Being an under 21 metalhead in North Carolina is kinda odd. The general age of the metal population is like 29+ and all look like old guys. I am the only one that is 19 among them, so I guess the age factor makes me kinda stand out.

your scene sounds really shitty.
either that or you don't hang around enough places to discover fellow youngsters (i.e. parties).

Na, its not really that, just mostly an older crowd likes metal Hell they try to hook me up with drinks and such, but since I do the driving, its a no go with me, same with the state law not allowing it lol. Its just that here in North Carolina you under estimate the religious population and the amount of rednecks here. The girls are surprisingly open-minded about tastes, so getting girls is not a problem. Just hard to find people that like real metal. Its mostly Christian Hardcore, 'alternative', and Country music here. Hell, you know that most people here need a mental exam when shows like Hawthrone Heights and Attack Attack sell out. Bands like Obituary roll on through often and get a crowd, but when ya talk to the people they will NOT be locals at all. In fact, most of the scene here in North Carolina is the whole state, not really a city thing. You talk to people and they will be from all over the place, from the mountains and the coast.

sounds like you need to dig into the underground.
though it may not interest you anyway. :/

ALready been exposed to alot of local bands. The venue usually has one-two to open for bigger bands. They had two opening for Municpal waste, for example. Most of them just use high-pitched threat signal vocals all the time with Sepultura covers thrown in. Most of them covers are from Arise and Roots Bloody Roots, just sped up abit.

sounds like you get more popular bands (which we surely don't up here, Cough was the biggest act I've seen in this town), which may have your local acts in a stagnant rut, much like I was experiencing in Virginia Beach.
but even then dudes were closer to my age and going to parties afterward.

Most of the 'after party' takes place at the Venue itself, which is just a bar that holds around 500 people. I guess I have been going to more popular shows, which I might need to stop. The Venue, Volume 11 tavern, is kinda odd. One minute they will have Behemoth and Nile there, then the next week it will be something like Psyopus, Athiest, Gigan and Misery Index playing there. Most of those smaller shows dont have any local bands opening up for them. Guess I just gotta look harder then.
