Ever wanted to tell Gaia artists what to draw? Then join us this Friday at 2pm PT for a LiveStream art session. A few of us will grab a whiteboard and take some of your suggestions on what to draw in real time. Serious or funny, we’ll take our best shot. And maybe some of our non-artists will make a cameo too.
To take part, stop by this thread on Friday, we will start taking suggestions then. During the live stream we will embed the live video in this thread. So make sure to open up two tabs, one to watch the video, and the other to interact with all of us.
3:10pm - The live stream is now over, but you can check the recording below!
You didn't have to participate in the event. But you wanted to. And of your own will, you sent a valentine to the Sen and received the picture back. So don't even begin to say that you had no choice. Why would you be shocked? This isn't a children's website. By saying it's a children's website would mean children of all ages use it. The youngest person I've ever seen on here was 13. Thirteen. Thir-TEEN. Ya. That's definitely a child. Did you know that it's against TOS to even join Gaia if you're under 13?
I did not send a Valentine to the NPC, that was from another user. This is a children's website, at least it looks that way to me. A thirteen-year-old is a child in many countries and most people under the age of eighteen are also still considered to be children. I really don't understand why you bring that up and no, I'm not joking about that. Yes, I'm quite aware that anyone under thirteen is not allowed on this site.
Let's look at a certain line, where is it- ah!
"Gaia may change its eligibility criteria at any time."
There it is. Seems to me like that means they can target whoever they want. Now that your little argument about it being a children's site has been dealt with, let's move on.
Did I ever say they couldn't? No, I didn't. I believe you are taking things VASTLY out of context. Eligibility would refer to the age one is allowed to join. In this case a person would have to be at least a thirteen-year-old child to legally join the site. That there are adults on this site means that they are entertained by the same things that are targeted towards children (nothing wrong with that) or joined as children and have stuck around for whatever reasons of theirs.
The Rules and Guidlines seem to have a few words on this topic as well:
Mature material: Any material that is sexually explicit or pornographic, or depicts excessive violence or gore is not permitted. Tasteful nudity in the art forums is allowed on a case-by-case basis, but on the whole, it is a good idea to cater to a range of audiences. Keep in mind that some members may be as young as 13.
Tasteful nudity. Well, that seems a bit funny to hear, but it actually IS allowed. So there goes another one of your arguments about the adult themes. This is fun, let's look for more!
What is and isn't tasteful is up for debate. I personally find it distasteful on a site targeted at children. In this case children are people aged seventeen and under. I am well aware that the Internet is full of distasteful pictures but as this is a site meant for children why not just eliminate the nudity completely? Then we don't have people finding things distasteful on that level.
WOW it even tells you what you might find on Gaia!! You know, I really doubt you read any of this when you joined. Those quotes are from 3 different pages, all of which were written by the Gaia staff. Which means the picture is not, and should not be offensive to anyone, regardless of what age they are!
Well yes, actually I did. Thank you for assuming otherwise though. Much appreciated right along with the uncalled for sarcasm. Really I don't know why you're getting so heated. Civility in a conversation is not difficult. I find it offensive that it is displayed on a child's site. Is that wrong?
A children's site is a site which is strictly for children. Meaning that PG-13 is not allowed, for whatever reason. A well-known children's site would be Neopets, which I hope you're familiar with. The site is so strictly targeted for children, you can't even say "Damn" without getting suspended. But on Gaia, we have the choice to turn off word filters, and say "********" if we so please. All the staff asks is that you don't go overboard. And if you have to ask how much is too much, then you're obviously breaking TOS.
In the ten minutes I spent fiddling on Neopets years ago I was under the impression that it was indeed a site meant for people to play around on without having to see what many would consider vulgarity (cuss words and whatever else some people don't like). However it's not words that we're speaking of, it's pictures. I find that picture unsuitable for the younger audiences that often frequent this site.
Your level of stupidity amazes me.
You've devolved to insults. This shows that you've got nothing left to fire at me without resorting to attempting to slight my intelligence.
Not only do you know nothing of what Gaia really allows,
> Assumption I corrected above.
but you go on insulting the users AND the staff when you so blatantly and selfishly yell out one picture you find offensive.
Insulting the users? I really would like to know how I'm insulting the users over my dislike of a staff drawn picture. The staff is employed on a site with a target audience of children so they, as adults and professionals, are obliged to know what is and isn't appropriate for their target audience.
If you hate it so much, delete it. End of story. You have no say over what the staff draws.
Granted and yes I do. If a number of people find something such as the picture offensive then they have a right to state what they find offensive and how it offends them. This in turn can and does generate action to stop the offense from happening again. Not a guarantee but it does allow for voices to be heard.
Even in this thread, while they're asking for YOUR opinion, they will draw whatever they damn well please.
They have received my opinion. You are the one that took offense to it, not them. They can draw whatever they please so long as it's within the limits of what should be admitted to a child dominated site.
XD no, I'm simply stating how retarded you are. They can draw whatever they please, right? So long as it's within the limits of what should be admitted. Ya, as I said earlier, you have no choice in what they say is or isn't admit-able. The whole reason we're having this conversation is because you don't know your place. Gaia does not revolve around what you find appropriate or not. The staff found the picture appropriate, so the put it on the site. Otherwise, they wouldn't have. It's literally THAT simple. Why you don't understand that, I will never know.
You're criticizing the staff for a picture they drew FOR us. Not only does that insult the artists, but the people who actually like the drawing. They went out of their way to draw something, at least have the common courtesy to thank them for their time, even if you don't like the picture. You complaining over one picture that you, and only you, find offensive isn't going to generate any action because the Gaia staff does NOT see it as inappropriate content. And why would they? Just because one person isn't happy doesn't mean everyone else have to suffer for it.
For the last time, this is not a site for children. 13 might be considered a child in other countries, but Gaia is an American website. And in America, we get to choose what is and isn't appropriate. The staff deemed the art appropriate, so whether you like it or not, it is appropriate. Going back to what age you have to be, that practically SCREAMS out to me that teens are the targeted audience, not children.
You have no right to decide what younger people see. You might have a chance with YOUR kids, but no one elses. So you "defending" the virgin eyes of the younger folk that visit Gaia is ridiculous at best.
And my earlier assumption comes from the fact that you don't know the rules. If you did, you wouldn't be complaining. You do not decide what Gaia finds appropriate. But you know who does? The Gaia staff. Not you.
And what is or isn't tasteful nudity is not up for debate. Why? Because if the picture is a naked girl, it's distasteful. If everything important is covered, then it's tasteful. Why? Because that's how it works. Whether it's covered by skimpy tops or words, it's still covered. Is it not? It is. And because it is, the staff deemed it appropriate. No one cares about what you deem inappropriate. Am I using that word enough for you?
Whatever way you interpret the rules, they CLEARLY say that tasteful nudity is allowed. So long as everything important is covered, there's no problems. Once you understand that, we'll get along great.
Are you done? Or do you want to continue complaining like a child until you get the last word?
