Gaia's First Year Memory Timeline ~~ Happy Birthday, Gaia!

This is a great thread. Nicely put together and just an all-around good idea. 3nodding

My fondest memories:
- Finding the kittybomb thread and making all the new friends in there.
- The starting adding of the Mini-Shop forum and Breedable Forums, surprisingly.
- Watching the chaos that Puri Pets in the breedables caused/started.
- Being able to giftwrap (not giftrape xd ) a present and sending it to a friend. It makes giving gifts a lot more.. fun.
- Completing my first real 'quest' (for a Ducky Hat) and all the people who I barely knew at the time who helped me.

Happy Birthday Gaia, here's hoping that there are many more.

(God it's like watching a kid grow up when I think of how it was when I first started in July and now.. xd )

July 2nd: The Rise of the Machines
On the 2nd of July, a new rare was released: the Android Damage Prosthetics. And instantly there was chaos in the Exchange.

People were exclaiming over the new item ChaosKid had equipped and were wondering if it was a prank pulled by the admins in the same breath. After all, Terminator 3 had just been released in movie theaters.

ChaosKid started an auction, and the chaos became worse. People bidding ten thousand gold, twenty thousand, more (a great deal of gold back then)! And then...the prosthetics were gone. Unequipped. The bidders, fiercly engaged in a battle of gold, did not notice. But others did. And where were the prosthetics?

Why, sold to a PM bidder, of course. People were nearly rioting when they found out.

Now the android prosthetics sell for a fraction of those original bids, but perhaps they retain the memory of the chaos in the glowing red eye.


October: Running the G.E.N.
Before October, Jadonblade owned the G.E.N. I am not completely sure when he started it, and I did not know what to expect when running it. In any case, he ran out of time to run it; I had been helping with the old GEN, and so he gave the ownership to me. A new thread was put up. With the help of Ryujii, I redid the format and the GEN as we know it today began down that path that remembered its beginnings but became so much more. Perhaps it will change even further in the future.

The Donation Tree event was a bit of an insanity. After I gotten my first pair of Jolly Silppers, I donated a second time so I could get another pair that I could sell later. Instead, I ended up being among the first people who got a pair of Fairy Wings. At first, I was dubious and I checked if I had the real thing and obviously they were. I read a post about another Gaian who said that she had her pairs of Fairy Wings. She had been called a liar and I decided to step forward and confirm that you can get Fairy Wings with the Tree.

The madness started at this very moment and I had been constantly PM'd by people who asked me tons of questions. Of course, I do recall the frustration and the jealousy. Greed had a very grim showcase on the day we were supposed to celebrate generosity.

My fondest memories was my very first donation in september. It was the greatest thing opening that letter, almost as good as that warm fuzzy feeling i get when i donated! I remember the creation of Gambino, and the new shops. My very first rare after like two months sweatdrop All very good memories. *sigh* As far as a favorite, well i don't have one yet. I don't have a special super fuzzily warm memory yet, still looking for it. Well in any case, a toast, to Gaia's Birthday. *raises glass*

April:

I was one of the few who lucked out due to a glitch during the easter egg hunt. I had been selling my slippers as I found them just for the sake of being able to find another egg and open it. xd See, you could only have 1 egg or 1 set of slippers in your inventory at once, so to get more eggs, you had to sell your slippers back to the shop. It just so happened that Lanzer was working on something (I keep thinking it was the shop because I had gone there to sell my slippers and I couldn't). Anyway, it caused myself and a few others to be able to find an egg while slippers were still in our inventory. When we opened the egg, out came the other set of slippers. eek

ahh yes i remember everything that has happened on here. The good 'ol days in the Cosplay bar... that was soo fun! I also love my time in the Lanzer shrine, as well in many other places. Well Happy Birthday in advance Gaia! *hugs comp* I wonder if anybody has a birthday on the same day as Gaia... O.o

Hehehe It is great I have my own memories of Gaia... GaWD I joined back in June. *sigh* And all the things that have happened through then... Most of which I have included Gaia in. I can't believe everything that has happened on the site and such. I wish the best of luck for Gaia, and all the members that put as much care and heart into it as there should be.

Just making a thing such as this shows how much some people care about Gaia and it's future and past. That is what Gaia should be about. Hehe

I am going to post some of my most favorite memories.

July - August:

Nothing happened hahaha... yeah lol I joined the Hogsmeade Guild or such LONG ago. It is long since dead.

September:

Found the P.A.M. thread (Person Above Me) In chatterbox. I was never a spammer really but I had to get gold and I found a way. I then met Punkie Bloo in the thread, who has became one of my best friends in the entire world and yes we have met IRL.

October:

It went and came Halloween Craze was WILD... I remember staying up and trying to get the items and giving up after an hour cause I had a busy day ahead of me. In which I didn't sleep till that Sunday. Yeah not much happened with me and Gaia then. But I do remember getting my second NM Bustier on Halloween and I sold it to ladybluespyral (Dork leader) for an Oct. Letter + 1.5k in gold. Yes I remember that well.

Nov:

The New P.A.M. (Person Above Me) Thread hit 3000 pages as me as the first page. Soon after pages mysteriously vanished.

Dec:

I remember the horrid december. I spent over 24k in gold on Punkie Bloo for her presents heh. And Yeah I didn't like December nexT!?

Jan:

It was fun. I lived through it barely posting. And started the duckie quest for my friend Tereya Chan and 2 days ago I finished it. *sigh* the memories of Gaia.

There are more but I am tired and I can't think so I'll leave you with those. Hehe.

Things I remember... let's see...

I remember back in September, (when I first signed up) how things looked. Pretty much the same, no big differences... I believe there was one less sponsor ad on the front page, but other than that, it's pretty much the same. ^^;

In October, the new layout and decorations were fantastic. I remember at one point I saw a user in a ghost costume, and instantly ran to all the shops. From that moment on, through Halloween, I was a ghost. Come Halloween, once it was announced by VO how Trick or Treating worked, I joined the masses in the shops. Countless spam threads, slight lag... *sigh* I lost so many hours to Gaia that night. sweatdrop

Moving on...

Heh... Christmas morning, for a time, the Barton store was really lagging and an error or two popped up when trying to giftwrap. I made a small joke about how Ian was stressing out over having so many come in to buy 500 gold clown noses, and how he must've felt like the circus was in town. xd

I may be back with more memories as they come, but for now, I'll draw to a close with this:

In the time I've been here at Gaia, I've met so many interesting people, and had an amazing time. There have been ups and there have been downs... from item updates and php errors, to new features and lag. But by far, my most memorable moment on Gaia occurred on December 3rd, in the wee hours of morning. Feeling bored, I ventured into Chatterbox for the first time since Halloween, and clicked on a random thread. Not wanting to be a typical spammer, I struck up a conversation with the person who had started the topic. To make a long story short, by randomly wandering into her thread, I found my soulmate that night, and my life hasn't been the same since. Thank you, Gaia. heart
