Memorial Day is meant to acknowledge our honored war dead, but I always like to thank people while they're around to hear it. So if there's a serviceman or servicewoman in your life, take a minute to thank them for helping defend our great nation.

Here's my shoutout to my cousin Paul and my friend Chris, both of whom brought home lasting souvenirs on their bodies, and to my neighbor Gary, who paid the ultimate price. I didn't forget, guys. emotion_bigheart

This is a shout out to my friend Ryan, who is currently serving in Afghan.
A big thank you to my husband, who served overseas during Desert Storm.
My dad, who served in the Army until he retired. He fought in WWII in Burma and India and earned 2 Purple Hearts.
My mom, who served in the Army/Air Corp as a nurse during WWII.
And all the other members of my extended family who are currently serving or have served in one branch or another.

This is for my father, who enlisted as a Navy Seabee rather than being drafted during the Vietnam War. I just wanted to tell him that no matter what the anti-war protesters called him, he's still a hero to me.

This second shout-out is to my deceased grandfather - my father's father - who joined the Army Corp of Engineers during WWII and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was happy in the military - even if he never talked about what he saw and did in France and Germany. I just wanted to let him know that I'm proud of him - flaws, quirks, and all.

Here's a rousing thanks to a good friend of my hubby's - Scott - for being a lifelong Squid (Navy), and serving all of us!

Other thanks go to:

An online pal - Dan - 'retired' Marine injured in Iraq in 2008.
Online pal - Brooks - active Air Force, currently deployed in Afghanistan.
Online pal - 'Alby' - active Air Force.
Online jerk - 'Corrin' - Army, retired 2011. (Yes, I'll even give a shout out to a jerk, since he served us.)

Thank you ALL of you! emotion_hug

Just wanted to speak out loud, cause I don't get to a lot. In my experience in the corp, the longer you have been in the more you forget who you once were. With all that's gone on I pray and hope to god to bring me back to myself. Usmc

For my great-grandfather! He fought in WW2!
I miss my grandparents: a naval mechanic, an air force officer, and an army escort. And here's praying that God keeps all of the soldiers all over the world safe.
