, but there has to be some somewhere! Maybe? Or maybe they don't breed? Once I find that out, I'll find out if breeding is available and how -- but for now, there is no breeding available...
There, thus far, are seven Gem Babies-breeds available. In the top row, we have Kits, Sirees, Possies and Canzies, and in the second row we have, Kitsus, Lillians and Squilians
Kits Visually, they appear very feline - even the way they start to move at a young age has a sort of grace about them. This may also be why they can be a bit finicky - perhaps they do have some feline-blood running through their veins. They like to climb and can be one of two extreme's - normally. Either they're very solitary or very "clingy" to who raised them. It's not always the case, of course, but more often then not tends to have no middle ground.
Sirees Don't be afraid when they hatch and they have "one leg" or a "tail". They slither around - or will crawl in the beginning - and will use their bottom-half (or tail, if you will) for quite a lot. Usually using it to cling to something or hang from something, but that's not its limit. Though, at a young age they might do more flopping about then anything - don't worry! Just be patient with them and help them along the process of learning how to move! I've noticed with this breed they tend to be quiet to strangers - I'm uncertain what the ratio is to them being shy and just observing for their own reasons. Either way, you might want to try to introduce them to strangers at a young age; though, this may or may not even make a difference.
Possies Ever feel like hanging around? Well they certainly do! If you can't find her, she's likely to be hanging upside down somewhere - somewhere that might just be out of your reach if there is such a place! Be careful, though, this might lead to her going outside and you needing some help (encouragement, bribary or real life assistance) to get her down. It's not because she doesn't want to be near you, but because she seems to like high places -- and hanging upside down from them. I've noticed that in most cases if you allow her to hang from you (even wrap herself over your shoulders at a young age), it'll be easier to get her to join you when you just can't reach her.
Canzies Their yowl is worse then their bite, believe me. They like to put on a show - be it verbal or visual --- or both. They want to do whatever it takes to make you happy! To make you love them, enjoy their company and want to be around them as much as they want to be around you! I've unfortunately noticed this breed tends to be taken advantage of. It's quite sad, but sometimes unavoidable. It's hard to tell just who will do what to such creatures! Make sure they have plenty of toys or they'll be playing with yours! And, if you have any small articles of clothing lying about, as she gets older you may find her "playing dress up" in your old clothes.
Kitsus Don't worry! They're not as mischevious as they -- oh yes, I can't lie, they kind of are. They like to get into everything. Be it natural curiousity or the desire for something else. The good thing is this helps with their intelligence; provided you help teach them along the way. Give them something to take apart and put back together as they gain control over the movement in their hands for such things - it'll keep them from taking apart things you'd rather not have broken! Don't think they're a bad breed! They're not. Remember, there's always a positive to everything! They may discover something to help you out or may be just what you need for that troublesome neigh-- I mean, to help around the house. Ahem.
Lillians The ugly duckling turned into the beautiful swan~ Sometimes, that's just the case with this breed. Not always, but more often then not. Usually, it's just duller colours or rougher skin as they hatch - but when they grow into what seems like adulthood, their skin softens and their wings are quite beautiful - as the rest of them can be as well. They're also probably the most delicate of the bunch - most sensitive in nature. Make sure you teach them not to fly too far from home at a young age, or you may never find them again! Not because they don't want to be around you, but because they don't have the best sense of direction; leading them to lose their way home...
Squilians Crazy climbers, is what I like to call them! They're always moving about! Even in their sleep they can't seem to hold still - nose twitching, ears twitching, tail swooshing... They're probably the most fun to be around! Well, if you don't mind a breed that wants your attention to amuse and entertain you -- often. Though, sometimes it may just be simple forms of entertainment - maybe a dance or a drawing (they can be quite creative, you see)... After all, they're not "pets" - more like family of some relation - like each breed. Make sure to give them plenty to play with and climb around and you may end up with quite the artistic one!
Remember! Your influence can play a role on their personality! Be it the gem-tube, something you feed them or something you play with them! Or even if it's just you! Nothing is set in stone!
Thus far, there are only six gem-tube options that your egg will remain in until it hatches.
A , This particular gem-tube has a tendency to push calmness or even "nerd or dorkiness" onto your Gem Babies. Sometimes they may come off a bit "preppy" or maybe even a "stick-in-the-mud", but that doesn't mean they are. After all, looks can be deceiving.
B, When hatched from this gem-tube these Gem Babies, tend to be very innocent and pure - or so they seem. Sometimes, they use that to their advantage and blame others for their trouble! Still, if you need some advice, if you've cared for them and loved them with all your heart, they'll be there to listen and help where they can.
C, Demonic touch may just give your Gem Babies the outer appearance of a demon or personality - or both. Maybe their clothes, maybe their hair colour - maybe the way they treat you. Maybe, they're just very mischevious - or devilish. You may have your hands full with this one - as they require a bit more attention then most to keep them tamed. Unless you wish not to tame them, of course.
D, Gothic or [i}emo these Gem Babies often get labeled. Sometimes they deny it, sometimes they wear it proudly - even if their definition of the term isn't exactly what their fellow Gem Babies think. Make sure not to leave these ones alone too often or they're behaviour could easily be mistaken for one less pleasant - they want love like any other Gem Babies.
E, Normal. This one just lets your Gem Babies hatch without any outer influences until their eyes meet yours and you begin to raise them. It's kind of an "as is" type. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, remember!
F, Want to have someone to party with? Go to the clubs or a rave with your Gem Babies? Then this is definitely the gem-tube you want to hatch them with. It's like an instant sugar rush and desire to be social - make sure to give them that or they may resent you for not doing so!
- About Gem Babies
How can I get one?
When you see them available, you simply fill out the order form, send and confirm the trade and you'll get her. There's only one of each "type" (meaning, at this point in time, there are 42 available. 6 "types" of each of the 7 breeds. It's a first come, first serve basis. At the moment, there will be no holds - unless you're extra special (meaning, I know you or you've done something to earn such a spot).
How much are they?
Currently they are only 3000gold per, as there are technically three stages they go through. At this point in time, they are all equal in price - it doesn't matter what geb-tube option you choose. This may change at some point.
How many can I own?
At the moment, I think three should be the limit. Some of them are already a handful on their own. If I release a rare one, I may hold exceptions if you already own three. This has yet to be decided on. If there are enough owners to go around... well, we'll see.
How come so-and-so got one for free!?
See the first question? That's why. Because they're special. Yes, I know - "we're all special." How about this, they're a friend of mine? Or maybe donated a great deal to my quest to bribe me?
This style looks... familiar...
Because, I admit, it was inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog style I've been "immitating" off and on for about 13 years. Yeah. 13 years. Only recently started moving past the pre-made characters and moving towards creating my own. If any of them are a pre-made character, it is purely coincidence.
Can I get a customized one? (cosplay, personalized, avatar inspired...etc)
At this point in time... no. Though, because I do adore fanart and creating variations of characters (though, I don't do it often) this may be an option. If there are enough homes for these gals to go to. If not, then I'm afraid not.
So, yeah - how long till she hatches and grows up?
After 1.5-2 weeks (it varies), your egg should hatch. Then, after that, another 1.5-2 weeks on average till she grows. If she's having complications (Read: I'm having computer issues or hosting issues..), then it may be longer. If you buy certain products, it could slow down or quicken her grown; which, at the moment, is unavailable.
I'd really like ---
Feel free to make such suggestions on what you'll like! Maybe I'll find one so that you may get that chance to get what you'd like! Opinions (suggestions) are always welcome! I can't guarantee they'll influence my decisions, but they just might!
More To Come
