This is my first time making a request, but here goes - I'm looking for some black metal or death metal with partially-understandable vocals. I don't care if they shout, scream, or occasionally screech, but I really don't like the bands I've heard with the high-pitched feminine wailing.

That's about as articulately as I can get down my req at the moment. Thanks in advance.

does it have to be in English?

Nope, no English required.

@ Blut Aus Nord - I've heard... Yeah, you can pretty much assume I haven't heard it. I've heard a little bit of Nyktalgia, and anything else I've listened to I've forgotten, so it's safe to assume that anything goes. (Edit: I like Nyktalgia except for the vocals. I dunno, they just make me feel slamming my head into the keyboard.)

Also, thank you Reveangance. I'll check those out as soon as my computer isn't struggling to maintain basic functions.
You'd have a good time listening to:

Blut aus Nord (Memoria Vetusta I: Fathers of The Icy Age)
Bekhira (L'Elu Du Mal)
Odal (Wilde Kraft...)
Astral Aeon
Morker (Hostmakter)
Hoest
Anti
Deathspell Omega (Inquisitors of Satan)
Kriegsmaschine
Mgla
Irrwisch
Ossein (Declination)
Forest (Rus) (Like A Blaze Above The Ashes)
Kroda (Cry To Me, River...)
Thy Light
Trimonium (Blow The Horns)
Desolation Triumphalis
Cobalt (Gin)
Woe
Ad Hominem (Climax of Hatred)
The Ruins of Beverast
Horn (Naturkraft)
Furia
Sturmkaiser (Veni Vidi Vici)

Alright! Thank you all - I'm going to check all of this out. This ought to keep me busy for a while!

(On a side note, I have no idea why the hell I quoted my own post. I'm sure I thought it served a purpose at the time, but man, I really don't know what that would be.)

Looking for bands that write about the Russian Revolution, if that exists. If not, bands that just write in Russian.

Bands that write about general Russian history are acceptable too.

I'm looking for some more modern metal stuff. I've heard several bands, and have gotten several recommendations from my friend. I wanna hear some more Trash, Death, and Heavy Metal, and I'd like to hear a little melody in the songs. I know all the good stuff is from the 1980s an all, but I like hearing a more modern sound.
Bands I listen or to or have heard songs:
Atreyu (the new and old stuff of theirs I'm not too judgemental about)
Killswitch Engage
Bullet For My Valentine
The Devil Wears Prada
Trivium
Sonic Syndicate
System Of A Down (sound preference) (YES! some of their stuff is considered metal)
All That Remains (pretty good stuff)

Thanks for any help.

All but two of the bands (Sonic Syndicate and SOAD) you mentioned fall under the Metalcore category; some of the times a band under that category is considered metal, sometimes they're not.
Sonic Syndicate originally was Melodic Death Metal (according to M-A), so I'll start with them:
Carcass (Heartwork)
Eucharist (you can download both albums from their website, for free)
In Flames (Lunar Strain, The Jester Race)
Soilwork (Steelbath Suicide, The Chainheart Machine)

Now for all the Metalcore bands:
God Forbid (IV: The Constitution of Treason)
Shadows Fall (Somber Eyes to the Sky (They played Melodic Death Metal on this album), The Art of Balance, The War Within)
Silent Civilian (Rebirth of the Temple)

For the heck of it, since you like SOAD, check out Soil's Scars, re.def.ine, and True Self; also, Spineshank's Self-Destructive Pattern isn't so bad either, but don't quote me on that.

As for wanting more modern stuff:
Avenger of Blood (Complete Annihilation) [Thrash Metal]
Bloodbath (Breeding Death, Resurrection Through Carnage, Nightmares Made Flesh) [Death Metal]
The Chasm (Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph, Procession to the Infraworld, The Spell of Retribution) [Death Metal]
Exhumed (Slaughtercult) (Death Metal/Grindcore)
Gama Bomb (Citizen Brain) [Thrash Metal]
Mastery (Lethal Legacy) [Thrash Metal]
Nocturnal (Arrival of the Carnivore) [Thrash Metal]
Nunslaughter (Hell's Unholy Fire) [Death Metal]
Wolf (Black Wings, Evil Star, Ravenous) [Heavy Metal]

Thanks for the recommendations.

Maybe you've heard Empyrium
Uaral is a good one, they're folk doom from Chile but sometimes this is really depressive; Diadema Tristis from Argentina, Silent Stream of Godless Elegy and Raxa, this last one is more like ambient.

Revengeance already made a great post, but since I first got into metal because of melodeath I'll suggest a few more and hopefully in 3 years you'll be harassing Bolt Thrower daily for them to make a new album:

Dark Tranquility http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZqfH1LQEOQ

Detonation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHg9Ma5FV-g

Kalmah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1NLxoFHU4w Warning: All their songs seem to be about swamps or some s**t, yeah I don't know what the ******** either.

Umm, that's all I can remember from my melodeath days.
