Best stuff ever.

Well, seeing as I have nearly 300 volumes of the stuff, it's a pretty safe bet that I do indeed buy manga.

Oh, honey, don't ever pay retail price for manga! That's like highway robbery. wink

You want Dengeki Daisy? Start with GoHastings.com. They sell New & Used books, and right now they're actually running a 30% off sale on Used books (code: ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH). Their Used books are very good quality, so no worries there. They've got volume 1 up for $5.45. With the discount, that's $3.82. The other volumes are $6.61 or cheaper New. That's about 30% off when you factor in tax (shipping is free).

There's also someone selling volumes 1-7 on eBay, but that looks a little sketch. =_=

For Kamisama Kiss, unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any Used books in stock. However, $6.61 still isn't so bad. At least it's not the cover price?

$6.61 x 15 books seems like a lot--- and it is--- but that's just because you're trying to catch up. I've been buying both of these series since they started publishing. $13.22 every couple of months is a lot easier on the budget. sweatdrop

If you plan to buy a lot of manga, then it might be beneficial to get a Right Stuf membership. They run different sales each week, and they'll probably have a VIZ sale at some point. Their membership stacks with the sales, so you can end up getting at least 38% off the list price. There's no tax if you're outside Iowa, and free shipping starts at $49. Ah, but don't buy the membership unless you think you'll spend at least $120 at their website over the year (it costs $12, and you get an extra 10% off).

...as far as "do I plan to buy manga?", the answer is YES. lol I'm up to 2k volumes so far, with no sign of stopping. I like the stories and I want to support the creators, so I always buy and never read scanlations

...I have no idea what you're trying to say here. I'm sure we'd all like manga to be cheaper, which is why I pointed you towards a website that routinely sells them 30% off. However, even at 30% off, you're still fighting against the MSRP of the books. $9.99 is the retail price for most of VIZ's stuff, but they're actually on the lower end. Kodansha's books are typically $10.99, and Yen Press is anywhere from $11.99 to $18.99, depending on the format.

Overall, as long as you shop smart, they're not "freakin expensive." But, like any hobby, they do require an investment. How much depends on how many you want to buy and how patient you can be when acquiring them.
I no longer have disposable income crying I get some stuff from ebay when I can

just be glad the price has went down from the days when $15 a volume was the cheapest MSRP you'd see manga marked with, or the days when $20 per volume was closer to the average going price.

but really, these days if you shop smart you can get manga for at least 1/3 off of the MSRP new and even cheaper if you wait for special sales or secondhand deals.

xxxxThe only real planning I do is when I'm not caught up with a series and I'm waiting to get them since I don't have any money.
I always buy my manga, because I believe that scanlations are bad for the industry. I know that it can be expensive, but there are tonnes of websites that offer manga cheaper, and if you really love manga you will find a way eventually to buy it when you can.
I both buy and read them online. It's not like I don't feel bad for the industries and manga-ka, but I can't exactly buy or order 60+ volumes of a series that has been running for over 10+ years. Especially when you consider the horrible loss of the bookstores and the high price you pay for ordering online [plus shipping+handling].

I also feel irked by some of my favorites series that are translated and watered-down to suit the younger kids that read them; the online translators are far less demeaning.

And for the series that I do buy I make sure they are the ones that I sincerely want to have at hand and share with other people.[These tend to be the monthly issues, so there's less strain on my wallet. ^^;]

Of course I do, Though I started buying them late in the game compared to most, I have maybe 50 vol. or so. BUT I do have one complete manga set which is rave master, I found the last three volume omibus at borders before they closed up for good.

I was so excited to buy Fairy tail when i found out it was coming out that I keep up with the printed. >.> though I did cheat a little as read ahead bit online. I still read every copy I purchase.

I don't know, there is something about having a physical copy of Manga that I just enjoy more then reading it online. Plus it supports the people who bring it to us so in the end we get more of what we want.

In terms of the shipping costs, The Book Depository might be a website that you should try. The manga is quite cheap (or, it is for me because I am from Australia, I am not sure what American conversions would be like), and their shipping is free all over the world!
