3. You're about 45% right on this one; i could hardly remember most of the bands because they really didn't stand out (unoriginality is a widespread problem in all metal genres). However, if i never really cared about it in the first place, i wouldn't have bothered to seek out anything again, and much less reward monetarily the bands that I did think were original....

While it is true that originality does not imply a type of quality (be it good or bad), one can affect the other. Quality is a perceived characteristic: If I perceive i am hearing a shameless MDB clone, my judgement of quality will be affected, while a recording of i dont know.... some Hindi-inspired doom complete with sitars, even if its a 3 chord recording, in my view, it gets a lot of points!
