Sooooo...when someone says they are a "Celtic wiccan"...what should I say to them? *takes notes*

I generally laugh and walk away. But seriously, it's definetely an odd combination. I do not believe in mashing religious beliefs together and keeping both titles. If someone says they're eclectic with Celtic and Wiccan beliefs, I can understand that. But most people have never truly studied the Celtic beliefs...that being said, if the person saying it is 15 or under...then I go back to my "laughing and walking away".

I tried to get that info from the girl who started the thread...she was rude, so I didn't stick up for her. I even PLEADED she spell right...her excuse "i modle reely im prety n hav lots o boysfrind". -_-;

I was "Oh really...you suck." XD

Oh, you forgot the spell about how to get the man of your dreams to call you. I actually remember how to work that one, if you want an example of the stupidity. You were supposed to draw a butterfly or a bird on a sheet of paper, then write the guy's name below it. After the paper was complete, you were to say a prayer (some cheezy rendition of "Dear Goddess, please make this guy, like, totally call me!" wink and place the paper under your phone. The end.

At first I had genuine respect for Ravenwolf. Her past is nearly identical to mine, and at the time I hadn't read her books. *shudder* Now I have, and have since amended my position on her.

I honestly feel the same as you about people who say they're wiccan. I label myself "Pagan" because I don't fit into any particular sect of the Pagan religion, and don't feel the need to define myself further for complete strangers. If they want to know more, I'm more than willing to share. If not, why the ******** bother? I'm sure there are plenty of true Wiccans who follow the Rede, worship the God and Goddess and are completely true to their religion. Props to them. Unfortunately all the high schoolers in black fishnets and chains wearing upside-down pentagrams proclaiming themselves "Wiccan" while listening to Godsmack and Slipknot ******** it up for 'em.

Ugh...I had forgotten. More like..."totally wiped from my mind all recollection of that spell". What IS it with all these schmaltzy "Wiccan Spell" books that pander to desperate, angsty young females? Makes me want to vomit...

I think my big problem with the whole "I'm a Wiccan!" thing is that no one really seems to know just what they're claiming to be. There are so many people who say "I'm a Wiccan but...I don't believe in the Goddess/I don't follow the Rede/I don't observe Sabbats..." It just bothers me to no end. They're not "Wiccan". They might be Eclectic, or they might have more traditional beliefs. But they seem insistent on using Wicca as some end-all-be-all for any Pagan beliefs.
*sits bakc and eats ravioli* Mmm, food, not-very-good cartoons, and teeny bashing. The world is good.

"Bad baby! Stop defying the laws of physics!"
Love your sig, Avy...^_^ You draw it?

I think she came off that way to everyone. Instead of, oh, explaining what her beliefs were, she just got defensive and started giving information that had nothing to do with the argument at hand.

I don't understand this whole "Oh I'm native american!" thing. I'm Metis...I've gone to PowWow's and different Aboriginal meetings, and I seriously can't see the connection. Is it the polythiesm, with different Gods/Goddesses? The spirituality or the nature so heavily prevalent in the religion? I mean...it does have Pagan qualities and can be labelled Pagan [only using the very broad, generalized "Pagan" definition], but anyone who's studied the two know that the belief sets behind them are very different. [Heck, not to mention that even different tribes have different beliefs, Gods/Goddesses, mythology, etc.]

Yep, I did the sig ^_^ I'm thinking of doing a new one, but at the moment I'm kind of stressed/out of it.

Amen to that. Eclectic I can understand; I've studied Celtic forms of Paganism a bit; enough that I enjoyed it and plan to research more, and have incorperated the little I've learned into my workings, but not enough to label myself a Celtic Pagan.

What sickens me is going to the "New Age" section of bookstores now and seeing row upon row of "Wiccan Spell Books." There was even one book dedicated specifically to getting revenge on an ex boyfriend... one of the spells involved chopping a cucumber with the boyfriend's picture pinned on it and burying it in your back yard to make him infertile.

Note - kudos on the awesome sig. Wish I could draw as well as you. ^_~
i don't agree with any of it sorry.
Reincarnation seems like spiritual procrastination to me.

What is wiccan bassed on exactly?
Is it what we're taught in movies to be about want to hump satan? or osmethign to do with 4 winds.

Honestly i don't like the idea that i don't have any choices in life.
I don't think everything is free will.
But i don't belive were all just running around following destiny

*pats her back* I know how that is...but inspiration will most likely kick in soon. ^_^

lol I said "I though celtic culture was European based...how do you mix it with Hawaiian RELIGION?"

Her reply. "funny thoght it was irish(funny, I though IRELAND WAS in EUROPE) u dont now nothn boutmy relegion gramar iz fo skool." -_-;;
Look, we've established that we hate this ravenwolf person, and we hate tenny-bopper witches. So do I, but we don't need to be talking about this.

We've strayed from the REAL point, which is to make fun of stupid people.

This is a joke, by the way.

Ugh! That is exactly the type of pyschotic, female-centric male-bashing attitude that makes female Pagans look like nutcases. Especially when it flies right in the face of their stupid Rede..."An it harm none, do what ye will..unless that means casting nasty spells against your ex-boyfriend and trying to make his life a living hell, which is okay, because you're a female and therefore you count as a Goddess!"

Thanks wink I like to think my icon does a good job of portraying the sarcastic, acerbic tone I generally speak in. Just imagine Daria saying everything I type, and that's my voice.

I'd say if you look anything like your sig...Daria would crap her pants with envy. ...then she'll make fun of your parents for a solid hour. XD

Wicca is a neo-Pagan set of beliefs that was introduced by Gerald Gardner in the 50's. [He says he was inducted in to the "ancient religion of Wicca" by an elderly high Priestess of a coven....but there's no documentation supporting any evidence that Wicca as we know it existed before he started talking about it.] It teaches that there is one true Goddess who reigns over everything, and everything in the world is part of her. [So while there is a Goddess and God, they're both the same being.] It uses the Pagan sabbats and holy days, and it's fundamental law, the Rede, which states that any "harm" [it's super vague] that a person commits, that "harm" will come back to them threefold.

I think as an introduction to Paganism, it's good. It's strict on what it allows and what it's religious Dogma is, but it also dispels a lot of the misinformation about Pagans as devil-worshippers or "Satanists". I'm personally not very fond of it, however razz

Alas, I used to look like my sig, but then I shaved my head, grew out my hair to my natural color [blonde] and I don't have red eyes. *sighs* I'm on page 61 of the "Post your pic!" thread, I think.

Believe me when I say this...in every sense of the word...

You are gorgeous.

(I got scared for a second when you said you shaved your head...XD)

Thank you! ^_^

*laughs* I shaved my head...I think it was four years ago now. I had hair down past my butt, but it was completely dead from black hair-dye. [oooh I was frightening looking in high school] It's finally grown in to a length where I'm happy with it. [I had a year and a half of crappy growing-in hair that was puffy as heck xd ]
