Mmm, I dunno. It depends on how long you spend on the chibis.

If it only takes you a little while (though I doubt that's the case), then 8k seems like a reasonable price.

But if you're spending anything more than 20 minutes or so for a fullcolor and stuff (which looks more to seem the case), then I'd suggest raising the prices.

Formula for pricing stuff should be like

time spent + quality of end result + customer service.

Because if you offer good customer service, you can charge more and people won't mind as much because you're nice to them~

I'm sort of quiet, so I would probably need a thread regular to do the nice part.
x3;

Hmm. I spend maybe 2-3 hours, because unofficially, I am one of the slowest artists for simple chibis. I also color the slower yet easier way. Base colors & shadowing & highlights etc, etc.

It's also a bit of a popularity contest. People who have "popularity" can have somewhat mediocre art, and still ask and get 100k+ for a simple half shot, or a style they've perfected to be finished in 30 minutes. You have to have the right "friends", be an oldbie with a cute username, or have a style so unresistable that people are compelled to buy it.
I don't think I fall into any of these categories yet. I am rather jealous of those speedy people though...
xD

Ahh, you can't rely on a regular. They're not the ones getting paid, now, are they?
One of the most painful parts of customer service is being nice to the customer - no matter how big of an idiot they are, they're paying you, so you gotta do what they say.

If you're unusually cross, however, they'll usually cancel their order and leave you alone. Sometimes that is the ideal solution for low-paying idiots; if they're not paying a lot, then there's no point in bursting your back to please them. y'know?

if you're spending 2-3 hours, you're definitely underpriced. xD; I'd say about 15k per, because it's a nice, easy number - high enough to keep the LOL I WUNT ART people away from you, and low enough so that people won't be against tipping. :3

And that's completely right. If you do something to make you particularly notable, people would be more compelled to buy art from you - you have to make sure that you're not just a cookie-cutter copy of everyone else. -nod-

And some people still have no concept of customer service, yet they are still loved.
-sighs-

Well, I'm not rude or mean, just quiet. I often don't know what to talk about. I'm a better listener.
:3
And no, I'm not breaking my back for a lulz n00b. I've only ever rejected one person, because they PM'ed "OMG UR ART IZ SO CUTE CAN I HAV 4 600G?????!"

Hmm. Next person who asks, I'll try out the 15k pricing. Thanks. :'D

Anyway, I don't want to be cookie-cutter, but I can't find a style that says ME and not "Oh, you remid me of ______!" It's difficult, especially since I started drawing late. I know artists who boast about drawing since they were little. I started drawing in 8th grade. I have a lot of things to catch up to.

Well, those people are usually the ones with LYKOHMIGODWHOA art and can charge zillions for a sketch xDD

Well, you're talking now~ O: All you have to do is talk like this whenever people post in your shop. Like, a regular will be all HI THERE~ and you can be all HELLO GOOD MORNING HOW ARE YOU 8D
and then people will see you have a friendly atmosphere and won't be intimidated :3

          No problem <3

Well, style can be really difficult to achieve - you gotta get through the basics before you can start screwing them up to suit yourself. Like, this doesn't quite apply to chibis, but if you need a good understanding of anatomy and the like before you really start to stylize it.

But with chibis, there should be something you can do that really makes it your's - like, someone can just be like "Oh, that's 0xo's work because it has a really big head and tiny beady eyes". (0xo being an artist on dA xD; ) if you can come up with something really simple like that, then making your art recognizable shouldn't be too hard :3

[Sorry if I take awhile to answer. I'm sort of multi-tasking. :3;;;]

Oh, I know, right? I love to look through their galleries and be eye-raeped by the awesome.
x]

Hmm, I suppose I am. But I think I get boring. And people often talk about things I have to A. Google, or B. Ignore since it's so perverted or nasty. I need to find a better way to tell people that what they think is funny may not be funny to me...I'm not a prude or anything, but when people start asking what my pubic hair looks like, I'm completely and utterly flabberghasted.
D:

Oh, I know that. :'D Any artist I ask almost always [←Smexy alliteration xD] says, "I wish I had started with anatomy instead of anime, because I had to restart from the beginning, etc, etc." So I stopped where I was, stripped my room of anime books, and bought an anatomy guide. SO far, the progress is only improving my anime work. I'm still hopeless at semi-realism/realism.

I do regular un-chibi work, but I am sort of out of practice. I'm trying to find something, besides my signature, of course, that I can put in ever piece I do. Be it a certain shine or a special way of painting the hair, I will find it.
-dramatic hero pose-

Not to sound stalkerish or anything, but I noticed you are a very literate, established, and compelling role-player. Just thought I'd mention that.

In all this excitement, and though this may make me sound like an incompetent fool, I forgot to buy tickets.

I should do that.

(that's alright - I'm replying between roleplay posts and BBCode myself, so my own replies are probably pretty slow)

          Totally :'D
And then it's like "Man, I'd have to sell out my whole inventory to afford one sketch... xD"

Well, you can kind of put guidelines in your rules as to what's tolerated and what isn't. xD; Like, have a rule that says "Please keep discussions to PG-13 content - I don't want to have to go into detail about private matters blah blah". I have something against the "o wo" smiley, so in all of my threads I ask for people to avoid using it - it's worked well thus far.

Well, you gotta practice both~ a lot of anime anatomy can be applied to realism (well, I'm not entirely sure, I'm no art major), too :3

I wish you luck in finding that special something~

And thank you O: <333 If you'd ever like to start a onexone, I wouldn't be against it ;3

I know. That's the awful truth. That you'll never have enough gold unless you sell your soul to them.
xD

Huh. I don't really like that smiley either. I dunno what it is, though. I just don't.
o 3o;

A lot of anime anatomy comes from realism, but I'm not so sure it works the other way. Mainly because anime is basically realism exaggerated, I think.

You're most welcome. <3
I'm not much of a roleplayer myself, I often find that I get really repetitive, or I run out of time.
I do enjoy an easy-going roleplay once in awhile, though.

          xDDDD I like that
ART SO ******** EXPENSIVE YOU NEED TO SELL YOUR SOUL TO AFFORD IT.

it's supposed to be some kind of "lolwut" face, but it's become pretty exaggerated - a lot of people in senseless adv.lit roleplays use it for EVERYTHING. -eyeroll-

          Well, that's true. o: But the proportions are still basically the same - unless you're talking about kawaii desu let's-draw-everyone-chibi animes xD;

easy-going roleplays are the best <3 I have a few "Eh, let's just throw together some posts" roleplays with a close friend, and I couldn't enjoy myself more :3

It's great to have at least one RP where you don't have to worry about being absolutely perfect. x3
