Keep going. Use September and/or October to edit. It's a lot easier once you let it fall into place.

I'm proud of myself. I actually sat myself down with a glass of tea, a bowl of Wheat Thins, and two containers of mints, and made myself write two thousand words. Two thousand eleven, actually. whee

Which basically means that chapter six is about halfway done.

Also: Do any of you ask your parents for help with this? I have a writing family (my mom sent in one of her plays for publication yesterday, I'm so proud of her), and my dad is a really good plot-bunny slayer. All he knows about my story is that there is a pursuer/pursuee situation, and he worked out a way for my persuer (with the superior skill set) to become slightly indebted to my pursuee. Which is important.

Yay for Dad the Plot-Bunny Slayer!

Hehe no! My mother... she only reads fantasy and criticizes basically EVERY other kind of story to death, loudly and publicly. My father thinks fiction is a waste of time. Hell, he thinks the arts are generally a waste of time... I chalk it up to life in the army or something.

I only write fantasy, but my mom writes sitcoms and my dad historical (or, if you're not Christian/Catholic/Jewish, Biblical) fiction and Sci-Fi. They get it. whee

Chapter ten!
I strike again!

rofl It rhymed.

And...ah, damn. My cheese is about to give out, and I'm not through my box of crackers yet! crying

Also, I've hit a bump in my story. I've determined the abilites, and I'm at the point where Ty is told (by O'kai-ya) about his...but I don't know how they work. I mean, both Scott's and Kitt's have been spontaneous so far; Kitt did it conciously the second time, but not the first. So I don't know how to pull it off. Right now he's trying the "mind over matter" method...maybe I'll just have him get impatient and it'll materialize itself.
Though I'm not exactly participating (learned about it a little too late) sweatdrop I like the idea of actually getting off the computer and writing. Right now I'm writing a part in the 2nd chapter that I particularly like, though in the end, it has no real bearing on the outcome whatsoever. I think it's important to have things that just give your character a sense of realism, because not everything that happens has to do with the final outcome of everything.

I have to get off and start writing. Banana paper makes it so much more interesting xp
I think my story is moving too slowly for the kind of story its going to be...

..I mean, the focus of the story is for the girl to get to this academy and basically thrust into dangerous situations all for the sake of adventure, learning, and her somewhat nuts academy headmistress...

..and I'm into the third chapter (been slow in writing it too!), with the girl angsting over whether or not she'll be able to go to the academy! I think I'm going to end up merging chapters two and three together in the end...
Backstory and buildup are always important! As long as it's sort-of interesting and relevant...

I'm on chapter 17 of mine, but then again look at my word count. domokun

What? Where?

Well, there's the offcial NaNoWriMo in November...but that's only one month. I'm hoping this will become a yearly thing on Gaia, anyway blaugh

...or are you talking about participants?

I'll be sure to do it next year, then.
Personally, I just recently saw the summer WriMos thing, so I decided to start it, but extend my deadline to September 30th. That might be cheating, but it gives me a bit more leeway, what with work and the like. 3nodding
Again, too many ideas to narrow it down to one 'NaNo' second project. Instead, I'm aiming to write either 1000 words or one piece of short fiction per day, depending on my mood.

I managed one flash fiction today, but I'd like to get in some more before I head off to work. smile

None of that, now!

I'm guilty of a massive amount of buildup...they don't even reach the damn island until chapter five. And that's where all the action is. In fact, things don't even begin to heat up until chapter fifteen. I mean, yeah, some stuff happens, but it doesn't get really involved until then.

Also guilty of a massive amount of buildup! The ACTUAL PLOT isn't going to emerge until about HALFWAY THROUGH THE WHOLE THING!!!!! I want everybody to get a veeeery good feeling of what the character's normal life is like (which is pretty insane as it is), so it's essential. One plot that I'm working on is absoluetly essential, because a certain character needs to be under a massive amount of stress, and one is supposed to tarnish the reputation of where almost all the characters work. Another plot, that starts and distinctly ends, has to show a lot about the reputation being destroyed, and one doesn't end up mattering that much because the character dies anyways, but there needs to be attachment of him to the protagonist. I have 3 main information characters, rather than the usual one, so a lot of the information she gets is conflicting, which makes it even more confusing! Sounds wild, huh? sweatdrop

Quite. My action starts quite a bit more than halfway through...I'm projecting 23 chapters total, possibly 24. So I've got to cram all the action into 8-9 chapters at the end - actually less, since the last two are past the climax.

...WOW. I just seem to keep adding pointless characters, but they're pretty interesting, so I want to leave them in. I have no idea of the chapter count, but the action starts approx. halfway through, maybe more.
