We call it pust and for me the best local masks are kurents who chase away (or kill, depending on the story) Grandma Winter s spring can come to town (usually represented by Green George).

mard iGras is celebrated worldwide? I only thought it was in a few states

I don't think we celebrate Mardi gras here in Australia. We have our own kind of festivals but they are for things to do with cities like the Royal Adelaide Show or Tunarama. Both do have massive parades but I don't think it's Mardi gras related directly.
