Welcome to Gaia! ::

For all of us LOTR fans out there, any ideas for LOTR tattoos?
I have a couple but nothing really big.

A Tree of Gondor tattoo in the style of a Tree of Life back piece is my main one I want to do.

I don't have any tattoos yet, but if I was to get one that had to be LOTR related, it would probably be one of these:

All of these are different scripts of the word 'estel'.
The ones on the left are in Quenya, and the ones on the right are in Sindarin Tehta.

I think the White Tree of Gondor is a great tattoo idea! Or perhaps a silmaril or Earendil design, that would be fabulous too.

Although I know many people have the words on the One Ring tattooed I find that...worrisome...given that it is the language of Mordor and a token of one of the darkest powers in Middle-earth. Sure, it looks cool and it's well enough known as a Tolkien symbol, but I feel like getting is tattooed demonstrates an incomplete understanding of the story. It does annoy me... /rant

My own Tolkien tattoo is the phrase "beyond the confines of the world" is elvish and sindarian script. It's a phrase from the appendices to the Lord of the Rings and also the title to my undergrad thesis on Tolkien. It means a lot to me about mortality, death, and the medieval worldview. I love it.

This is what I'm thinking of getting. It's not extremely original but it pays tribute to a genius. <3

Being the Father of Fantasy, I have always wanted a tattoo dedicated to Tolkien, but also personalized. I would like my name in Elvish with a vine of ivy circling it on my hip. This may be my first tattoo (when I have the money to get some.)
Hmmm...a tatoo of the symbols on the ring around the wrist or ankle would be cool.
I think simply getting your favorite quote put into elvish would be a cool idea. :3

I actually had this done earlier this week. It's sindarian elvish - 'arda,' - the World.

I like the idea of keeping it simple, and elvish script is so beautiful.

This. Although, I was also considering getting the first two lines of Strider's Riddle (or the whole of the first stanza, if I could find a way to make it tasteful). Tolkien's monogram is definitely something I'm getting put onto my body, though. It just wouldn't be right otherwise. <3
I wanted a Tolkien-themed tattoo before the film trilogy came out.

Now though, they're a bit unoriginal. Especially Tengwar/Elvish script.
I have a huge white tree of Gondor back piece. No one recognizes it though, haha. Most people assume its a 'tree of life' motif.
Also planning on getting a Hobbit hole door, and maybe a quote or two.
LotR ink is the best ink.

Wow I'm liking these ideas. smile
And the cool people would get it, that's what matters. wink

My boyfriend said if he and I ever get married we'll have plain but engraved wedding bands. It's going to be the two rings to rule them all. >>;
